Woody Harrelson and Forest Whitaker join 'Out Of The Furnace'



Woody Harrelson and Forest Whitaker have joined the cast of Out Of The Furnace.

Deadline reports that Harrelson will play a crime boss in the Pennsylvania-set drama, with Whitaker taking the role of town sheriff Wesley Barnes.

Written and directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart), the film centres on two brothers played by Christian Bale and Casey Affleck, who find themselves gradually sucked into a life of crime.

Zoe Saldana has been cast as Bale's love interest, while Sam Shepard will play the brothers' uncle.

Harrelson has recently appeared in The Hunger Games and Rampart, and will next be seen in In Bruges writer-director Martin McDonagh's Seven Psychopaths.

Whitaker's upcoming projects include a role in Robert De Niro vehicle Freelancers.

Production reportedly began on Out Of The Furnace yesterday (April 13) in Braddock, Pennsylvania, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Ridley Scott among the film's producers.

Vince Vaughn for 'Rockford Files' big-screen remake?



Vince Vaughn has been tapped to star in a movie remake of The Rockford Files.

The Wedding Crashers actor is in line to portray the lead role of Jim Rockford in the cop comedy drama, originally played by James Garner.

Vaughn would also produce the project with sister Victoria Vaughn through their Universal-based Wild West Picture Show Productions if he took it on, reports Deadline.

The Rockford Files originally ran from 1974-1980, and followed private eye Jim Rockford who had spent several years in San Quentin jail before receiving a pardon. He later worked out of his mobile home in Malibu beach while solving cases.

NBC had planned to produce a TV remake of The Rockford Files for several years, with House creator David Shore and Lost actor Josh Holloway once linked to the production before it fell through.

Vince Vaughn recently signed up to reteam with Owen Wilson in comedy project Interns.

He will next be seen opposite Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill and Richard Ayoade in Neighbourhood Watch, which opens in the US on July 27 and in the UK on August 22.

Charlize Theron attached to 'Agent 13'



Charlize Theron is attached to star in Agent 13.

The Prometheus star will feature in Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt's forthcoming sci-fi film, reports Variety.

No plot details have been revealed for Agent 13. The highly anticipated pitch was devised by screenwriting newcomer TS Nowlin.

The project is yet to be acquired by a studio.

Theron will soon be seen in starring roles in both Prometheus and as the wicked queen alongside Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth in Snow White and the Huntsman.

Her role in 2011's Young Adult won Theron a Golden Globe nomination earlier this year.

Snow White will be released in cinemas on June 1, with Prometheus debuting on the same day in the UK and on June 8 in the US.

Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez in talks for 'Machete 2



Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez are in negotiations to join a sequel to Machete.

The actresses would reprise their roles from the Robert Rodriguez feature, which also starred Danny Trejo.

Both Alba and Rodriguez are close to signing on to the film, which will be called Machete Kills, according to Bloody Disgusting.

In the first film, Alba played an immigration agent who falls in love with Trejo's character Machete, while Rodriguez played a rebel leader named Luz.

The new film will centre on Trejo's character battling his way through Mexico in order to stop a weapons dealer from launching a powerful nuclear weapon.

Michelle Williams and Mel Gibson have been also been linked to starring roles in the movie.

Alba, who is gearing up to release her first book The Honest Life, may also be making an appearance in the recently announced Sin City sequel A Dame to Kill For.

Penelope Cruz poised for screen reunion with Javier Bardem



Penelope Cruz may reunite with husband Javier Bardem on-screen in Ridley Scott's The Counselor.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress is the frontrunner for a role in the drug drama, in which Bardem stars alongside Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt.

The couple first worked together in 1992's Jamon Jamon, and have collaborated several times since, most recently in Woody Allen's 2008 film Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Written by The Road author Cormac McCarthy, The Counselor centres on an attorney badly in need of money (Fassbender) who becomes involved in cocaine trading on the Mexican border. Bardem plays a rich friend with whom he joins forces, and the pair become involved with a "shady type" played by Pitt.

If cast, Cruz will play a love interest for Fassbender's character.

Cruz married Bardem in 2010 and gave birth to their first child the year after.

Robert De Niro talks 'Midnight Run', 'Raging Bull' sequels at Tribeca



Robert De Niro has confirmed that writing is underway on the planned Midnight Run sequel.

Speaking during a panel discussion at the Tribeca Film Festival on Thursday (April 19), De Niro explained that the follow-up to the 1988 action comedy would focus on his character helping the son of the criminal accountant from the first film.

