Watchmen' writer to direct 'Slaughter'

Watchmen writer David Hayter will make his directorial debut with Slaughter's Road, reports Variety.

Hayter penned the script, a werewolf thriller, which Thomas Dekker (Sarah Connor Chronicles) and Ray Stevenson (Rome) are circling to star.

The movie will come from Dark Hero Studios, a company Hayter formed with Benedict Carver to produce media with a genre slant.

Carver said: "David will create, write and direct movies and TV series for the company, but he'll also be a magnet for other writers and directors to work with us."

Hayter is also developing Demonology with Dark Hero, based on his own experience of going to school in Japan.

"It's about an American kid who goes to one of these schools in Belgium, but it brings my own horrible experiences of school to life," he said.

'Race to Witch Mountain' director races to another project

On the heels of a very successful opening weekend for Race To Witch Mountain, Walt Disney Studios has inked a deal with Mountain helmer Andy Fickman to direct Monster Attack Network, according to Variety. The adaptation is based on a 2007 AIT/Planet Lar graphic novel, about a team of first-responders who guard the citizens of a Pacific island that’s frequently attacked by giant sea monsters. The graphic novel was written by EW’s Marc Bernardin and Adam Freeman, and illustrated by Nima Sorat. "We're thrilled at the news," Bernardin tells EW.com. "The fact that Disney gave our book to one of their rising stars means that they're serious about making it the ginormous monster-attacking spectacle we always hoped it would be. Plus, it means they might actually make Monster Attack Network toys...which would just tickle me breathless."

Pattinson 'uncomfortable with sex scenes'

Robert Pattinson has confessed that he found it uncomfortable filming gay sex scenes for his upcoming movie Little Ashes.

The Twilight star plays a young Salvador Dalí in the forthcoming period drama, which details the artist's pre-fame relationships with director Luis Buñuel, and poet Federico García Lorca.

Speaking to GQ, he said: "In a lot of ways, I was kind of crossing lines of what I thought I was comfortable doing. I had to do all this naked stuff.

"Here I am, with Javier [Beltrán], who plays Lorca, doing an extremely hardcore sex scene, where I have a nervous breakdown afterward. And because we’re both straight, what we were doing seemed kind of ridiculous."

The 22-year-old, who admitted that he took the role before the success of Twilight, explained that he found it awkward filming the explicit scenes with the crew watching.

"There were all these Spanish electricians giggling to themselves," he revealed, adding: "And you know, I haven’t even done a sex scene with a girl, in my whole career."

Little Ashes is scheduled for limited release later this year.

Roberts: 'Paparazzi dilute magic of movies'

Julia Roberts has suggested that the public fascination with celebrities' personal lives has "diluted the magic" of movies.

Speaking to Moviefone, the actress claimed that the "insidious and pointless" tabloid interest in stars' everyday lives was damaging the enjoyment of the cinema.

"I think that takes away from getting to have this special moment where you go and see someone in a movie," she explained.

"That magic gets diluted because you see these people every hour, every day in something that's bound together and called a publication."

However, the Duplicity star admitted that she was happy to chat with reporters when the discussion was related to her work.

"In a situation like this where there's a movie I really enjoyed making, I am happy to talk about it," she said. "I just think it'd be nice if there were some clearer divisions of what people think is interesting."

Duplicity opens in the UK on Friday.
