Rapper Eve to Guest-Star on Glee

Eve has signed on for a guest-starring gig on Glee, TVGuide.com has confirmed.

The rapper will play the coach of a competing glee club for one episode. She joins previously announced guest stars Kristin Chenoweth, Victor Garber and Josh Groban.

Though she's best known for her hip-hop stylings (watch the videos for "Let Me Blow Your Mind" and "Rich Girl", her addictive collaborations with Gwen Stefani) and paw-print tattoos, Eve has also done some acting.

First off, she had a self-titled sitcom on UPN for three seasons. She co-starred with Vin Diesel in xXx and with Ice Cube in the Barbershop films. She'll also appear in Whip It!, Drew Barrymore's upcoming directorial debut about a roller-derby team, as a skating sensation named Rosa Sparks.

Glee had a special preview of the first episode before the penultimate outing of American Idol in May, scoring an impressive 10 million viewers. Fans will have to wait until Wednesday, Sept. 16 for Episode 2, but a Fox source tells me the network plans to rerun the pilot episode before then for anyone who hasn't streamed it yet. Mary J. Blige for 'Extreme Makeover'

R&B star Mary J. Blige and rapper Xzibit will appear on season seven of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, ABC has confirmed.

The two celebrities will join the design team and connect with those in need of help when the new season kicks off on Sunday, September 27.

The volunteers will roll up in the bus and surprise the deserving family, and will get to know the family's circumstances and needs one on one.

Other participating surprise guests are expected to be announced shortly.

Mary J. Blige recently lent her support to a campaign involved in raising awareness about home possession.

Missy Peregrym cast in ABC's 'Copper'

Missy Peregrym has landed the lead role in ABC's Canadian cop drama Copper, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The actress, best-known for playing Andi on The CW's Reaper, has been cast as Andy McNally, a newly-minted cop fresh from the academy and the daughter of a homicide detective.

Filming for the series, which has been given a 13-episode order, is due to begin this month in Toronto.

Chris Kattan joins ABC's 'The Middle'

Chris Kattan has been added to the cast of ABC's new comedy The Middle.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor/comedian - best known for his work on Saturday Night Live - has joined the cast as a series regular.

Kattan, who guest-starred in the pilot, will play Bob, a good friend of Patricia Heaton's character Frankie Heck.

The Middle will join Courteney Cox's Cougar Town and mockumentary Modern Family to make up a new comedy block on Wednesday nights in ABC's 2009 Fall schedule, which was unveiled last month.

Earlier this year, Former Femina Miss India Neha Dhupia praised Kattan for his work on US TV series Bollywood Hero, in which she also co-starred.

Monaghan confirmed for 'FlashForward'

Dominic Monaghan is to star in ABC's new drama series FlashForward, it has been confirmed.

The actor, famous for his roles in Lost and Lord Of The Rings, will play a character called Simon.

Speaking at this year's Comic-Con, the show's producer David S. Groyer initially refused to confirm or deny rumours surrounding Monaghan's involvement in the project.

Moments later, fans were treated to a sneak preview of the series, including an shot of Monaghan, whose character Goyer described as "game-changing".

FlashForward is due to premiere Thursday, September 24 on ABC.

Gabrielle Union joins 'Flash Forward'

Gabrielle Union has signed up to star in ABC's Flash Forward, it has been reported.

The sci-fi drama, starring Joseph Fiennes as an FBI agent, will centre on a mysterious global occurrence that enables people to see a vision of the future.

The Bring It On actress has been cast as Zoey, a criminal defence attorney who will serve as a love interest for one of the other castmembers on the series, TV Guide reports.

"We're thrilled that Gabrielle is joining our cast," executive producer David S. Goyer said in a statement. "When we met with her, we immediately knew she was our Zoey. She's witty, soulful and beautiful. I've been wanting to work with her for a long time."

Last year, Union was featured on a multi-episode arc of Ugly Betty, in which she played Wilhelmina's (Vanessa Williams) younger sister Renee Slater.

'Three Rivers', 'Forgotten' cast leads

Heather Stephens has joined the cast of ABC's The Forgotten, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

She will take over the role of Lindsay, who is left to care for her baby after her husband is jailed for an unknown crime. The part was originally played by Lost's Reiko Aylesworth, before she dropped out earlier this year.

