Deadwood' star Powers Boothe joins ABC's 'Nashville



Powers Boothe has joined the cast of ABC pilot Nashville.

The drama project - written by Thelma & Louise scribe Callie Khouri - will focus on the eponymous city's music scene.

Boothe will play a character named Lamar Hampton, according to Deadline.

A powerful figure in Nashville, Hampton disapproves of his daughter Rayna's country music career.

The actor's past television credits include HBO drama Deadwood, the sixth season of Fox's 24 and forthcoming mini-series Hatfields & McCoys.

The Hour actor Sam Palladio and General Hospital actor Jonathan Jackson have also won roles in the Nashville pilot. RJ Cutler will direct.

Other drama pilots under consideration at ABC include a remake of Dutch series Penoza, Marc Cherry's Devious Maids and Last Resort from The Shield creator Shawn Ryan.

Martin Lawrence to star as widowed father in new CBS comedy pilot



CBS has approved a new comedy pilot starring Martin Lawrence.

The Big Momma actor will play a widowed father of two teenagers, reports Deadline. After Lawrence's character loses his construction job, he pursues a career in the police force.

The untitled pilot is written by $#*! My Dad Says producers Mike Lisbe and Nate Reger, who are also serving as executive producers in the show along with Lawrence's managers.

CBS could also have another film star join the network, as Dennis Quaid is rumoured to be featuring in the drama pilot Ralph Lamb.

Additionally, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion actress Mira Sorvino is in talks to star in another CBS drama pilot called Trooper.

Earlier this week, Ryan Phillippe left his CBS drama pilot after having doubts about committing to a network schedule.

Doris Roberts joins new ABC comedy 'Counter Culture'



Doris Roberts will star in a new ABC comedy pilot called Counter Culture.

The multi-camera comedy will be Roberts's first role as a full-time series regular since starring on Everybody Loves Raymond.

Deadline reports that the show will focus on three aging sisters in West Texas who run a family diner together.

Roberts has signed on to play Aunt Lee, a Southern belle who handles the register at the diner.

Counter Culture has been written and produced by Stephnie Weir, actress and former writer for MADtv.

Doris Roberts recently reunited with her Raymond co-star Patricia Heaton on The Middle, where she did a short guest arc.

She recently dismissed reports that she was feuding with fellow actress Betty White.

Emilie De Ravin joins ABC drama 'Americana'



Emilie De Ravin has signed on to star in ABC's new drama pilot Americana.

De Ravin will play Francesca, the daughter and head of events in a fashion family empire, Entertainment Weekly reports.

Anthony LaPaglia will play the patriarch of the family, Robert Soulter, whose career is in jeopardy when a younger designer arrives on the scene.

Natalie Mendoza and Ken Olin have also been cast in the pilot, which is contending for a slot in ABC's fall lineup.

De Ravin is known for her roles in Lost and most recently the Robert Pattinson romantic drama Remember Me.

She also has a recurring role on the ABC fairytale drama Once Upon a Time, on which she plays a real-world version of Belle from Beauty and the Beast.

Ethan Peck joins 'Hunger Games' style pilot 'The Selection



Ethan Peck has been chosen to star in a new CW pilot called The Selection.

The 25-year-old will be playing a prince in a futuristic drama that is similar in tone to The Hunger Games, Deadline reports.

Peck, who is the grandson of actor Gregory Peck, recently took part in a short arc on another CW show, Gossip Girl, and he was also the lead on ABC Family's 10 Things I Hate About You.

The new show is based on an upcoming book series by author Kiera Cass, set 300 years in the future. It's about a poor girl named America Singer, chosen by a special lottery to compete to marry a prince of a war-torn country.

Aimee Teegarden has signed on to play the romantic lead opposite Peck.

The Selection is one of many new teen-friendly pilots the CW has commissioned for their fall schedule, another being their reimagining of Beauty and the Beast, starring Kristin Kreuk.

The Hunger Games, with which the new pilot shares similarities, opens in cinemas in the US and the UK on March 23.

Robert Patrick joins ABC drama pilot 'Last Resort'



Robert Patrick has joined the cast of ABC drama pilot Last Resort.

The project, from The Shield creator Shawn Ryan, follows the crew of a nuclear submarine who become fugitives after refusing to fire their missiles.

Taking refuge on a small island, the crew - including second-in-command Sam Kendal (Scott Speedman) - establish themselves as the world's smallest nuclear nation.

Ryan wrote on his Twitter account: "Scott Speedman greets the newest cast member of Last Resort..."

The writer then linked to a picture of Speedman with Terminator 2 star Patrick.

Patrick previously worked with Ryan on CBS drama The Unit from 2006 to 2009 and also starred on The X-Files between 2000 and 2002.

