Hey girlies, long time no see!

Just thought I'd pop in to say hi and hope that all is well. I've been neglecting the site recently preparing coursework to be looked at before my final assessment in a couple of weeks. Will probably not be back again until it's all over as the panic is beginning to set in

hugs to all!

Hi everyone - have been catching up with the giggle box and seem to have missed a lot, as usual when I am away for a while.

My good news is that my final assessment for teaching was today and it's over! I was observed twice and then questioned at length - more like a grilling if you ask me! They couldn't tell me the result but apparently if it's bad news they have to give you an indication that there are serious problems. They didn't say anything and just left at the end which means it must be good!

Now I can concentrate on wedding plans! Two jobs for this week are invitations to be made and registering for gifts. Am looking forward to both!

Here's to Barb getting some well deserved sleep and hugs to anyone who is in need of them!

Your post was really interesting, Barb, it makes a lot of sense. I never really thought about it before but last week I wasn't getting much sleep and I definitely ate more!
Talking of sleep, I'm pretty tired so I think I'm going to say goodnight!

Hope all the girlies are well.

Yeah, I like popping in here too - these days it seems like I only get the chance to come on and see what I've missed!

Hope everyone is well, I'm very excited today as I get to meet my new class tomorrow, the kids I'll be teaching in September. I've heard they're a pretty nice bunch to teach overall and I haven't heard much about them which is a good sign as I'll have no preconceived ideas about them.

I teach 8 and 9 year olds. They did seem very nice on first meeting but am sure they were on their best behaviour to meet their new teacher! I noticed one who seems like he'll be a character!

I knew about the MSG in McDonalds food (although I still eat it!) but I never realised they put it in Chinese food too.

Sure is a fun age to teach, old enough that you can go into subjects in more detail and they'll understand (well, most of them!) but young enough that they are not too hard to control and they still think their teacher is cool!

Arielle - it sounds like a pretty natural reaction for someone who has called a place home and is as altruistic as you obviously are!

It's been pretty bad weather where I am today too. It's been raining all day and I was hoping to take my class out for our Olympic games practice! They're awful when they've been stuck indoors all day. I live in one of the dryest parts of the UK so we're not used to it, apparently we've had a months worth of rainfall today!

We have chosen some events from the games that we can do at school like 100m, javelin, walking race, relay (or that we can do variations on - we use foam javelins obviously!)
The children have also made up some of their own events.
We are having heats within our classes then the winners will go on to represent our class in our school Olympics. Each class is representing a different country which we've been researching and making flags for. We've also created our own warm ups and healthy meals for athletes. It's great fun and the kids love it!
It's such a shame though, we were supposed to be doing lots of practice outside this week and we've not made it out once because of the weather. It's not usually like this here in July.

Yeah, I guess it is pretty similar to color wars, but with different countries instead of colours.

You are right about the problems with obesity - we do projects around other subjects so why not PE?! A lot of people just don't see it as an important subject but it really is. We are hoping to continue something similar next summer but it obviously won't be based on the Olympics, we'll have to find a different 'hook' for it.

Your meez looks very energetic, Meg, I'm worn out just watching!

Yes, good luck with the exams. I too am glad that I don't have to sit exams anymore, although I didn't find them too bad as I have a pretty good memory for stuff like that....I just forget what I went upstairs for 5 minutes after going to get it, lol!

Hey everyone, hope all is well.

Barb, hope the packing and preparing for the move is going okay. Penny, I hope you are getting better.

I am excited as I have finished school for the summer and am now moving into my own classroom! It means going in for a few days to sort out the stuff left by the previous teachers and making the room my own but I'm looking forward to it and I'm even more excited by having my own class in it when September comes!

I have just caught up with things on here and was sorry to hear your news, Penny. As others have said before, your family will be in my thoughts, especially today - I hope you get some answers so that you all have a better idea of what is happening and what the doctors can do. It's good that he has people around him that care so much but we know that it is hard for you all.

Arielle, I hope you have a good time in New York. I'm off there in October for my honeymoon and I feel excited just thinking about going!

Barb - we'll miss you on here but good luck and hope everything goes according to plan.

Yeah it sure is coming up quick! I'm very excited, not just about the wedding but we are also in the process of buying an apartment together. We should get it at the start of September which will give us just under 2 months to get it ready to move into once we're married.

It seems like there's so much to think about and I'm not the most organised person so I'm sure I'll forget something! Plus, to top it all off I start my new job on Septembert 1st - although that's not as bad as it could be as I am still working in the same school, it's just my responsibilities that are changing. I'm having to be ultra organised over the next few weeks while I'm off work to make sure I get as much as possible done.

Lol, I sound like I'm complaining but I'm not really - I know how lucky I am. Can you have good stress? I think you can!

Thanks Angel, and welcome to the giggle box - I hope you'll stick around. As Arielle said, everyone is very friendly and good when you need to moan, get advice or have a laugh! I think we must have joined at about the same time as I've been here nearly a year, although I've not been around so much recently as I have so much to do!

Glad you had a good time in NYC, Arielle, I'm so excited to be going soon. I've never visited America at all, there are so many places I'd love to see but I think that New York is a good place to start.

Thanks for the advice CShapiro, I'm not too worried about it all really, I'm looking forward to it but it's still a lot to deal with all at once.
I guess maybe it's not stress when it's something you want to do and are looking forward to. They should invent another word for it - or maybe they have and I just don't know it   Anybody else know?

Thanks!

I have just had a breakthrough! My fiance and I have been struggling to find a first dance song as we don't have a romantic song that we'd call 'our' song. I'm a little fussy and didn't want anything too traditional or cheesy and my fiance says he doesn't mind what we have but has vetoed quite a lot of songs - he said he'd know it when he heard it! We searched through loads of songs a while ago but couldn't find that perfect song so we gave up. Either we loved the music but the words weren't quite right or the words were great but it wasn't a song we could dance to. Today I was listening to an old album that I hadn't listened to in ages and found a great song that I'd completely forgotten about. I played it to my fiance and he loved it too!

It's called Without You Here by the Goo Goo Dolls and is here if anyone is interested. I also absolutely love the little viseo they've made up on this version from loads of different films, although there's a couple there that I don't recognise. I even had goosebumps at the end with the Pirates of the Caribben scene.
Just had to share this with everyone as it's made my day!

Hi everyone. I've been on holiday for a week and it rained practically the whole time! Good old British summer. Luckily there were 20 of us together in a big house so we didn't get too bored.

Thanks Arielle, Shinny and silvermage. In answer to your questions, we are having the DJ play the song - we are only having a small party to follow the wedding so we went with a DJ rather than a band. We are going to NYC the following day - the 26th October. Very much looking forward to it but will have to look up what to expect weather wise!

I'm making notes here on what to see while in NYC. Something tells me we're going to have to go back, we'll never do all I want to in a week!
