The girly`s ......giggle box

Wow, that does seem young. I don't think I'd have been ready at 15! Not sure I was really ready at 17! I passed the test 2nd time. I've never really enjoyed driving though because although I know I'm in control of what I'm doing, you never know what other people are going to do.

Maybe this is the way to go

You are right that it is the way drinking is perceived that is the main problem with alcohol in society. I was brought up in a house with no alcohol, my mum and dad don't drink, and I just never really felt the need to either.
When I went away to university, I was seen as being really strange for not wanting to go out and get drunk. I didn't really enjoy it that much because I felt like an outsider. Even though I could still go out with them, it's no fun being sober when everyone else is getting drunk, especially when you are the only one sober enough to deal with them when they get too drunk to find their way home safely!

Yeah. It doesn't bother me any more, it seems like once you start work, going out stops being so much about drinking - often because we'll go out in the week and everyone has to be up the next day. I often think I might start having the odd drink but I still don't think I'd ever get drunk. I guess I never started because I was too worried about overdoing it and not being in control!

March 8th if I remember right? We talked quite a lot about weddings a while ago and I know Meg did say when it was but my memory isn't always the best!

I gave up the Maths part of my university degree course because I failed 2 modules and when I went to ask for help from the lecturer he just explained it all in exactly the same way as he had in the lecture but much quicker, he didn't give me any examples and made me feel like I was wasting his time. In the end he said how I obviously wasn't getting it and that he had to go and referred me to a book!
Unfortunately, I know loads of similar stories from people I know. It seems that a lot of uni lecturers are like this. They know their subjects inside out and probably have brilliant minds but that is no good if you do not know how to explain it to others. Maybe I'm wrong but we pay a lot of money to go to uni here and most of it seems to go towards the staff doing their own research!
In the end I switched to Education as it was something I could learn out of books - even for that course my lectures were pretty awful but I had other ways of getting through it.

Yeah, it was actually teachers like that who made me decide to go into teaching! If you have struggled through something it helps you to understand where pupils who have trouble are coming from and what they feel like. With a lot of bad teachers I don't think it's so much that they don't care about their pupils but that they just don't understand them. My lecturers at uni just couldn't understand why some of us had so much trouble as it all came so easily to them!

Hope everything is going well with the final wedding preparations Meg. I am getting more organised for my own now. I had my first taste of trying wedding dresses on this week and I loved it. I was really worried about the dress before I went but now I'm really excited about choosing it! I don't tend to wear dresses and wasn't sure if I'd be able to figure out what suited me but with some help from some very honest family members and a very helpful shop assistant, I now have a very good idea of what will look best!

Hi girlies, long time no see.
I feel like I've missed loads!

Less than a week to go now then, Meg - it sounds like you have everything under control and will just be able to enjoy the day. All the best for next Saturday as well as the rest of your lives together, it sounds like it's going to be great.

Oh, mine is a long way away yet, 25th October.
Just trying to sort out all the important things at the moment, am sure we'll probably forget something though as we're both a bit too laid back about it all. I keep telling people we've got ages yet!

Thanks Barb, I missed all of you too. Unfortunately it wasn't good circumstances that kept me away.
Yes, my fiance is in Wales, he's in the process of trying to move but houses just aren't selling here  - I've just been visiting him as he's going through a tough time at the moment. Still, we're both looking forward to the wedding, the main thing is being together, everything else is just a bonus!

Good to see you back, Arielle. Sounds like you had a really great trip, glad you enjoyed it. The things that went on in those places is unimaginable and I think it's good to consider what people went through rather than it all being just another bit of history we'd rather forget. And it's good you had some fun activities too!
Looking forward to the hunt!

I like it   I always wanted to dye my hair pink when I was in school but my school was very strict and we were excluded if we came in with hair any colour which they considered 'unnatural' until it was back to its normal colour. By the time I left school and could have done it, I wasn't that bothered anymore!

Sounds like you've been pretty lucky, Arielle. Hope everything continues to go well for you.

To Barb and Gypsy, it's hard for most of us to understand what it must be like to live with an illness all the time. I've always tried hard to be a thankful and positive person and you guys have made me realise even more how important it is to count my blessings. It all too often seems that the people who have plenty to be thankful for are the least appreciative, especially of the little things and take them for granted

Hi all, just popping in quickly this evening to say hi. I have an important assessment tomorrow and have to prepare. Saw this though and thought I'd share it, I knew studying was a waste of time!

Hi all!

I always feel like I'm missing out when I've been away from the giggle box for a couple of days!

Arielle - Am glad you've been enjoying your classes so far and am sure that it'll just get better from here on in. It's always good to be doing things that you really love.

Barb - sorry to hear of your inconsiderate landlord, unfortunately some people just do things without thinking how it might affect others, am sure I've probably been guilty of that at some time in my life but hope I didn't make anyone suffer like you are with this!

Have been thinking of Meg this weekend and her wedding day, which I'm sure was great, as I've been making plans for my own! Still got a way to go yet though, part of me wishes we'd planned it sooner as I don't want to wait!

Well, hope all the girlies are doing ok! Never know when I'm going to get the chance to pop in again these days.

Glad things are a little better for you Barb.

Am very envious of Shinny, off to Australia, it's somewhere I have always wanted to go, ever since I was little. One day I'm sure I'll get there!

Sounds like fun! I've always loved the movie Hook, especially the food scene!

Hey all.

Glad everything is good now Shinny, I am still jealous! Although have arranged a last minute trip myself and am off to Tenerife on Saturday for a week. Very much looking forward to leaving behind the cold, wet weather here in the UK and getting some sunshine. (Although we have had some snow here too the last couple of days and I do like the snow!) I will be taking plenty of sunscreen as I burn very easily and have not been out in the sun for months so it'll be even worse if I don't cover myself with a high factor!

Hope everyone else is well!