His film roles include 1998's The Faculty, 2001's Spy Kids and the forthcoming The Gangster Squad.

Other stars confirmed to appear in the Last Resort pilot include Dollhouse's Dichen Lachman, Men of a Certain Age star Andre Braugher and The O.C.'s Autumn Reeser.

Tracy Spiradakos joins NBC 'Revolution' pilot



Tracy Spiradakos has signed up for a role in NBC's pilot Revolution.

The drama, which has been described as an "epic adventure thriller", focuses on a group of characters trying to survive in a world where every type of energy has stopped existing.

Spiradakos has now joined the cast of the project, TV Line says.

She is expected to play a warrior in the show.

Spiradakos has previously had guest roles in shows such as Being Human, Hellcats and Psych.

Revolution is being produced by Fringe, Alias and Lost creator JJ Abrams, while Supernatural scribe Eric Kripke is writing the script.

Reports also recently claimed that Jon Favreau has signed up to direct the Revolution pilot.

Elaine Hendrix joins ABC's 'American Judy' pilot



Elaine Hendrix has signed up for a role in ABC's pilot American Judy.

The comedy stars Arrested Development's Judy Greer as a city girl who struggles to deal with living in the suburbs.

Hendrix has now joined the pilot's cast, TV Line says.

She will play the town sheriff, who also happens to be the ex-wife of Greer's husband.

Hendrix has appeared in shows such as 90210 and Joan Of Arcadia, while her guest roles include parts in Rizzoli & Isles, Privileged, The Mentalist and Castle.

Other comedy pilots currently in the works at ABC include Doris Roberts vehicle Counter Culture, a show from Reba McEntire, and a remake of the British series Only Fools and Horses.

Janet Montgomery lands lead role in 'Baby Big Shot' CBS pilot



Janet Montgomery has joined the cast of CBS's pilot Baby Big Shot.

The drama focuses on a working class woman who has to compete with her colleagues at a top law firm.

Montgomery has now landed the lead role of Martina, Deadline reports.

The British actress previously starred in Human Target and Entourage and also appeared in the movie Black Swan.

News of her casting in Baby Big Shot comes after Toni Trucks signed up to play Martina's friend and secretary.

Covert Affairs and Greek producer Dana Calvo is writing the Baby Big Shot script, while The West Wing producer Kevin Falls has signed up as showrunner.

Elyes Gabel joins CBS pilot 'Widow Detective'



Elyes Gabel has landed a role in CBS's pilot Widow Detective.

The drama focuses on Denny, a skilled detective who loses three partners in the line of duty and begins looking after the families they left behind.

Gabel has now joined the cast of the project, Deadline reports.

He will play a new detective and Denny's new partner. Gabel's character also happens to be the son of one of the widows on the show.

Gabel has previously appeared in British shows such as Dead Set, Waterloo Road, Identity and Psychoville. He also had a recurring role as Rakharo in Game of Thrones.

Widow Detective is being produced by CSI's Carol Mendelsohn.

Other drama pilots currently in the works at CBS include legal show Baby Big Shot, the Jerry-Bruckheimer produced Trooper and cop drama Golden Boy, which was due to star Ryan Phillippe until he decided to leave the project.

The Hunger Games star Dayo Okeniyi has landed a role in ABC's pilot Prairie Dogs.

The comedy focuses on Neil, a cubicle worker who has his identity stolen.

When Neil discovers that the criminal involved has a much more fulfilling life, he asks the thief to help him improve his prospects.

Okeniyi has now signed up to play one of Neil's co-workers, Deadline reports.

His character, an African immigrant, is described as happy and "earnest".

Kal Penn has already signed up for the lead role of Neil in Prairie Dogs, while Michaela Watkins will play another of Neil's colleagues.

The project comes from Jackie Filgo and Jeff Filgo, who previously worked on That 70s Show and The New Adventures of Old Christine.

Graham Rogers, Anna Lise Phillips join NBC's 'Revolution' pilot



Graham Rogers and Anna Lise Phillips have landed roles in NBC's pilot Revolution.

The drama follows a group of survivors struggling to live in a world where every type of energy has ceased to exist.

Rogers has now signed up to play Danny Matheson in the project, Deadline says.

Danny is described as a "cunning hunter" but he is also thought to have a good heart.

Meanwhile, Phillips has signed up to play a doctor in the drama.

Rogers has previously guest starred in an episode of Memphis Beat and will appear in Chris Colfer's upcoming movie Struck By Lightning, while Phillips appeared in the Australian soap Home and Away and recently had a guest spot in Terra Nova.

Tracy Spiradakos has also signed up for a role in Revolution, which is being developed by Lost creator JJ Abrams and Supernatural writer Eric Kripke.

