Super! Wonder Woman Pilot Lands At NBC

Your (Diana) Prince may come after all, comic-book fans.

David E. Kelley’s Wonder Woman pilot has landed at NBC, just weeks after the high-profile project appeared to have stalled, Deadline reports.
Earlier this month, all the majors took a pass on the series, due to its being shopped around late in the game plus its presumably big-ticket price tag. But with the NBC-Comcast deal now done, the Peacock’s purse strings grew a bit looser.

Just last week, Kelley said that despite that brief hiccup, he and his team were “optimistic that we’re going to do it,” noting, “We’ve got a script that [Warner Bros. TV] and DC are very excited about.”

Kelley’s take on Wonder Woman presents Diana Prince as an L.A.-based “corporate executive and modern woman” also juggling her side job as a vigilante crimefighter, says Deadline.

Earlier this week, Kelley’s latest legal dramedy, Harry’s Law, premiered solidly for NBC.

Fox Picks Up 'Exit Strategy' Pilot Starring Ethan Hawke; Antoine Fuqua To Direct

Fox has handed a pilot order to the Ethan Hawke-starring drama Exit Strategy. Antoine Fuqua, who directed Hawke in his Oscar nominated performance in Training Day, is on board to direct the pilot, from 20th Century Fox TV and Kurtzman and Orci's 20th TV-based K.O. Paper Products. Exit Strategy, which is being written by David Guggenheim (Safe House), was originally set up at Fox in September with a put pilot commitment. After months of discussions, Hawke came on board in December to star and produce. He, in turn, invited Fuqua to direct the pilot. In addition to  Training Day, Fuqua directed Hawke in Brooklyn's Finest. Fuqua will also exec produce the pilot.

Described as a high octane procedural, Exit Strategy centers on a team of 5 experts associated with the CIA who are deployed when a CIA operation goes bad to extract the ones involved before it's too late. Hawke will play the team leader, the architect of exit strategy who also empathizes with the people they extract and would rather die than let them get hurt. Each episode will tackle a different crisis in a different country. Exit Strategy is envisioned as a potential successor to Fox's signature drama 24. Like 24, the action in Exit Strategy will also unfold in real-time. And like 24's Kiefer Sutherland, Hawke would segue from the feature world to take on the lead in Exit Strategy, his first series. Kurtzman, Orci and KOPP's Heather Kadin are executive producing the project, with Guggenheim co-executive producing. This is the second pilot order for Kurtzman and Orci this season. They're also behind Fox's Locke & Key.

Exclusive: Minka Kelly and Rachael Taylor Round Out TV's New Charlie's Angels

Minka Kelly and Rachael Taylor are close to putting on angel wings.

The Friday Night Lights alumna and the Transformers babe are nearing deals to play the remaining two titular private eyes in ABC’s Charlie’s Angels pilot. They join the previously cast Annie Ilonzeh (General Hospital) to form a new trio of sexy sleuths – Marisa (played by Kelly), Kate (Ilonzeh) and Abby (Taylor).

Producing studio Sony Pictures TV and Drew Barrymore’s Flower Films went through an exhaustive search for the three leads in this Angels series reboot. Kelly was a name the producers kept coming back to, and they are now reworking the role to tailor it to her. In the current breakdown, Marisa is described as a former U.S. Marine, a weapons expert trained in all forms of hand-to-head combat, and a neat freak.

Taylor’s Abby is the youngest and sassiest of the Angels. The beautiful and privileged daughter of a notorious Wall Street crook, she is an expert con artist herself, as well as a Krav Maga expert.

Kelly has kept busy since leaving FNL two years ago. Most recently, she has recurred on NBC’s Parenthood, which is produced by the same company as FNL, Imagine TV. She can next be seen on the big screen opposite Gossip girl Leighton Meester in the thriller The Roommate, opening February 4.

Taylor, meanwhile, starts a recurring role on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy next week, playing Callie’s obstetrician — and a possible love interest for Karev.
Smallville alums Alfred Gough and Miles Millar penned the script for the Charlie’s Angels pilot and are executive-producing with Leonard Goldberg (an EP of the original series), Barrymore and Nancy Juvonen.