Additionally, Alfre Woodard has been tapped as a lead on CBS' new medical drama Three Rivers. She will replace Julia Ormond, who was cast as the head of surgery at Three Rivers Hospital in the pilot.

Three Rivers is due to premiere on Sunday, October 4 on CBS, while ABC's The Forgotten is slated to begin on Tuesday, September 22.

Alyssa Milano's ABC pilot nears pickup

ABC's Romantically Challenged is reportedly close to receiving a series order.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the pilot, starring Alyssa Milano, may be picked up for 13 episodes.

The comedy, which is being considered for midseason, centres on a thirtysomething man who is torn between his girlfriend (Milano) and his needy best friend.

ABC recently greenlit four new comedies - Cougar Town, Modern Family, The Middle and Hank - which are due to premiere this Fall.

ADAM: Sorry, Cromartie fans, but Dillahunt is not Dr. Jekyll. He plays the head of a celebrity security service, which doesn't exactly scream "serial killer cover" to us. Then again, the character's name does imply duplicity. Here's what we do know about Dr. Jekyll: He's infamous for leaving behind immaculate crime scenes: The body is all the evidence the CSIs will ever get. Fantastic! A serial killer with OCD!

Any scoop on Medium and how it might change now that it's switched to CBS? — Antioch
MICKEY: "I guess I can let the cat out of the bag: [Allison] comes out of the coma," jokes Medium executive producer Glenn Gordon Caron. He explained that he half-seriously wrote the medical cliff-hanger to stave off cancellation. Now that the show is safely ensconced on Friday nights with soul-sister Ghost Whisperer, this season will deal with the aftermath of Allison's health problems, and how it alters her gift. Look for Marc Webb, director of (500) Days of Summer, to helm an upcoming episode, though not the zombie one.

I'm dying for Mad Men to come back! Got any scoop? — Jamie
ADAM: Secrets are so heavily guarded on this show that I am actually typing this in a whisper. So lean in closer, and for a carton of Lucky Strikes, I'll tell you this: The British invasion of Sterling Cooper isn't so groovy after all, in that it brings with it a bunch of firings (topical!), but for at least two main characters, the upheaval will be sorta-good news. Plus, Joan's got a new man in her life who wastes no time creating headaches for her at the office. That's because he works there, too.

Will Amy Acker return to Dollhouse? I heard she was cast on another show, but that 13th episode seemed to indicate that Whiskey/Dr. Saunders is an important character to the show's mythology. — Candace
MICKEY: Joss Whedon says despite her commitments to Happy Town, Acker will be back for Season 2, though not nearly as much as he would like her to be. But, he hinted, in her few episodes, they're really going to make the most of her.

So psyched for Pauley Perrette's crossover on NCIS: Los Angeles? What can you tell me about it? — Josh
MICKEY: I'm about to break a lot of fanboy hearts. As previously reported, Abby will primarily be on N-Sizzla (say it out loud) to help solve a case, but she'll also be getting a little BIZ-AY. Barrett Foa, who plays NCIS: LA's tech-op Eric Beal (and who once appeared in Broadway's Avenue Q, incidentally), told me exclusively that he just shot a scene with Perrette of a flirtatious, romantic nature. He reports that Perrette is just as charming as Abby is. Aw, hot geek love!

Can Ashlee Simpson-Wentz even act? I was surprised to see her name among the Melrose Place cast. — Nell

MICKEY: Well, it's a fair question, as Simpson-Wentz made her name behind a microphone. But I'm happy to report that she's... not too bad. While her screen time is minimal in the pilot (there's, like, one scene of your typical, wide-eyed small-town girl kind of stuff), my moles tell me that future episodes will require AS-W to do some real heavy lifting, acting-wise. Soon we'll see that Violet is no shrinking, um, violet. In fact, she's kind of a stalker. Watch your back, Auggie.

In the trailer for Season 4 of Dexter, I noticed that they say the Trinity Killer has been on the loose for more than 30 years.  Does this mean we might see parallel storylines in two time periods with both Dexter and Harry pursuing the same character? — John
ADAM: I like where your head is at, John. Unfortunately, while Harry (James Remar) will be back for Season 4, everything appears to be business as usual for Dead Daddy. "He remains the visual embodiment of Dexter's code," a Showtime rep tells me, adding, "We don't assume Harry was aware of Trinity."

