Oz' star Lee Tergesen joins ABC's 'Penoza' pilot



Lee Tergesen has joined ABC drama pilot Penoza.

The project - based on a Dutch series - will focus on the widow of an assassinated crook who adopts her late husband's criminal ways.

Tergesen has been cast as a character named Steven, according to TVLine.

In the original show, created by Pieter Bart Korthuis, Steven (Marcel Hensema) is a foot soldier for drug runner Irwan (Fedja van Huet).

Tergesen previously appeared on HBO's Oz and Lifetime's Army Wives.

He has also featured in episodes of House, Criminal Minds and Castle, and has filmed a recurring role on ABC drama The River.

Penoza is being adapted for US television by Twilight writer Melissa Rosenberg.

Other drama pilots picked up by ABC include a Beauty and the Beast update, Marc Cherry's Devious Maids and Last Resort from The Shield creator Shawn Ryan.

American Pie' star Mena Suvari joins 'Community' writer's NBC pilot



Mena Suvari has joined a new NBC comedy pilot from Community writer Hilary Winston.

The untitled project will focus on Agnes, a shy chemist who teams up with her co-workers to get revenge on her ex-fiancé.

American Pie star Suvari will play Agnes's hard-partying colleague, according to Deadline.

The actress is best known for appearing in such films as 1999's American Beauty and 2005's Domino and will reprise her American Pie role in the forthcoming American Reunion.

Her past television credits include recurring roles on Six Feet Under and American Horror Story.

Kyle Howard, who recently appeared on USA's Royal Pains, will appear opposite Suvari in the NBC pilot.

He will play another chemist who was formerly a high school football player.

Other comedy projects in the works at NBC include Roseanne Barr's Downwardly Mobile, an untitled sitcom produced by Jimmy Fallon and a remake of UK series Friday Night Dinner starring Allison Janney and Tony Shalhoub.

True Blood' star Michael Raymond-James joins NBC's 'Midnight Sun'



Michael Raymond-James has joined NBC drama pilot Midnight Sun.

The project - based on Israeli series Pillars of Smoke - will follow an FBI investigation into the disappearance of a cult.

True Blood actor Raymond-James will play an Alaskan lawman who joins the search, according to Deadline.

His recent credits include short-lived FX series Terriers and a guest role on AMC's The Walking Dead.

Titus Welliver will also appear in the Midnight Sun pilot, written by The Event's Lisa Zwerling.

The Lost and Good Wife star will play the leader of the vanished cult.

Other drama pilots picked up by NBC include Chicago Fire from Law & Order creator Dick Wolf, Western-themed The Frontier and a remake of UK series Bad Girls.

Nashville' pilot adds 'General Hospital' star Jonathan Jackson



Jonathan Jackson has joined ABC's musical pilot Nashville.

The actor - who has appeared on ABC soap General Hospital since 1993 - will play bad boy musician Avery, according to Deadline.

Nashville will focus on the eponymous city's music scene, with Jackson's character described as an "aspiring songwriter".

Jackson previously played Kyle Reese on Fox drama Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and also appeared in 2002 Al Pacino film Insomnia.

The Nashville pilot has been written by Thelma & Louise scribe Callie Khouri and will be directed by RJ Cutler.

Other drama pilots under consideration at ABC include Marc Cherry's Devious Maids, Last Resort from The Shield creator Shawn Ryan and a remake of Dutch series Penoza.

Rebecca Wisocky joins 'Devious Maids' pilot



Rebecca Wisocky has signed up to appear in ABC's pilot Devious Maids.

The drama, based on a Mexican series, focuses on a group of four maids working in Beverly Hills and is being developed by Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry.

Ana Ortiz has already signed up to play Marisol, a woman determined to investigate after her son was convicted of murder.

Wisocky has now joined the cast as Evelyn, the unhappily married owner of the house where the murder took place, Deadline reports.

Marisol begins working for Evelyn, who is described as self-obsessed and mean, in an attempt to discover more about the killing.

Wisocky recently appeared in American Horror Story. Her previous credits include The Mentalist and 90210.

Heroes star Dania Ramirez has also signed up for a role in Devious Maids.

Rachael Harris signs up for CBS comedy pilot



Rachael Harris has landed a role in a CBS pilot.

The comedy, which is being produced by husband and wife Ben Falcone and Melissa McCarthy, focuses on a man who ends up living with his parents again because of the tough economic climate.

Falcone will play the lead role and Harris has now also joined the cast, Deadline says.

She is expected to play a mother of three and the sister of Falcone's character.

Harris recently signed up for a guest role in New Girl and has previously starred in shows such as Notes From The Underbelly and Reno 911!

Her movie credits include The Hangover and For Your Consideration.

Other CBS comedy pilots currently in the works include friendship sitcom Partners, a project starring Greg Grunberg and JoAnna Garcia, and a show from Louis CK which features Ashley Tisdale.