The New Generation Of 'Dallas': Jordana Brewster Cast As Lead In TNT's Reboot

EXCLUSIVE: Meet the first new star of Dallas - Jordana Brewster has been tapped for a lead role in the TNT pilot, the first new cast member to join the reboot of the classic soap.

The pilot, from writer Cynthia Cidre and Warner Horizon, centers on the offspring of bitter rivals and brothers J.R. and Bobby Ewing - J.R.'s son, John Ross, and Bobby and Pam Ewing's adopted son, Christopher - who clash over the future of the Ewing dynasty while the fate of Southfork itself weighs in the balance. Brewster will play Elena, the gorgeous daughter of the ranch's cook who is locked into a love triangle with Christopher and John.

Brewster joins Dallas alums Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy who are set to reprise their roles from the original series as Bobby and Sue Ellen, respectively. After months of negotiations, fellow Dallas star Larry Hagman, who played the Machiavellian J.R., recently stated that he had verbally committed to the project but is yet to sign a deal, something that could happen next week. Hagman had been holding out for money, prompting the studio and the network to come up with a Plan B, with Cidre writing an alternative pilot script  in which Hagman’s J.R. is only represented through flashbacks from the original series. Brewster, repped by CAA and Management 360, has recurred on Chuck and Dark Blue and next reprises her role as Mia Toretto in the upcoming The Fast and the Furious sequel Fast Five.

Am I the only one who thinks this Dallas reboot idea is stupid.

ABC Family Greenlights 3 New Series - One Comedy And Two Dramas

New ABC Family president Michael Riley is making his first new series pickups today, ordering 3 new shows, the Raven Symone comedy The Great State of Georgia and 2 dramas, The Nine Lives of Chloe King and Switched at Birth. The orders to all 3 are for 10 episodes, including the pilot.

The Great State of Georgia, from ABC Studios, centers on Georgia (Raven Symone), an exuberant curvy performer from the south, and her science geek best friend Jo (Majandra Delfino) who try to make headway in New York City. The pilot was written by author Jennifer Weiner (In Her Shoes) and Jeff Greenstein (Desperate Housewives). This marks the return to sitcoms for Symone, who made her debut in the genre at age 2 on The Cosby Show. It also brings a companion piece to ABC Family's hot original sitcom Melissa & Joey.

Nine Lives is based on Alloy's Nine Lives of Chloe King series of 3 young-adult novels by Celia Thomson. Alloy Entertainment is producing the pilot, about Chloe King (Skyler Samuels), a teenager  with heightened abilities (super speed, agility, hearing…claws) who discovers she’s being pursued by a mysterious figure. Dan Berendsen (Hannah Montana: The Movie) penned the script and is executive producing with Alloy's Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo. This marks the second Alloy series on ABC Family along with hit Pretty Little Liars, which was recently renewed for s second season. Alloy had two hourlong pilots in the running, Nine Lives and The Lying Game. I hear that, while not picked up at this time, The Lying Game remains in contention, with ABC Family and Alloy looking at budget and other issues to make a series order possible.

Switched at Birth, written and executive produced by Lizzy Weiss (Blue Crush), is  a one-hour drama about two teen girls who discover that they were accidentally switched at birth. Bay Kennish grew up in a wealthy family with two parents and two brothers, while Daphne Vasquez, who lost her hearing as a child due to a case of meningitis, grew up with a single mother in a poor neighborhood. Things come to a dramatic head when both families meet and struggle to learn how to live together for the sake of the girls.

In its most aggressive development cycle to date, ABC Family last fall ordered 6 pilots, one comedy, Georgia, and 5 dramas. Surprisingly, among those not going to series is the drama pilot from Brenda Hampton, creator-executive producer of ABC Family's flagship series The Secret Life of the American Teenager.