Any scoop on Smallville? — Liam
MICKEY: When CW President Dawn Ostroff told the crowd at the fall TV previews Tuesday that Michael Rosenbaum could return to the show in the future, but probably wouldn't this season, I swear she was holding something back. So I checked in with a few of my favorite red-and-blue blurs, and they told me that we will be seeing more of Lex in future episodes. What do you think? Is this a trick?

Any update on the Beckett/Castle situation? Do we know how long Castle's going to be in the doghouse for going behind Kate's back regarding her mother's case? — Linda
MICKEY: Who's to say that's why he'll be in the doghouse? As Season 2 begins, Beckett will be stewing over something entirely different because while she's off doing the gritty police work, Castle will get them both in trouble yet again.

Care to give any scoop about Julianna Margulies' The Good Wife? I am dying to see it premiere in September! — Karen
MICKEY: The show's ripped-from-the-headlines premise has Margulies returning to the workforce after her state-attorney husband (Chris Noth) is embroiled in a sex scandal and sent to prison. Look for a startlingly powerful scene between Margulies and Noth within the show's first five minutes. And Noth's character, who is seen sucking the toes of a prostitute, won't always be a jailbird.

Will I be able to catch up on the first season of Fringe online anywhere before the fall premiere? — Shawn
MICKEY: Try our Online Video Guide for the episodes you might have missed. Otherwise, you can wait until the first season comes out on DVD Sept. 8. In an alternate universe, TV studios wouldn't care about making money, but we live in this one.

Is there going to be a new psycho on One Tree Hill this season? — Jerry and Lana
MICKEY: Let me ask you this: Is James Van Der Beek a psycho? Because I'm hearing the erstwhile Dawson might want to return to Tree Hill. There's a catch though. He'd like to direct an episode or two.

Adam's Mega Rave:  After already burning its way back into my heart with an incredibly strong season and a delightful against-type performance from Michael J. Fox, Rescue Me throws the fabulous Maura Tierney into the mix. Her quirky, ball-busting character goes toe-to-toe with Tommy Gavin and still has the guts to call him Opie! Get well soon, Maura — we can't wait to see you again on Parenthood.

Mickey's Mini Rant: Here's the thing: The CW's Vampire Diaries actually looks pretty good, so why doth the creators and stars protest too much about its resemblance to Twilight? We know it came from different source material, and we know that nevertheless the stories are very similar. Relax, people!

USA Network Announces New Cast of Characters

USA Network has announced its new cast of characters with a 2010 development slate of original branded concepts. Contributing to the slate are the creative talents behind some of television and film's biggest hits, including Stephen J. Cannell, Mike Newell, Tom Fontana, Steve Stark, David Breckman and Randy Zisk. The slate was announced today by Jeff Wachtel, president, USA original programming & co-head, original content, Universal Cable Productions.

"USA's development slate reflects our continued commitment to creating uniquely appealing characters," said Wachtel. "One year after forming Universal Cable Productions, the studio is moving ahead with an aggressive lineup for 2009/2010."

Mike Tyson Returns To The Screen On Fox's New Series 'Brothers' This Fall

Mike Tyson, in his first role following his memorable cameo in the hit film "The Hangover," is confirmed to appear as a guest star on the new half-hour comedy series Brothers, which debuts with a special one-hour series premiere on Friday, September 25 at 8:00 PM ET/PT on Fox. In an upcoming episode, Tyson shows up to collect money from MIKE (Michael Strahan) at his brother's (Daryl Chill Mitchell) restaurant.

'Miami Trauma' finds new star

Mike Vogel will star in CBS’ upcoming medical drama Miama Trauma as “a talented, charming and fiercely competitive surgeon with a healthy ego,” according to the Hollywood Reporter. He replaces Richard Coyle, who played the role in the pilot. Vogel can be seen next in She’s Out of My League.

Aniston to appear in Cox's 'Cougar Town'?

Courteney Cox has said that Jennifer Aniston would be happy to appear in her sitcom Cougar Town if she has a part written for her.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour in Los Angeles, Cox said that her former Friends colleague is a fan of her latest project.

Cox said: "You know, she's a good friend and I know she loves the show. I'm not going to say she is [going to appear] because I don't know.

