USA Network's Summer Lineup Features 9 Original Series, 8 Of Them Scripted

While the broadcast networks are largely retreating from original scripted programming this summer, leading cable network USA is prepping its largest original series summer slate with eight series: newbies Suits (aka A Legal Mind) and Necessary Roughness and returning shows White Collar, Covert Affairs, Royal Pains, Burn Notice, In Plain Sight and the the final season of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. USA will use its biggest shows, Burn Notice and Royal Pains, to launch its new series, Suits and Necessary Roughness, respectively. Additionally, the network's first reality series in five years, WWE Tough Enough, will continue to air on Monday, bringing the total of USA's original summer series to nine and its nights of originals to five. Interestingly, Friday, where USA launched its scripted assent, is staying dark. Network chief Jeff Wachtel had indicated that reclaiming the night was a priority. Missing from the summer schedule is veteran Psych, which won't return until the fall. Here is USA's original summer lineup with premiere dates (new series in bold):

8 PM WWE Tough Enough

9 PM WWE Monday Night Raw

TUESDAY (premieres June 7)

9 PM White Collar

10 PM Covert Affairs

WEDNESDAY (premieres June 29)

9 PM Royal Pains

10 PM Necessary Roughness

THURSDAY (premieres June 23)

9 PM Burn Notice

My god the numbers for the CBS Comedies suck plus I feel bad for Hawaii Five-O with that bad rating it got this week because Castle is getting a massive lead in thanks to Dancing With The Stars, I say move Hawaii Five-O to Tuesdays next season at 10 after NCIS & NCIS Los Angels and move The Good Wife to Friday at 8 followed by Blue Bloods & CSI NY

I also think Chuck, The Event & Law & Order Los Angels are all going to be axed as their ratings are falling badly.

TV CASTINGS: Three More Join Broadcast Pilots, 'Titanic' Miniseries Locks In Cast

Cynthia McWilliams, who is recurring on Fox's The Chicago Code, has landed a lead role on CBS' untitled sports radio show pilot. The multicamera comedy, from veteran writer-producers Bill Martin and Mike Schiff, is inspired by ESPN personality Colin Cowherd’s outspoken sports talk show. It centers on Nick (Damon Wayans), an egotistical sports-radio host with a quick wit and cocky likability. McWilliams will play his wife, the mother of two kids from a previous marriage and stepmom to Nick's son from his previous marriage. Formerly the owner of her own company, with an MBA, Megan has given up her career to be at home with the children -- and it's starting to get to her.

Rachel Fox, who was a regular on ABC's Desperate Housewives, has joined another CBS multicamera comedy pilot, Vince Uncensored, starring Michael Chicklis as Vince who, after brain surgery following an aneurysm, starts speaking his mind -- literally. APA-repped Fox will play his youngest daughter.

Shirley Rumierk has landed the last regular role on ABC's Tim Allen/Jack Burditt comedy pilot starring Allen as guy fighting for manhood in a world of women.

ABC, which recently announced a deal for producer Simon Vaughn's internationally produced four-hour miniseries Titanic, today announced the cast of the project, set to begin production May 9 in Budapest, Hungary. The mini, from Nigel Stafford Clark and Julian Fellowes, a re-telling of the doomed voyage that weaves action, mystery and romance and features both fictional and historical characters, will star Linus Roache (Law & Order), Geraldine Somerville (the Harry Potter films), Noah Reid (Three Inches), Linda Kash (Cinderella Man), David Eisner (Flashpoint), Celia Imrie (Bridget Jones’s Diary), Toby Jones (Captain America), Perdita Weeks (The Promise), Lee Ross (Centurion), Jenna-Louise Coleman (Waterloo Road), Sophie Winkleman (Peep Show), Steven Waddington (The Tudors), David Calder (The World is Not Enough), James Wilby (Gosford Park), Antonio Magro (Little Dorrit), Dragos Bucur (The Way Back), Stephen Campbell Moore (Ben Hur), Lyndsey Marshal (Hereafter), Mark Lewis Jones (Robin Hood), Ruth Bradley (Primeval), Peter McDonald (The Damned United) and Sylvestra Le Touzel (Amazing Grace). Jon Jones will direct the mini, slated to premiere next year, which marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the HMS Titanic.

HBO Greenlights Comedy Series 'Veep' Starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus

EXCLUSIVE: Julia Louis-Dreyfus is returning to primetime, this time on cable. HBO has picked up to series Veep, the D.C.-set comedy pilot from British comedian, writer and director Armando Iannucci, which stars the Seinfeld alumna. Set "very near the White House," Veep centers on former Sen. Selina Meyer (Louis-Dreyfus), who becomes Vice President only to discover that the job is nothing like she expected and everything everyone ever warned her about. Co-starring in the project are Anna Chlumsky as her chief of staff, Tony Hale as her right-hand man and Sufe Bradshaw as her assistant as well as Reid Scott, Tim Simons and Matt Walsh. Iannucci co-wrote and directed the pilot. He executive produces the series with Chris Godsick and New York Magazine's Frank Rich, who has a deal with HBO. Simon Blackwell, who co-wrote the pilot with Iannucci, co-executive produces, and Louis-Dreyfus serves as producer. Veep begins production this fall for a 2012 premiere.

This is the second consecutive female-centered comedy pilot ordered to series at HBO following the January pickup of the Lena Dunham pilot executive produced by Judd Apatow. Louis-Dreyfus has won two Emmys, one for NBC's Seinfeld and one for CBS' The New Adventures of Old Christine. She has had a presence at HBO with a recurring role on Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm, where she plays herself. HBO's latest series, fantasy drama Game of Thrones, premieres tomorrow night.

CBS Pulls 'Chaos,' Brings Back 'Flashpoint'

CBS has pulled midseason series Chaos off the schedule after three low-rated airings in the challenging Friday 8 PM time slot. The CIA dramedy most recently drew a 1.0/3 in 18-49 and 5.7 million viewers this past Friday. That was actually up a tenth in the demo from the previous week but way below what Medium and The Defenders were pulling in the slot earlier this season. For the next two weeks, CBS will air CSI: NY repeats in the 8 PM hour, with Canadian-made backup Flashpoint stepping in May 6 with originals. CBS fought hard to land Chaos in dramatic negotiations with producer 20th Century Fox TV that lasted a couple of months last summer.