James Carpinello, Jesse Lee Soffer join Fox medical drama pilot



James Carpinello and Jesse Lee Soffer have landed roles in a Fox pilot.

The medical drama, which does not yet have a title, focuses on a female doctor working for the Chicago mob.

Carpinello has now joined the cast as a member of the Southside Outfit, Deadline says.

Meanwhile, Soffer will play the lead character's brother.

Carpinello previously had an arc on The Good Wife and has guest starred on shows such as Body of Proof, Law & Order: SVU and Person of Interest, while Soffer is possibly best known for his role as Will Munson on As The World Turns.

The Fox pilot comes from Drop Dead Diva producers Josh Berman and Rob Wright.

Donald Sutherland comedy Living Loaded, sitcom Like Father and Ali Larter CIA drama The Asset are among the other pilots currently being developed at Fox.

Friday Night Lights' Aimee Teegarden for The CW's 'The Selection



Aimee Teegarden has signed up to star in The CW's upcoming pilot The Selection.

The former Friday Night Lights star will play the lead role in the programme, based on the forthcoming series of books by Kiera Cass, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The pilot - which is somewhat similar to The Hunger Games - is set in a war-torn future and follows a young woman who is chosen by lottery to compete for the role of queen.

Written by The Vampire Diaries duo Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain, it is described as "an epic romance set 300 years in the future".

Teegarden starred for five seasons in Friday Night Lights, while she also appeared in Scream 4 and Prom.

The CW has also picked up a new pilot project from JJ Abrams titled Shelter.

Mira Sorvino to join CBS drama pilot 'Trooper'?



Mira Sorvino is in talks to join CBS drama pilot Trooper.

The project - from Jerry Bruckheimer - will focus on a mother who becomes a New York State Trooper.

Mimic star Sorvino is nearing a deal to play the lead role, according to TVLine.

The actress won an Academy Award for her role in 1995's Mighty Aphrodite and also starred opposite Lisa Kudrow in 1997 comedy Romy and Michele's High School Reunion.

Her past television credits include guest roles on House and Will & Grace.

Heroes writer Aron Eli Coleite has penned the Trooper pilot. He will also executive produce alongside Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and Anne Reed,

Other drama pilots picked up by CBS include a '60s-set period drama starring Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis, contemporary Sherlock Holmes adaptation Elementary and an untitled cop drama, which recently lost its star Ryan Phillippe.

Abby Elliott to leave 'Saturday Night Live' for Fox comedy pilot?



Saturday Night Live star Abby Elliott has won the lead role on Fox pilot Ben Fox Is My Manny.

The comedy will focus on an uptight single mother (Elliott) and her laid-back brother who move in together to raise a child (Maggie Jones).

If Ben Fox is picked up to series, Elliott will be forced to leave SNL, according to Deadline.

The 24-year-old actress and comedian joined the NBC sketch show in 2008 and is known for impersonating the likes of Angelina Jolie, Khloe Kardashian and Zooey Deschanel.

She also appeared opposite Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher in the 2011 film comedy No Strings Attached.

Ben Fox Is My Manny has been scripted by Couples Retreat writer Dana Fox.

Other comedy pilots in the works at Fox include Living Loaded starring Donald Sutherland, Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence's Like Father with Eureka's Colin Ferguson, and the basketball comedy Rebounding.

Scott Foley joins Fox comedy 'The Goodwin Games'



Scott Foley has joined the cast of Fox comedy pilot The Goodwin Games.

The project - from How I Met Your Mother's Carter Bays, Craig Thomas and Chris Harris - will focus on three estranged siblings who must reconcile to inherit their late father's money.

Foley and the previously-cast Becki Newton will play two of the children, according to TVLine.

The actor has previously appeared on Scrubs, The Unit, Cougar Town and Grey's Anatomy.

He is currently filming the fifth season of HBO drama True Blood, in which he plays Patrick Devins.

Foley was previously developing hour-long drama The Escape Artist with CBS, but the project was not picked up to pilot.

Comedy pilots in development at Fox include Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence's Like Father with Eureka's Colin Ferguson, Ben Fox Is My Manny starring SNL's Abby Elliott and Living Loaded featuring Donald Sutherland.

Judy Reyes, Roseyln Sanchez board 'Devious Maids' pilot



Judy Reyes and Roselyn Sanchez are the latest stars to land lead roles in ABC's pilot Devious Maids.

The drama, which is being developed by Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry, is based on a Mexican series and focuses on four maids working in Beverly Hills.

Reyes has now joined the cast as Zoila, Deadline reports.

Zoila, who is described as funny and smart, works alongside her teenage daughter Valentina.

Deadline also says that Sanchez has landed the fourth lead role and will play Carmen, who dreams of becoming a singer.

Reyes is possibly best known for her role as Carla in Scrubs, while Sanchez previously played Elena Delgado in Without A Trace.

Devious Maids has also cast Angelique Cabral, who appeared in the movie Friends With Benefits and has had guest roles in shows like Happy Endings, Two and a Half Men and Mad Love.