"If [producer Bill Lawrence] writes her a character, I'm sure she'll be glad to do it."

Regarding the thematic similarities between Cougar Town and Aniston's upcoming movie project Pumas, Cox added: "I did know about her movie, but I'm not sure exactly what the story is.

"I guess Pumas are in their 30s. Jaguars are 50s and Sabretooth go right into the 60s?"

Aniston and Cox appeared together and shared an onscreen "goodbye kiss" in an episode of Cox's drama Dirt in 2007.

V' producers 'may cast original actors'

The producers of the V remake are contemplating casting actors from the original series, it has emerged.

Scott Peters, an executive producer on the reboot, revealed that actress Jane Badler, who played villainess alien Diana on the first series, may return to the update.

He told Sci-Fi Wire: "Jane Badler has approached our producers and has been in touch here and there."

The show's creators are also considering offering roles to Marc Singer and Faye Grant, who led the resistance against the Visitors in the original 1980s miniseries and television show.

He added: "I haven't had a chance to actually sit down or talk to anybody face-to-face, but I would love to. I don't want somebody to just walk by in the background and then feature them for a second. I want to find a really interesting role for somebody."

V star Elizabeth Mitchell recently told DS that iconic moments from the original programme will be retained for the remake.

Ausiello: Burn Notice’s season just concluded (in spectacular fashion) and, as far as I could tell, not a single major character got shot in the chest by a relative. So that narrows the list to just seven. And here’s a bonus clue: The victim is male!

Question: Are you one of the lucky journalists who got to see the Mad Men season premiere ahead of time? —Joan
Ausiello: I am indeed. I’ve been threatened with death and dismemberment if I reveal any of the episode’s big twists so that leaves me with no other choice than to tease the episode’s biggest twist: Someone **** ****** **** *** ***** *o**! (The opener is stellar, BTW. No surprise there.)

Question: How was your Aushole meet-and-greet at Comic-Con?
Ausiello: If I were to rank my top 100 most incredible moments of 2009 so far, the Aushole gathering would so almost make the cut. It was that incredible. Even better: The event garnered some national press coverage!

Question: How about a hot and juicy True Blood scoop on Sookie and Eric. —Dana
Ausiello: Sookie will be planting her luscious lips all over Eric’s hard body in Sunday’s episode. Hot any juicy enough for you?

Question: Who will Robert Buckley’s character be paired with romantically on One Tree Hill? —Jennifer
Ausiello: A better question is who won’t he be paired with romantically. With only a handful of episodes under his belt, Buckley tells me that his sports agent alter ego has already “been kissed by pretty much every female character on the show. He’s a little bit of a playboy.”

Question: When is Gibbs going to start building a new boat on NCIS? And where’d the last one go? —Christopher
Ausiello: Sounds like a question for exec producer Shane Brennan. “In the first three or four episodes, Gibbs has his tape measure out and he’s measuring the basin,” he teases. “And everyone will have to wait and see what goes in there. I will tell you this: You haven’t seen the last of the boat.”

Question: Any news on who will replace Louise Lombard as the female lead of NCIS: Los Angeles? —NM
Ausiello: It’s an up-an-coming actress by the name of No One. “At this point, I don’t think we’re going to be adding anyone else to the cast,” says Brennan. “We have enough strength in the cast.” Although Lombard’s Lara Macy won’t be sticking around full-time, Brennan doesn’t rule out an occasional guest appearance down the line. “She didn’t die,” he says. “We’ll find out that she went to an overseas post. When Callen (Chris O’Donnell) was shot last season, they had to move to the new operation center and [Lara] was relocated. Will she come back? Never say never.”

Question: Do you have any spoilers for Supernatural? —Manny
Ausiello: Ever wonder what Sam would be like if he was totally evil? You’ll find out in episode 4.

Question: Two Dexter Qs for ya: Will the return of Lundy effect Deb’s new blossoming relationship? It’d be nice to see her in an actual stable relationship for once. And will Deb’s investigation of her father be addressed right away? —Dana
Ausiello: Are you kidding? Deb in a stable relationship? Dream on. And a few obstacles stand in Deb’s way that put her little pet project on the back burner. But her father’s infidelity/crooked past is something she won’t be forgetting about anytime soon.

