Ugly Betty' Ana Ortiz joins ABC pilot 'Devious Maids



Ana Ortiz has landed a lead role in ABC's pilot Devious Maids.

The drama, based on a Mexican show, is being developed by Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry.

It focuses on a group of women working as maids in Beverly Hills and is expected to include a number of mysteries, including the discovery of a body.

Ortiz has signed up to play Marisol, a well-educated woman who has a hidden reason for becoming a maid, Deadline reports.

Marisol is determined to find out about a murder case after her son was convicted of the crime.

Ortiz is probably best known for her role as Hilda in Ugly Betty. She has also appeared in shows such as Hung and Boston Legal.

News of her casting comes shortly after Heroes star Dania Ramirez landed a role in Devious Maids as a single mother working for two actors.

Scott Speedman, Camille de Pazzis join ABC's 'Last Resort' pilot



Scott Speedman and Camille de Pazzis have signed up for roles in ABC's pilot Last Resort.

The drama, which comes from The Shield creator Shawn Ryan, focuses on the crew of a nuclear submarine who become fugitives after refusing to fire nuclear missiles.

Speedman has now joined the cast as Sam Kendal, TV Guide reports.

Sam, who is described as even-handed and moral, is the second-in-command on the submarine.

Meanwhile, de Pazzis will play a European scientist called Sophie who works at the NATO listening station taken over by the submarine's crew.

Speedman previously starred as Ben in Felicity, while de Pazzis has worked largely in French television.

News of their casting comes after Andre Braugher, Autumn Reeser, Daniel Lissing and Daisy Betts signed up for roles in the Last Resort pilot.

Zach Cregger boards NBC comedy pilot



Zach Cregger has signed up for a role in an NBC comedy pilot.

The project, which does not yet have a name, is being produced by comedian Jimmy Fallon.

It focuses on a group of three immature fathers.

Cregger has now landed one of the lead roles in the potential series, Deadline reports.

His character, a programmer, is described as easy going but is trying to balance his job, children and marriage.

Cregger previously starred in Friends with Benefits, which aired one season on NBC last year

Erik Jensen joins NBC's 'The Frontier' pilot



Erik Jensen has signed up for a role in NBC's pilot The Frontier.

The drama, set in the early 1800s, follows a group of travellers who embark on a dangerous cross-country journey.

Jensen has now joined the cast as Dr. William Strong, The Hollywood Reporter says.

The actor has previously starred in shows such as Love Monkey and CSI, while more recently he has had guest spots in 30 Rock, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Leverage and NCIS: LA.

Jensen's casting comes after Bridget Regan, Ethan Embry, Jake McLaughlin, Megan Ferguson, Gina Bramhill and Al Weaver all signed up for roles in the pilot for The Frontier.

The project is being directed and executive produced by Thomas Schlamme, whose previous credits include Pan Am, The West Wing, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and Mr Sunshine.

Dennis Quaid joins CBS pilot 'Ralph Lamb'?



Dennis Quaid could be heading to series television.

The GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra actor has been tapped to star in the CBS pilot Ralph Lamb from Goodfellas writer Nicholas Pileggi, according to New York Magazine.

The Shield star Michael Chiklis is also in talks to join the project.

Ralph Lamb centers on the real-life story of a former rodeo cowboy who became a sheriff in the 1960s. Quaid would play the titular character, while Chiklis has signed on to play his nemesis.

Quaid can next be seen in the adaptation of What to Expect When You're Expecting, which opens on May 18 in the US and May 23 in the UK

The actor said last year that he believes his past addiction to cocaine helped make him a better person.

Heroes' star Milo Ventimiglia signs on to Frank Darabont pilot



Milo Ventimiglia has reportedly signed on to star in LA Noir.

The Heroes veteran is thought to be joining the cast of the TNT crime drama created by former Walking Dead showrunner Frank Darabont, according to Deadline.

Ventimiglia will play a marine named Ned Stax who becomes a "fixer" for the mob.

The series is based on the John Buntin book L.A. Noir: The Struggle For The Soul Of America's Most Seductive City. Set in the 1940s and 1950s, it centers on the fight between the LAPD, led by Police Chief William Parker, and the crime organisation championed by the infamous mobster Mickey Cohen.

The Walking Dead's Jon Bernthal is reportedly in negotiations to play Los Angeles police officer Joe Teague.

Ventimiglia has started developing a new comedy pilot for FX focusing on a group of drone pilots in Nevada.

Darabont left The Walking Dead in July last year.

Titus Welliver joins NBC pilot 'Midnight Sun'



Titus Welliver has landed a role in NBC's pilot Midnight Sun.

The drama, based on the Israeli series Pillars of Smoke, focuses on what happens after members of a cult in Alaska go missing.