Meanwhile, Jon Favreau has reportedly signed up to direct the pilot.

Julian Morris joins Fox pilot 'Guilty'



Julian Morris has joined the cast of Fox's pilot Guilty.

The drama focuses on an intelligent but unethical lawyer called Billy Remz who is stripped of his legal license after being falsely convicted of fraud.

Billy ends up using his unusual methods to solve the cases he's been banned from investigating and to get revenge on the people who set him up.

Morris has now landed a role in the project, Deadline reports.

He will play a keen young lawyer who is impressed by Billy.

Morris has previously starred as Wren Kim in Pretty Little Liars and has also had roles in shows like ER, 24 and ABC's short-lived show My Generation.

Guilty is being developed by Brothers & Sisters and Eli Stone producers Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim.

Downton Abbey' Zoe Boyle joins NBC's 'Bad Girls' pilot



Zoe Boyle has signed up for a role in NBC's pilot Bad Girls.

The drama, a remake of the British series of the same name, focuses on a group of women in prison.

Boyle has now joined the cast, Deadline says.

She will play a single mother who begins working at the prison as a nurse.

Meanwhile, Rick Gonzalez will star in the pilot as a former gang member who now works as a correctional officer at the prison. He is also expected to be the object of attraction for the prisoners.

Boyle previously played Trinity in Sons of Anarchy and appeared in the second season of Downton Abbey as Lavinia, while Gonzalez starred as Ben in Reaper.

News of their casting comes after Friday Night Lights actress Jurnee Smollett joined the show as a rapper who is caught by the DEA.

Bad Girls will be produced by John Wells, who previously worked on the remake of British series Shameless. His other credits include Southland, ER and The West Wing.

Beauty & the Beast' pilot adds Nicole Gale Anderson, Nina Lisandrello



The CW's Beauty And The Beast pilot has cast two more stars.

Nicole Gale Anderson and Nina Lisandrello have both signed up for the project, according to Deadline.

The pilot, a loose remake of the '80s CBS drama, will focus on the relationship between NYPD detective Catherine (Kristin Kreuk) and Vincent Koslow, the survivor of a botched military experiment.

Anderson will play Catherine's younger sister. The Make It or Break It actress has recently appeared in episodes of Ringer and Happy Endings.

Lisandrello - whose past credits include episodes of Law & Order and Nurse Jackie - will play Catherine's Homicide Squad partner Tess.

Life Unexpected's Austin Basis will also star in Beauty And The Beast as Vincent's friend JT.

Meanwhile, ABC is developing its own pilot based on Beauty And The Beast starring singer-turned-actor Darius Campbell and former Home and Away actor Chris Egan.

Runaway Jury's Gary Fleder is involved in both projects, directing the CW pilot and executive producing the ABC version.

Martin Landau joins 'Independence Day' director's ABC sci-fi pilot



Martin Landau has joined a new ABC drama pilot from Independence Day's Roland Emmerich.

The project focuses on Carter (Max Thieriot), a science student who learns that he is the chosen one to destroy the forces of evil.

North by Northwest star Landau will play blind, German ex-soldier Mr Armin, according to Deadline.

The executor of Carter's father's estate, Armin becomes one of the young man's only true friends.

80-year-old Landau's best-known television parts include the original Mission: Impossible series and sci-fi drama Space: 1999.

His recent roles include guest stints on Entourage and Without A Trace, while 2001's The Majestic and 1994's Ed Wood are among his film credits.

Emmerich will direct and also co-wrote his new pilot with 2012 and 10,000 BC collaborator Harald Kloser.

Other drama pilots picked up by ABC include family soap Americana, Last Resort from The Shield creator Shawn Ryan and a Beauty and the Beast update starring singer-turned-actor Darius Campbell.

Dustin Ybarra cast as Rodney in US 'Only Fools and Horses' remake



Dustin Ybarra has been cast as Rodney in the US version of Only Fools and Horses.

The ABC comedy show, which is based on the format of the British sitcom first launched in 1981, will follow brothers Del Boy and Rodney and their ageing grandfather as they devise get-rich-quick schemes in their quest to become millionaires.

According to Deadline, Ybarra has been offered the part and will now work alongside writers Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley and executive producer Jeff Golenberg.

His previous roles include We Bought a Zoo and Balls to the Wall.

It was recently reported that John Leguizamo will take the role of Del Boy in Only Fools and Horses.

Leguizamo is best known for starring in films such as Carlito's Way, Moulin Rouge and Romeo and Juliet, and has also had roles in The Kill Point and ER on television.

Sir David Jason, who played Del Boy in the UK version of Only Fools and Horses, recently suggested that the remake will struggle, arguing that the show's concept won't "travel across the pond".
