Matthew McNulty: 'I hated Eric Cantona'

Matthew McNulty has admitted that he hated co-star Eric Cantona when he played for Manchester United.

The Little Ashes star, a fan of United's local rivals Manchester City, told DS that he had to put his feelings to one side when starring alongside the former footballer in upcoming movie Looking For Eric.

McNulty said: "I'm a City fan. It was difficult, it was harsh! Because there's a United theme throughout it. I just had to kind of get over that and I did. But it's a good film so it was well worth breaking my rules!

"As much as I hated Cantona as a player, I think to work with him was great. It was just a great film from an actor's point of view, because there's no director like Ken Loach for giving actors freedom."

He added: "Ken doesn't work in a conventional way. For him it's not about the aesthetic of the shot, it's about the reality of the performance and the situation."

Pattinson 'will attract people to Ashes'

Matthew McNulty has said that the presence of Robert Pattinson in the lead role of new Salvador Dalí biopic Little Ashes will attract people to the film.

The actor, who plays filmmaker Louis Buñuel in the movie, told DS that he was not concerned that it would be overshadowed by the Twilight star's nude and sex scenes.

McNulty said: "If people want to judge [the film] before they've actually seen it and judge it on the fact that there's a teen heartthrob playing the lead then that's more fool them.

"I think that the film has got the merit of its own through it's writing and and the cinematography, so hopefully word of mouth will dispel any of that."

He added: "A lot of people that will now see this film because of Rob Pattinson will be able to form a fresh opinion of surrealism."

McG: 'T5' may take place in present day

McG has revealed that the proposed sequel to Terminator: Salvation may take place in the present.

"John Connor is going to travel back in time and he's going to have to galvanise the militaries of the world for an impending Skynet invasion. They've figured out time travel to the degree where they can send more than one naked entity."

The filmmaker also said that the futuristic machines known in the film series as hunter killers, transports and harvesters will do battle with modern-day military war machines.

McG added that he would feature former T-1000 Robert Patrick in the fifth film as a scientist doing stem-cell research.

Terminator: Salvation is released in the US on May 21 and the UK on June 5.

Daniel Craig offered 'c**p' scripts

Daniel Craig has reportedly criticised the quality of scripts that he is offered.

The Quantum Of Solace star said that he is unhappy with some of the projects suggested to him, according to STV.

The actor insisted that his portrayal of 007 has afforded him more film opportunities but many of the scripts coming his way are not of a high enough standard for consideration.

He said: "I do get more offers. Or at least I get to see more scripts. But they're just as c**p as they were before. There are only so many good scripts out there, genuinely."

Craig added that he has no plans to start up his own production company in order to ensure securing the roles that he wants to play.

"If I was going to produce a film, then I'd form one. But it sounds like I'd need an office. I didn't get into acting to have an office," he said.

Cave Gladiator sequel 'worked very well'

Ridley Scott has said that Nick Cave's controversial screenplay for a sequel to the Oscar-winning Gladiator was a fine piece of storytelling.

Cave, who is best known as a musician but also wrote the award-winning script for The Proposition, was approached by Scott and star Russell Crowe to work out how to follow on from the 2000 epic.

Scott told UGO: "We tried. Russell didn't want to let it go, obviously, because it worked very well. I mean, when I say 'worked very well', I don't refer to success. I mean, as a piece it works very well.

"Storytelling, he works brilliantly. I think he enjoyed doing it, and I think it was one of those things that he thought: 'Well, maybe there's a sequel where we can adjust the fantasy and bring him back from the dead.'"

Reviews of the completed screenplay have appeared online, revealing a story of Crowe's Maximus being brought back to life after meeting with the Roman gods.

Crowe called Cave's work on the proposed movie "one of the best scripts I've ever read".

Slade apologises for 'Twilight' remarks

David Slade has apologised to Twilight fans after making disparaging remarks about the vampire franchise.

The director, who is set to helm the third instalment Eclipse next year, had reportedly revealed his disregard for the series in an interview last November.

Discussing going to see the film, he wrote: "Twilight drunk? No, not even drunk. Twilight on acid? No, not even on acid? Twilight at gun point? Just shoot me."

In an email to Twilight Lexicon, he said: "When I made these comments, I had neither seen the film nor read the books. I was promoting a comedy short film...and every pop culture subject was seen as a possible comedy target."

He went on to say that he was "being silly" and that he appreciated the "rich storytelling and the beautifully honest characters that Stephenie Meyer created".

Slade added: "I would like to reassure everyone involved that I am invested in making the best film that I am humanly capable of, and that I am acutely aware of the power of the original books we serve."

Eclipse is scheduled for release in summer 2010. New Moon, the second instalment in the saga, will arrive in cinemas this November.

'Family Guy' movie 'in early stages'

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has revealed that 20th Century Fox are "in the early stages" of turning the animated TV comedy into a feature film.

Speaking to Wired, MacFarlane admitted that he already has a story idea for the big screen spinoff.

"We want to do it," he said. "Fox wants it. We know what we want to do with it. It's just a question of finding the time. That's why The Simpsons took so many years to do theirs. It wasn't because they didn't know what they wanted to do with it. They just couldn’t fit it into the schedule."

MacFarlane added that the workload for an animated show is "twice as much as you have to do for live-action".

"We're finding time where we can," he said. "We're in the early stages right now."

No 'Barbarella' remake for Rodriguez

Robert Rodriguez has revealed that his proposed remake of Barbarella will not come to fruition.

The director admitted that he was forced to find funds for the movie after Universal Studios balked at the $80 million price tag, according to Total Film.

He said: "It came to the point where a company from Germany offered us a $70 million budget, which would have been by far the biggest budget I would have ever had for a movie."

However Rodriguez said that he was not willing to separate from his five children to film in Germany.

He also expressed his disappointment that his remake of the 1968 Jane Fonda sci-fi vehicle, which was to star Rose McGowan, will never see the light of day.

"It was a really cool, R-rated, sexy, near heavy metal-style version of a Star Wars movie. Something that no one ever could get to see. It was gonna be really great," he added.

Rodriguez will now reportedly focus on other projects such as Machete, and also plans to release Barbarella’s concept artwork in book form.
