The Sale

Well, I went to the town garage sale today.  It was a gorgeous day, and there was massive turnout.  Many homes had sales in their yards and some of the businesses had stalls on the streets.  I found one nice piece - an art deco narrow stand with drawers, which will work great as my bedside table, as it's tall enough and gives me the storage I need for that space.  It's solid wood with original handles, dove-tailed joints and just needs to be repainted.  Got it for $5.   Since I was mainly looking for storage type items, I didn't do as much rummaging as I might otherwise, but we had a good time.  My friend found a great lamp for a few bucks which just needs a new shade.  I'll definitely go out to check on other sales throughout the summer.  The stuff out in the county is nicer than most of what I've seen in the city yard sales, and there were some really nice antique pieces for great prices - just not items I needed.

DIY

How many handy-women do we have here?  I suspect quite a few.  :)

Today I changed the lock on my front door, and will change both the locks on the back door tomorrow.  None of the ones I had had any keys to go with them, so I couldn't exit the back way - kind of a pain since my car is out back.  Plus, I kept worryig I might accidentally lock myself out by clicking the lock on the doorknob on the front.  If I feel well enough tomorrow, I'm hoping to do some more painting.

Can't wait to get settled.

I tried to change the locks on the back door today, but for some reason the ones currently on there aren't standard size.  I'll have to borrow the drill bit to make the holes a bit bigger to fit the new locks in.  I was a little bummed as I wanted to tick something else off of my list and that was about my energy level today.

My Gran was one who was great at DIY (my Grandpa's work schedule was odd), and I lived with my grandparents for a while was I was kid.  Also, coming from a single parent house makes one have to learn how to do things for oneself.  I'm really glad I'm pretty good at basic home maintenance, as if I had to wait on a landlord or family/friends it would take forever for anything to get done.

It's raining here today.  I've taken a little break from the painting as I have had a couple migraines, and on other days I've just not been feeling well.

I was amazed at the price I got that bedside table for too - especially as it's solid wood - not press board like most new stuff.  I don't know what it was used for initially, but I think they just wanted to get rid of it.  Made my day though.

I find I can't play games before I want to sleep.  I get insomnia too, and doing anything that will stimulate my brain or make me more alert just makes sleeping that much more difficult.  Same with movies - I don't watch them when I want to go to sleep.

Sorry to hear about your knee - but wearing 3 inch heels can do that to you.  It sounds like you get "water on the knee".   My cousin used to get that, and I remember the needle they had to use on him to drain it off.  I sure don't envy you.

ICK about the spiders.   I'm ot afraid of them, but I sure don't like them in my house.  Poor little doggy - I'd be shivering too.

It's fine to post links like that.  The only types not allowed are sites that would compete with what is offered at friendvista, personal businesses (though you can add those to your profile page as long as the type of business doesn't break the forum rules) or spam.

It is interesting to see the trends in other countries. The pink McDonald's was pretty cool, and very different from anything you'd see in North America.

I hope so too Studio!  You & your hubby must be getting really excited & anxious to meet your daughter.  She may just be one of those gals who likes to make an entrance.

Hi Arielle!  Glad you had a nice visit to NYC.  Your work sounds interesting and it's nice that they are able to put your photoshop skills to use.

Ahh, the waiting must be hard, but I'm sure the girl will arrive when she's ready.  Try to rest as much as possible before she comes.

Shinny - that's a late night!  Hope you had enough fun to make your fatigue today worth it.

Gary - nice to see you.  Even when you're being crotchety, we like to see your "face".

Well, if the silence is anything to go by, studio may have had her little gal by now.    Tina's delighted to be expecting #2, and her son is hoping that Caillou's sister Rosie is who will arrive. LOL  Kids are too cute.

You had a lot on your plate, with the new house, fairly new hubby, school & work - so it's no wonder it was too much (especially with the degree you were taking).  School will always be there if you decide it's something you want to do later.  No babies on the horizon as of yet though, are there?  My Mum was able to stay home part of my growing up, and I loved it.  I don't know anyone who's regretted making that decision, and these days that often means living a simpler life...but it's well worth it.

I hope the interviews go well and you find yourself in a job you'll be comfortable in.  Sometimes a change is as good as a rest - so they say.

Sending good thoughts your way writemako, as the new week begins, and you go on your interviews.

One good thing for me - my brother installed my air conditioner today.  Thankfully it's cooled down a little, but it won't be long before the humidity has it sweltering here again.  One of the strange things about this area of Canada is the extremes in temperature.  Most people think of Canada as a wintery place, and the winters are longer, but the couple months of real summer weather are equally hot & humid.  I tolerate the cold much better than the heat, so y'all can imagine how delighted I am to have the AC finally installed.  Still, I'm hoping this summer won't be too bad.

It gets in the 100's here too though not usually for the entire summer.  It's a bit cooler & drizzly today - which is fine by me.  I'm hoping for a nice big thunderstorm and a good downpour.  I don't have a full-blown migraine, but it's always lurking these days, and a good rain may be helpful.

I completely agree about thunderstorms.  I don't know why, but they do something that seems to make me feel a little better.  It's another cool day here (ranged from mid-50's to low 70'sF), and a bit drizzly, so no migraine - YAY!  I went to the eye doctor & hair dresser, so am feeling not too bad...just tired, as I didn't sleep at all last night.

That's nice.   It's been better here too for the last few days.  I've had 2 migraine-free days!  YAY!

I'm gone this weekend, so doubt I'll be online.  Catch y'all when I return (or before I go, since it's not until Thursday. )

I have, but not recently.  It's awful but, when I'm so exhausted and feeling ill, I really don't have the get up and go to even get to my GP, never mind any other treatment.  I'll have to try something else soon because this is just miserable.  I haven't had them so bad in years - though other friends of mine who get them say they've had more this year, so I'm really thinking the weather has a lot to do with it.

I was out shopping for the weekend today and felt a migraine coming on.  I thought I was going to be sick in the store.   I got it under control, but it's not the same as being migraine free.  Those days have become precious gems to me.

Hey girls

Back from my weekend away, but taking a couple rest days.  Feels like I'm coming down with a cold or something, so I mightn't be as visible for a couple days, but I'll still check in.

Arielle, that's really nice.  No wonder you're so excited about going back to school.  After being away last year in Israel before starting uni it ought to be a treat to have your sister at the same school.

I've been around - just feeling like crap lately.  I think ice cream is my favourite...though I love it all year 'round.  For just summer I'd have to say seasonal fresh fruit - especially berries.  Better than any candy I've ever tasted.

Howdy all!

Just wanted to say hey.  It's been an exhausting week, and I'm vegging out this weekend.  It's a long weekend here, so no worries about having to make more calls or take care of things that need doing out of the house until Tuesday.  I plan to try & sleep as much as possible....YAWN!  My brain is finally getting a bit of a break, which will make sleep SO much easier.

Jannah - I haven't really watched any of the new additions as yet, so I couldn't say - but since you were a Moonlight fan, I'm sure the suggestion of True Blood is up your alley.

I was just wondering the other day if you were beginning to actually look preggers yet.   Clothes that fit (or are appropriate) definitely make a difference.