She will play Carmen's boss, a self-obsessed popstar who is always on tour.

Ugly Betty's Ana Ortiz and Heroes actress Dania Ramirez have already signed up for the other lead roles in Devious Maids, while Rebecca Wisocky recently landed a part as the boss of Ortiz's character Marisol.

Cougar Town' star Collette Wolfe joins NBC pilot 'Next Caller Please'



Collette Wolfe will play the lead role in NBC pilot Next Caller Please.

The Young Adult star will play a radio host who lands her dream job in New York, according to TVLine.

However, Wolfe's character becomes disillusioned when she meets her hard-drinking, sexist co-host.

The actress previously starred on Cougar Town and has also appeared in episodes of Eastbound & Down and How I Met Your Mother.

Weeds' Stephen Falk will executive produce the Next Caller Please pilot, with My Name Is Earl's Marc Buckland hired to direct.

NBC's other comedy pilots include a project from Community writer Hilary Winston starring Mena Suvari, Roseanne Barr's Downwardly Mobile and a remake of UK series Friday Night Dinner.

Rachel Dratch, Danny Comden join NBC's 'Lady Friends



Rachel Dratch has joined NBC comedy pilot Lady Friends.

The project - from The New Adventures of Old Christine's Kari Lizer - will focus on two women who have remained lifelong friends, despite their different lifestyles.

While Jen (Dratch) has left behind a broken marriage and resentful parents, her best friend Nicole (Andrea Anders) has a faithful husband and loving family.

Danny Comden will also star as Jen's wild chef ex-husband, according to TV Guide.

Dratch featured regularly on Saturday Night Live from 1999 to 2006 and has also appeared on 30 Rock, while Comden starred in 1998 horror film Urban Legend.

Lizer will write and executive produce the Lady Friends pilot, with 2 Broke Girls' Scott Ellis directing.

NBC's other comedy pilots in contention for the 2012-13 television season include Save Me starring Anne Heche, Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy's The New Normal and Next Caller Please with Cougar Town's Collette Wolfe.

Aaron Sorkin's 'The Newsroom' adds 'Expendables' star Terry Crews



Terry Crews has won a role on Aaron Sorkin's new HBO drama The Newsroom.

The series, which stars Jeff Daniels, Dev Patel, Emily Mortimer and Olivia Munn, focuses on a team working on a broadcast news programme.

The Expendables star Crews will play Lonny, the bodyguard of news anchor Will McAvoy (Daniels), according to Deadline.

Crews currently stars in TBS sitcom Are We There Yet? and will next be seen in action sequel The Expendables 2.

Other stars confirmed for The Newsroom include Alison Pill, John Gallagher Jr, Thomas Sadoski and Sam Waterston.

The series will premiere on HBO later this year.

Jay Hernandez has joined the cast of CBS's pilot Trooper.

The drama, which is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, focuses on a mother called KJ who becomes a New York state trooper.

Hernandez has now landed the male lead in the project, Deadline says.

He is expected to play KJ's new partner, who moves to New York from Miami following the death of his wife.

Hernandez has previously appeared in Hang Time and Six Degrees, while his movie credits include Friday Night Lights, Hostel and World Trade Centre.

Mira Sorvino is reportedly in talks to take on the lead role of KJ in Trooper.

Brothers & Sisters' Dave Annable joins ABC's '666 Park Avenue' pilot



Dave Annable has landed a role in ABC's pilot 666 Park Avenue.

The supernatural drama is based on a series of books by Gabriella Pierce.

It focuses on a young couple who move into one of the oldest apartment buildings in New York City, only to start facing a number of spooky experiences.

Annable has now signed up to play the husband, TV Line reports.

He previously starred as Justin in Brothers & Sisters and has also appeared in shows like Reunion and Third Watch.

News of Annable's casting comes shortly after Lost star Terry O'Quinn signed up to play the owner of the haunted building.

Other projects currently in the works at ABC include soap Devious Maids, a submarine drama from the creator of The Shield, and fairytale show Beauty and the Beast.

Damages' actress Lily Tomlin joins 'Malibu Country' pilot



Lily Tomlin has joined the cast of ABC pilot Malibu Country.

The comedy will focus on a recently divorced mother (Reba McEntire) who must raise her children while working to reignite her singing career.

Tomlin will play Shirley, the mother of McEntire's Reba Gallagher, according to Deadline.

Her recent television credits include roles on Desperate Housewives, Damages and Lisa Kudrow's Web Therapy.

Malibu Country is being penned by Kevin Abbott, who previously worked with McEntire on her sitcom Reba. His past work includes Golden Girls, Roseanne and My Name Is Earl.

McEntire will also executive produce the pilot, with Mindy Schultheis, Michael Hanel, Narvel Blackstock, Dave Stewart and Pam Williams.

Other comedy pilots in the works at ABC include an untitled sitcom starring Mandy Moore and How to Live With Your Parents for the Rest of Your Life featuring Scrubs actress Sarah Chalke.