The show is expected to follow a FBI specialist who discovers a conspiracy while investigating the cult's disappearance.

Welliver has now joined the cast, TV Line reports. He is expected to play the leader of the cult.

The actor has previously starred in shows such as Deadwood, Lost, Sons of Anarchy, The Good Wife and CSI.

Midnight Sun is being written by Lisa Zwerling, who has worked on The Event, FlashForward and ER.

Other pilots currently in the works at NBC include period drama The Frontier, a remake of the British show Bad Girls, and firefighter show Chicago Fire.

Monica Raymund joins NBC's 'Chicago Fire' pilot



Monica Raymund has signed up for a role in NBC's pilot Chicago Fire.

The drama, which is being produced by Law & Order showrunner Dick Wolf, focuses on the lives of the men and women working in the Chicago Fire Department.

Raymund has now joined the cast and will play Gabriella, Deadline reports.

Her character, who works as a paramedic, is said to be quick, brave and dedicated to her job.

Raymund has previously starred in shows such as Lie To Me and The Good Wife.

News of her casting comes after The Vampire Diaries star Taylor Kinney signed up to play the squad lieutenant and Oz's Eamonn Walker joined the cast as Chief Walter Boden.

Dichen Lachman joins 'Last Resort' pilot



Dichen Lachman has landed a role in ABC's pilot Last Resort.

The drama, which comes from The Shield creator Shawn Ryan, focuses on the crew of a nuclear submarine who become fugitives after refusing to fire missiles.

They end up taking over a NATO listening output and declaring themselves the world's smallest nuclear nation.

Lachman has now signed up to play a resident of the island which becomes home to the crew, TV Line reports.

Her character Tani, who owns a bar and is the daughter of an elder tribesman, is described as smart but naive.

Lachman previously starred in the Australian soap Neighbours before appearing in shows such as Dollhouse, Torchwood and Being Human.

News of her casting comes after Andre Braugher, Autumn Reeser, Daniel Lissing, Scott Speedman, Camille de Pazzis and Daisy Betts landed roles in the pilot.

Arrow' casts 'Pan Am' actor Colin Donnell



Colin Donnell has joined the cast of The CW's superhero drama Arrow.

The Pan Am actor will play a character named Tommy Merlyn in the DC Comics-inspired project, according to Deadline.

Donnell will line up alongside Stephen Amell, David Ramsey, Susanna Thompson and Willa Holland in the show. Game of Thrones director David Nutter will helm the pilot episode, based on a script by Green Lantern writers Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim.

Amell was previously announced as protagonist Oliver Queen, a billionaire playboy turned crimefighter. Katie Cassidy will take on the lead female role of Dinah 'Laurel' Lance, also known as Black Canary in the DC Comics universe.

Donnell's character is thought to be based on DC villain Merlyn, an archer introduced to the Green Arrow comics in the 1970s as a rival to the eponymous hero.

Arrow will be produced by Warner Bros TV with Fringe co-executive producer Andrew Kreisberg overseeing its development.

Ken Olin, Natalie Mendoza join ABC's 'Americana' pilot



Ken Olin and Natalie Mendoza have landed roles in ABC's pilot Americana.

The drama, which is set in the fashion world, is being executive produced by Grey's Anatomy's Mark Gordon.

Anthony LaPaglia has already signed up to play fashion designer Robert Soulter, the patriarch of the family featured in the show.

Olin has now joined the cast as Martin, the owner of a company which makes clothes, The Hollywood Reporter says. Martin's daughter works for the company.

Meanwhile, Mendoza will play Wendy, who is described as pretty but mean.

Olin has previously starred in shows such as Hill Street Blues, thirtysomething and Brothers & Sisters, while Mendoza appeared in the British drama Hotel Babylon and was due to appear in the Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark but left after an injury.

Americana is being penned by North Country scribe Michael Seitzman.

Brie Larson signs up for CBS comedy pilot



Brie Larson has signed up for a role in a CBS comedy pilot.

The project, which is currently untitled, has been created by The Muppets scribe Nick Stoller.

Michael Angarano has already signed up to play the lead character Jake, an advertising executive who breaks up with his girlfriend and is then shocked to discover that he is working a cubicle away from her.

Larson has now landed the role of Jake's ex-girlfriend Laura, Deadline reports.

Larson previously starred as Kate in United States of Tara and has appeared in movies such as 13 Going On 30, Greenberg and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

She will also appear in the upcoming film 21 Jump Street.

Ashley Tisdale joins Louis CK CBS pilot



Ashley Tisdale has signed up for a role in a CBS comedy pilot.

The project, which is being developed by Bee Movie writer Spike Feresten and comedian Louis CK, focuses on a group of young people trying to achieve their dreams despite the difficult economic climate.