Former Veronica Mars star Kristen Bell has been tapped for a lead role opposite Don Chaedle in Showtime's dark comedy pilot House of Lies. Bell joins previously cast  Dawn Oliveri as Marti's ex-wife, Josh Lawson as Ben Schwartz as his co-workers, Glynn Turman as Marty’s psychoanalyst father; and Donis Leonard Jr. as his young son. Jessika Borsiczky is executive producing the pilot, which will be directed by Stephen Hopkins. Production is slated to begin in February in New York and Los Angeles. NBC Picks Up 2 More Comedy Pilots

NBC has greenlighted two more comedy pilots, both from sibling Universal Media Studios. One hails from former Scrubs executive producer Tad Quill and one from former Saturday Night Live writer Emily Spivey, with SNL boss Lorne Michaels producing.

Bent, which Tad Quill wrote and is executive producing, is a single-camera romantic comedy about a recently divorced “type A” single mother who tries hard not to fall for the sexy “surfer-dude” contractor she hires to re-do her kitchen. The project stems from Quill's two-year overall deal with UMS.

The untitled Emily Spivey project, which has received a cast-contingent order, is a co-production with Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video.  It is described as an irreverent look at parenthood through the POV of an acerbic working mother, who never thought she’d be a mom, along with her stay-at-home husband and opinionated parents. Spivey, who now works on Parks & Recreation, wrote the script and is exec producing with Michaels.

ABC Picks Up Washington D.C. Drama

Add Josh Schwartz to the list of drama heavy hitters whose projects were picked up to pilot by ABC today. The network has greenlighted  Georgetown (formerly Inner Circle). The hourlong project, written by Remember Me scribe Will Fetters, is described as a sexy soap centered around the young people behind the power brokers of Washington, DC. It hails from Schwartz and Stephanie Savage's Fake Empire and Warner Bros. TV. Schwartz, Myers, Savage and Fake Empire's Len Goldstein are executive producing, with Fetters co-executive producing. Journalist Ashley Parker serves as consultant. This is Fetters' first foray into TV. On the feature side, he also wrote the Zach Efron starrer The Lucky One, which just wrapped, and his rewrite of A Star Is Born recently attracted Clint Eastwood as director and Beyonce as star.

CW Picks Up Four Drama Pilots

The CW got on the board today with its first pilot orders this season. The network has picked up 4 drama pilots, including Awakening, the spec script the CW bought just last week.

CW entertainment president Dawn Ostroff had made launching medical, legal and cop franchises on the network a priority and her pilot picks reflect that. Three of the 4 pilots are procedurals - one medical (Hart of Dixie), which comes from Gossip Girl co-creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, one police drama (Cooper and Stone), and one legal (Heavenly), which has supernatural elements. Additionally, zombie drama Awakening has a legal drama element, as the central character is a public defender. Here are descriptions of the 4 CW pilots:

Awakening, written on spec by William Laurin & Glenn Davis, centers on two sisters who come of age and face off against one another amidst the beginning of a zombie uprising. In centers on the older one, who is a public defender. Reveille is co-producing the pilot with Warner Bros. TV, where the script has been laid off. Laurin, Davis, Howard T. Owens, Carolyn Bernstein and Todd Cohen are exec producing.

Hart of Dixie, from WBTV and Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage's Fake Empire, is a comedic drama centered on a young New York City doctor who inherits a medical practice in a small Southern town inhabited by an eclectic and eccentric group of characters. Leila Gerstein penned the script and is exec producing with Schwartz, Savage and Len Goldstein. This is Fake Empire's second pilot this afternoon, along with Georgetown at ABC.

Heavenly, written by Richard Hatem, is from CBS Studios and Fineman Entertainment. It centers on a dedicated young female attorney and a former angel, Dashiel Coffee, only recently turned human, who tackle cases together at the attorney's legal aid clinic – she saves clients’ butts while he saves their souls.  As an angel, Dash never experienced feelings or emotions, and his “awakening” is a big part of the series, sometimes to hilarious effect. Hatem and Ross Fineman are exec producing.

Cooper and Stone, from writer-exec producer Laurie Arent and CBS TV Studios, is about two smart young female detectives on Chicago’s North Side who are best friends, equally adept at discussing fashion, music, pop culture as they are solving homicides.