Question: Do you have any Desperate Housewives scoop? Pretty please. – Ashley
Ausiello: This season’s mystery will kick off in the premiere when a pivotal female character gets strangled. Guesses? Head to the comments!

Question: Any plans for Sarah Chalke to return to How I Met Your Mother? —Matt
Ausiello: Yes, but probably not until May 2010. That’s when The Wedding Bride, the movie Stella’s fiancé was writing, hits theaters. “If we can pull it off,” says exec producer Carter Bays, “it’s going to be a cool little treat for the second half of the season.”

Question: Will Barney and Robin make it as a couple on How I Met Your Mother? —Mike
Ausiello: Who knows? Come to think of it, Carter Bays probably does. Let’s ask him! “It’s been fun discovering what they’re like in a couple,” he tells me.  “We’ve seen Robin in a relationship with Ted; we know she can do it. But for Barney, this is undiscovered country. As an adult, he’s never had a relationship. He had a girlfriend in college who totally broke his heart and sent him on this journey towards becoming Barney, and he’s been [the same] since. So it’s been very interesting seeing him take his attitude and the world view that he’s developed as a single guy and apply it to being in a relationship.” Bays adds that their relationship will “have repercussions for everyone,” particularly Ted. “We’re exploring how Ted deals with the fact that his ex-girlfriend and best friend are now dating. And we’ll see how Marshall and Lily deal with the fact that there’s another couple in the group. It’s giving us a lot of juice for the first half of the season.”

Question: Any plans for Aaron Paul to return to Big Love? —Ed
Ausiello: Yes, the Emmy nominee tells me his Breaking Bad bosses have given him the green light to moonlight on season 4 of Big Love. Question: In your Ask Ausiello absence you promised to keep us busy with lots of prattle from the press tour. Well, you lacked a little on the 24 front. How about making up for that now? —Jordan
Ausiello: Katee Sackhoff won’t be stuck sitting behind a computer for long. I’m told her brainy bombshell will be sprung from CTU’s fancy new headquarters by episode 5. In other 24 news, there’s a big Audrey Raines scoop in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly (on sale Friday).

Question: Isn’t it a little soon for Big Bang Theory to be coupling Leonard and Penny up? What’s the hurry? —Don
Ausiello: I’m inclined to agree with exec producer Bill Prady that “there’s been two years of foreplay and the feeling was that it’s time. We know how Penny feels and we know how Leonard feels. And when he comes back from the North Pole [in the season premiere], she’s figured everything out and thinks they should just got for it. But a Sheldon crisis keeps Leonard from being able to move forward.” What happens when the crisis passes? Lousy sex!

Question: I watched all your Bones Comic-Con vids and I didn’t hear one question asked about Angela and Hodgins. Sad day. Got any scoop on where they are headed next season? —Shanna
Ausiello: Good news: When it comes to Ang and Hodg scoop, my Press Tour vids succeeded where the Comic-Con ones failed. Check ‘em out. And here’s a bonus Angela scoop for your trouble: Exec producer Hart Hanson tells me that early in the season Angela will break her vow of celibacy with a man. “It’s someone we’ve seen before,” he teases. “I just told Michaela who it was and she shrieked.” It’s probably no coincidence that in the same episode, Angela and Brennan’s friendship is tested like never before. “Angela and Brennan have a big fight,” Hanson reveals. “Their friendship is deeply challenged. It’ll be the first time that Brennan realizes that being totally rational about something isn’t necessarily being a good friend. And every time she has done that in the past, Angela has come around and excused Brennan’s behavior. This time, if they’re friendship is to be maintained, Brennan has to take a step toward the irrational.”

Question: After loving nearly every minute of Glee, I was reminded of the fact that you said it “didn’t exactly wow” you. Have you seen anything beyond the pilot? And, if so, are you feeling better about the show? —Lauren
Ausiello: I have not seen anything beyond the pilot. I’m hoping to get episodes 2 and 4 this week, so I should have an answer for you by next week. I hear they’re really good so I’m optimistic. Glee’s Lea Michelle certainly was enthusiastic about what’s in store this season when we pressed her for scoop at Sunday’s Teen Choice Awards. “We have a great love triangle developing between Finn, Quinn and Rachel which takes tons of twists and turns,” she said. “We’ve also got Beyonce plus a football team in one episode. That is all I can say about that, but it will be amazing I promise. And my new favorite performance as a group so far this season is when we did an Avril Lavigne song called ‘Keep Holding On.’ It sounded so good.”

