JJ Abrams' CW pilot 'Shelter' casts Zachary Abel for lead role

Zachary Abel has been cast in the lead role for JJ Abrams and Mark Schwahn's new drama pilot Shelter.

The CW pilot follows the lives of the staff and guests of the historic New England summer resort Shelter Bay.

Abel will play Mitchell Taylor, a hopelessly romantic 23-year-old who was once his hometown's baseball hero, reports Deadline. Taylor now works at the Shelter Bay Inn at the concierge desk.

Shelter will also feature Malese Jow as the party girl Morgan.

Jow will be joined by her The Vampire Diaries co-star Trent Ford, who was previously announced to play British rock star Tyler Green in Shelter.

Abel appeared in ABC Family's Make It or Break It, a drama series about teen gymnasts who hope to make it to the Olympics.

Sara Rue joins Jimmy Fallon pilot 'Guys with Kids

Sara Rue has signed on to guest star in NBC's Jimmy Fallon comedy pilot.

The show, titled Guys With Kids, centers on three immature fathers played by Jesse Bradford, Zach Cregger and Anthony Anderson.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rue replaces the previously-cast Courtney Henggeler as an ex-wife of Bradford's character named Sheila. The character is described as a controlling divorce attorney who has shared custody of the former couple's 9-month-old baby.

Tempestt Bledsoe and Jamie-Lynn Sigler have also been cast in the Fallon-produced comedy.

The pilot is apparently in second position to the ABC comedy pilot Malibu Country, for which Rue has also signed on for a role.

Rue will star opposite Reba McEntire, who will play a Nashville woman who moves to Malibu with her rock star husband and three kids.

The 33-year-old actress currently stars as Brenda on the comedy series Rules of Engagement.

Martin Sheen to play Charlie Sheen's dad on 'Anger Management

Martin Sheen has signed on to appear on Anger Management.

Sheen will play his real-life son Charlie Sheen's father on the upcoming show, according to Access Hollywood.

"Yeah, it's very true," Charlie said of the rumour that Martin would be joining the programme.

"As the show's developed, we're discovering who my family is as I discuss them," he continued. "We're going to find out this guy does have major issues with his pop and when that character does finally show up, it will be my dad."

Charlie recently apologised for his behaviour last year, saying that he didn't "recognise parts" of himself when looking back at his public antics.

Anger Management will premiere in June with back-to-back episodes.

Kick-Ass' Christopher Mintz-Plasse cast in CBS Groupon comedy

Kick-Ass star Christopher Mintz-Plasse has been cast as the lead in new CBS comedy pilot Friend Me.

The Superbad actor will play a character named Evan, who moves to Los Angeles and begins working at Groupon with his best friend Rob (Nicholas Braun).

Friend Me, which is written by Raising Hope producer Alan Kirschenbaum and Ajay Sahgal, represents Mintz-Passe's first major TV role.

The 22-year-old is also starring alongside Braun in CBS movie Get a Job.

The project counts Bryan Cranston, Anna Kendrick, Miles Teller and Brandon T Jackson among its cast.

Mintz-Plasse has also been tipped by Pineapple Express writer Evan Goldberg to star in a sequel to the film as his Superbad character McLovin.

Cougar Town' actress Briga Heelan cast in ABC pilot 'Counter Culture

Cougar Town's Briga Heelan has landed a role in a new ABC comedy pilot.

The actress - who appears in a recurring role as Grayson's old flame Holly on Cougar Town - has signed up for a series regular role on Counter Culture, TVLine reports.

Heelan is a relative newcomer to series television, with her previous credits including a guest appearance in short-lived ABC comedy Man Up.

Counter Culture is a multi-camera show focusing on three sisters - played by Margo Martindale (Justified), Delta Burke (What Women Want) and Reno 911's Kerri Kenney - who run a family diner in West Texas.

Heelan has been tipped to play the daughter-in-law of Martindale's character on the programme.

Doris Roberts was recently cast in Counter Culture as Aunt Lee, described as a Southern belle who looks after the diner's register.

Bent' actor David Walton joins JoAnna Garcia CBS comedy pilot

Bent actor David Walton has signed up to star in a new CBS comedy pilot.

The currently untitled series from Greg Malins and Greg Berlanti will star Walton as Nick, who realises after a health scare that he is in love with his best friend Wendy (JoAnna Garcia).

David Walton is currently listed as a guest star in the project as it is in second position to NBC's current sitcom Bent, in which he currently stars opposite Amanda Peet.

However, Bent is unlikely to return for a second season after its initial run of six episodes, meaning he would be able to be upped to a main star, according to Deadline.

Bryan Greenberg had originally signed up for the main role of Nick, but reportedly exited production after yesterday's (April 4) script reading.

The project has been known as Oh F**k It's You but doesn't currently have an official title.

Heroes actor Greg Grunberg recently signed up to star as Wendy's brother Charlie in the multi-camera comedy.

The project is being developed by Friends, How I Met Your Mother and Will & Grace producer Malins alongside Dawson's Creek, Everwood, Eli Stone and Brothers & Sisters alum Berlanti.

Ethan Suplee, John Amos join Martin Lawrence CBS comedy pilot

Ethan Suplee and John Amos have signed up to star in an upcoming CBS comedy pilot.

The currently-untitled pilot stars Martin Lawrence as a widowed father of two teenagers named Ty, who embarks on a police career.

My Name is Earl actor Suplee will play Ty's "earnest" new police partner, while Die Hard 2 star Amos will appear as Captain Lorenzo, Ty's commanding officer, reports Deadline.

Child actress Sydney Park has also joined the cast as Kim, Ty's 16-year-old daughter.

Scary Movie actress Regina Hall signed up for the pilot yesterday as Ty's fellow officer Lisa.

The project will be directed by former Wonder Years actor Fred Savage.