Tisdale has now joined the cast and will play Petra, Deadline reports.

Petra, who works as an assistant to a vintage clothing designer, is described as attractive and sarcastic.

Tisdale is possibly best known for her role in the High School Musical movies. Since then, she has appeared in The CW's drama Hellcats and recently had a guest role in Raising Hope.

Other comedy pilots in the works at CBS include Partners, which stars Ugly Betty's Michael Urie and One Tree Hill's Sophia Bush, and a project from Bridesmaids star Melissa McCarthy.

Chris Egan joins ABC pilot 'Beauty and the Beast'



Chris Egan has signed up for a role in ABC's drama pilot Beauty and the Beast.

The project, a reimagining of the classic fairytale, focuses on a princess called Grace who forms a bond with a mysterious beast.

Egan has now signed up to play Grace's fiancé, Deadline says.

His character Gorrick is Grace's father's "most trusted" soldier.

Egan previously starred on the Australian soap Home & Away and appeared in Kings. He was attached to the ABC pilot Poe last season but the project did not get picked up to series.

Beauty and the Beast, which is being penned by Jon Steinberg, should not be confused with The CW's pilot of the same name.

The CW project, which is based loosely on a 1980s drama, recently cast Smallville's Kristin Kreuk and Life Unexpected actor Austin Basis.

Ryan Phillippe leaves CBS pilot shortly after landing lead role



Ryan Phillippe has exited the CBS drama pilot, previously titled Golden Boy, soon after getting the lead role.

Last week, Phillippe was announced to play the lead role of a cop who experiences a rapid career progression from officer to detective to Police Commissioner.

The Stop-Loss actor left the project after having doubts about committing to a network drama series, but the departure was amicable, reports Deadline.

Phillippe's decision to leave the show was apparently also influenced by his first primetime TV experience on another drama series, Damages.

Phillippe is set to play a Julian Assange-like character in Damages, which will be his first regular small screen acting role since the soap opera One Life to Live.

Damages will return to cable this summer.

Hangover' star Justin Bartha joins 'Glee' creator Ryan Murphy comedy



Justin Bartha is to star in a new comedy from the co-creator of Glee Ryan Murphy.

The Hangover actor, who played Doug in the movie and its sequel, will appear in NBC's pilot The New Normal, about a gay couple and a woman who becomes their surrogate.

Bartha will play David, while his husband Bryan will be portrayed by The Book of Mormon's Andrew Rannells.

Scottish actress Georgia King from BBC's Little Dorritt plays Goldie, the surrogate mother.

NBC won the rights to the 30-minute show following a multiple network bidding war in January.

Ali Adler - who joined Glee as a writer this season - will pen the comedy alongside Murphy, who will also direct the pilot.

The 20th Television/Ryan Murphy Productions project will be Murphy's fourth series if subsequent episodes are to be ordered.

Aside from Glee, he has found success with The Glee Project and American Horror Story.

Greg Grunberg joins JoAnna Garcia CBS comedy pilot



Greg Grunberg has signed up for a role in a CBS pilot.

The comedy is currently untitled but has been known as Oh F**k It's You, Deadline reports.

The show focuses on Nick, who realises after a health scare that he is in love with his best friend Wendy.

Grunberg has now joined the cast as Wendy's brother Charlie, who is also very good friends with Nick.

Charlie, who is described as cynical, is going through a difficult divorce and counsels Nick against confessing his feelings as he remembers Nick and Wendy's previous unsuccessful attempts at dating.

Grunberg's TV credits include shows such as Heroes, Felicity, Alias and Love Bites.

JoAnna Garcia has already signed up to play Wendy in the comedy.

The project is being developed by Friends, How I Met Your Mother and Will & Grace producer Greg Malins and Dawson's Creek, Everwood, Eli Stone and Brothers & Sisters alum Greg Berlanti.

Brandon Routh joins CBS pilot 'Partners'



Brandon Routh, Elizabeth Regen and Lucy Davis have landed roles in CBS's pilot Partners.

The comedy focuses on the friendship between two architects - Charlie is straight, while Louis is gay.

Routh has now signed up to play Louis's partner, a former alcoholic who is now a nurse, Deadline reports.

Routh previously played Superman in Superman Returns and appeared in Scott Pilgrim vs The World. He also starred as Daniel Shaw in Chuck.

Meanwhile, Regen has signed up to play Charlie and Louis's assistant Ro-Ro, while Davis has joined the cast as Renata, the bookkeeper for Charlie's fiancé Ali.

Regen has appeared in shows such as Whoopi, The Black Donnellys, Sherri and Entourage, while Davis's television credits include Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and the original British The Office.

Ugly Betty star Michael Urie has already landed the role of Louis, while One Tree Hill's Sophia Bush will play Ali in the pilot.