Question: Any Warehouse 13 spoilers? —Jesse
Ausiello: “Nipple clamps,” teases leading man Eddie McClintock. He’s not kidding. See for yourself!

Question: Anything to report on the new season for Criminal Minds? —Judy
Ausiello: The show turns 100 episodes old this fall, and that can only mean one thing: Major stuff’s gonna happen! “It’s our ninth episode of the season,” says exec producer Ed Bernero. “And a story that started in the last episode of season 4 is going to culminate in this episode. That’s all I can say without giving too much away.” C’mon, there must be something else you can share. “You’ll see somebody caught that we really want caught.” That’s what I’m talkin’ about.

Question: Anything for Heroes lovers? —Charles
Ausiello: Last week Greg Grunberg tweeted the following: “I just read the craziest s–t in a new script of Heroes EVER! What?! No we di’n't! WOW!” The very next day, I saw him at press tour and pressed him deets. “It involves a cockroach,” he elaborated. “And it was incredible.”

Question: The Smallville trailer that was screened at Comic-Con appears to show Lois and Clark having sex. Are appearances deceiving? —Antonio
Ausiello: Sort of. “It’s more than just sex,” counters exec producer Brian Peterson. “They’re making love. Clark would never [just have sex].” Hope that clears up any confusion!

Question: A lot of rumors going around about Michael Rosenabum returning to Smallville this season. What’s the real deal? —Ethan
Ausiello: The real deal is there’s no deal. Yet. “We would love to have him back,” says Peterson. “But there’s no movement on that.”

Question: I need some Office scoopage! Anything Ausiello, please! –Danny
Ausiello: Anything? Even if it’s just a selection of shameless twitpics from my visit to Dunder Mifflin last week? ‘Cause that’s all I got. Actually, that’s not true. I also have this: The show is looking to cast an actress that looks like Daryl (Craig Robinson) from behind. And this: Michael’s going to cultivate some mob ties this season. Denzel Washington for new Fox series?

Denzel Washington is reportedly eyeing an executive producer role on cop drama Billy Stiles.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project, from ER producer Virgil Williams, has been pitched to Fox.

The series, which is based on a short story by Williams, centres on the title character, a genius gang member-turned-cop.

It was recently reported that Washington had landed the role of Barack Obama in a new film biopic.

Kardashian to guest star in 'Brothers'

Kim Kardashian has signed on for a guest appearance in new Fox sitcom Brothers, reports People.

The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star will reportedly play herself in an episode which also features a cameo appearance from Access Hollywood host Nancy O'Dell.

The storyline is thought to revolve around Kardashian confronting Michael Trainor (Michael Strahan) about rumours that the pair have been secretly dating.

She will film her appearance in the next few weeks and the episode will air in October.

Brothers premieres on September 25.

Spears 'to appear on Letterman chatshow'

Britney Spears is to appear on David Letterman's US chatshow, it has emerged.

The 'Radar' singer appeared on the late night programme in 2006 and confirmed that she was pregnant with second son Jayden James. She later made a cameo appearance in November of that year, two months after the birth of her child.

The popstar presents the 'Top Ten List' on the TV series on Tuesday night, Us Weekly reports.

"Thank you so much," she says on the episode. "I'm in town, and I'm just such a huge fan. I had to stop by."

"That's very nice of you to say," Letterman replies. "That means so much to me."

"Oh, no, I wasn't talking about you. I was talking about Will Ferrell," she quips.

Spears was recently nominated for several MTV Video Music Awards.

Ask Ausiello: Spoilers on 'Grey's,' 'House,' 'NCIS,' 'Bones,' 'Gossip Girl,' 'Supernatural,' and more!

Question: Grey’s Anatomy fans are buzzing about a possible Derek and Meredith break-up this season. Please tell me it isn’t true. —Katherine
Ausiello: It isn’t true. Here’s what is true: The Mer-Der relationship will be written a little lighter during the first half of the season as a result of Ellen Pompeo’s real-life pregnancy and subsequent maternity leave. “I think we would be irresponsible writers if we didn’t give a woman who’s seven-months pregnant a little less time on her feet,” maintains exec producer Krista Vernoff. “She’s waddling around seven-months pregnant about to push a baby out of her body. We have a responsibility to alleviate her screen time a little bit.” That said, Vernoff insists Mer-Der are at no risk of losing their title as Seattle Grace’s reigning super couple. “It would be false to say that Mer and Der are no longer the focus of the series,” she says. “Derek and Mer will always be a focus of the series.”

Question: If you don’t give us some 30 Rock scoopage, I shall cry. —Amy
Ausiello: No tears, please. They, um, creep me out. So you hold back the flood waters, and I’ll tell you some stuff, okay? Deal? In the season’s fourth episode, Liz will endeavor to round out the cast of TGS with a new member, naturally leaning toward a hire who is more than just crazy talented. (Or less than just crazy talented… as in just crazy.) That same episode will introduce a wannabe who’s hoping to be discovered while pretending he’s a robot in Times Square. Since the character’s supposed to recur, his dream just might come true.

Question: Do you have anything scoopy for Private Practice? The season finale left me clinging to my seat and cringing in pain for Amy Brenneman! —Mallory
Ausiello: Two things I can share: Violet lives. And twenty minutes will have lapsed between the last frame of the finale and the first frame of the premiere.

Question: I loved Addison and Noah on Private Practice. I know Josh Hopkins is on Cougar Town now, but will he return to give closure to the storyline? —Jamie
Ausiello: Currently, there are no plans for Hopkins to return. Amanda Detmer, however, will be back as his wife.

Question: Heard through the Twitter grapevine that you are talking to Supernatural creator Eric Kripke. Please ask him if we are ever going to find out more about Ruby’s knife? Like how it was made, by who, or why it can kill demons. —Vanessa
Ausiello: “I don’t think I’ll ever give up the back story of how that knife got its powers,” Kripke responds. “I like to leave some things mysterious. And that’s likely to remain mysterious.”

Question: Ask Eric Kripke if the Colt pistol is ever going to make a comeback on Supernatural. We never saw it destroyed and it seems like it would be pretty handy in a demon war. —Wesley
Ausiello: Good news. “The Colt pistol is making a comeback,” Kripke declares. “I was actually in the [writers] room today breaking episode 10 and the cult pistol is in episode 10. And it also pops up a little bit earlier as well. The cult emerges as the boys’ best strategy to shooting the devil in the face.”

Question: Any chance that we’ll see Jeffrey Dean Morgan again on Supernatural? —Barbara
Ausiello: Yes, there’s a chance. “I would love to have him back,” says Kripke. “But he is an in-demand actor. It’s all about scheduling. It’s [in the hands] of men who wear ties.” Hey, I sometimes wear ties. Consider this a done deal, Barb!

Question: Any casting news on Scrubs? —Jonathan
Ausiello: Yes! Kidnapped’s Michael Mosley and relative newcomer Kerry Bishé have just been tapped to play med students.

Question: Last week we were promised a boatload of NCIS spoilers. All we got was one about Gibbs’ boat. WTF? —Alyssa
Ausiello: And that one wasn’t even accurate! I erroneously quoted exec producer Shane Brennan as saying that Gibbs would be measuring his basin in an upcoming episode. He actually said he’d be measuring his basement. In my defense, Brennan has one of those funny accents.

Question: Is Gibbs ever going to date again on NCIS? —Alyssa
Ausiello: Date? Yes. Marry? No. “He’s had two or three wives too many,” says Brennan. “A relationship that would take him to the precipice of marriage is probably not in the cards.”

Question: Will Cyndi Lauper’s psychic turn out to be Sweets’ birth mother on Bones? —Jeannette
Ausiello: That’s a negative. A better question is whether she’ll turn out to be mine. You gotta admit the resemblance is uncanny.

Ausiello: Marc Cherry tells me that he worked out a “cool situation” with Shawn Pyfrom that both grants the actor’s wish to pursue other projects and ensures that Andrew doesn’t vanish without a trace. It’s basically called being bumped to recurring. “He wanted more freedom [so] we [hammered out] a smaller episode order with him,” he says. “I don’t ever want to say goodbye to him completely. He’s a beloved figure around here.”