The actor said of his character Jack Walsh: "He got himself in trouble. So that's where we are. The script is being reworked. I hope to do it - it was a lot of fun to do."

It was reported last month that director Brett Ratner is in negotiations to direct the sequel.

De Niro, who founded the Tribeca Film Festival in 2002, is currently in talks to join the cast of the upcoming CBS show Last Vegas.

The panel, mediated by director Judd Apatow, was in honour of the 100th anniversary of Universal Studios.

Apatow and De Niro talked about several of the veteran actor's Universal movies including Mean Streets, King of Comedy and Raging Bull, which De Niro said he would return to if the "script was good".

Iron Man 3': Guy Pearce in final talks to play Aldrich Killian



Guy Pearce is reportedly in final talks to join Iron Man 3.

He is on the verge of taking the role of geneticist Aldrich Killian in the film, Variety reports.

In Warren Ellis's six-issue Iron Man: Extremis comics, the Killian character co-creates a powerful Extremis serum and releases it to terrorists.

The third instalment of the Iron Man series will shoot in Wilmington, North Carolina, with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang director Shane Black taking over from Jon Favreau.

Robert Downey Jr will again take the lead role of Tony Stark. It has been reported that Scarlett Johansson will return as Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff, who was an assistant to Stark in Iron Man 2, and that Sir Ben Kingsley is likely to play the role of the villain.

Mark Ruffalo has also suggested that he might appear in the guise of Bruce Banner.

Pearce will appear this summer as Peter Weyland in Prometheus, which is scheduled for release on June 1 in the UK and June 8 in the US.

Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder: 'I'd be up for Fifty Shades of Grey'



Ian Somerhalder has revealed that he would love to star in the movie adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.

The rights to the erotic novel, which was written by EL James, were picked up by Universal and Focus after a bidding war

Somerhalder has now revealed that he'd love a role in the movie while speaking with Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show.

The Vampire Diaries star said that he could "potentially" be in the running for the role of Christian and added: "I absolutely would be up for that... It could be amazing. It could be very, very amazing."

Somerhalder, who said the role would be a "phenomenal opportunity", revealed that he has just started reading the book and continued: "That would be a pretty incredible thing and hopefully that could pan out."

However, he refused to say who should play the female lead Ana in the movie, joking: "My wheels, they're not turning, they're spinning! There are so many phenomenal actors right now... You know what I'm going to do, Ryan? I'm going to think about that, I'm going to put that in a card."

Hunger Games' Jennifer Lawrence to star in Jeannette Walls adaptation?



Jennifer Lawrence is in talks to star in the film adaptation of gossip columnist Jeannette Walls's memoir The Glass Castle.

Lionsgate has purchased the rights to the book and has brought in Marti Noxon to write the screenplay and The Blind Side's Gil Netter to produce, reports Deadline.

The Glass Castle: A Memoir tells the story of Walls, from her unconventional childhood due to her parents' deeply dysfunctional lifestyle, to how she removed herself from that lifestyle as a young adult.

After it was published in 2005, Walls made history when The Glass Castle stayed on The New York Times' bestseller list for over 250 weeks.

Lawrence previously starred in another Lionsgate movie based on a book, The Hunger Games.

The Hunger Games slid to third place in the US box office over the weekend, as new releases Think Like a Man and Zac Efron's The Lucky One took the top two spots respectively in the US box office.

Sean Penn in talks for Ben Stiller's 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty



Sean Penn may join the cast of the remake of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Penn is in talks to play "a small but pivotal supporting role", reports Deadline.

Directed by Ben Stiller, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty follows a "timid magazine photo manager" (Stiller) who hunts for a missing negative.

The comedy also features Kristen Wiig, Adam Scott, Shirley MacLaine and Patton Oswalt.

Earlier this year, the Tree of Life actor was named the official ambassador to Haiti by the country's foreign minister Laurent Lamothe.

"I do accept," Penn said when awarded the honour at a Cinema for Peace benefit in California. "[It will make a good] change being called, 'Hey you [expletive]', to 'Hey Mr Ambassador!'"

Haywire' star Gina Carano in talks for 'Fast & Furious 6'



Gina Carano is in talks to join the cast of Fast & Furious 6.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the martial arts fighter-turned-actress, who recently starred in Steven Soderbergh's Haywire, could join Dwayne Johnson in the action franchise's sixth instalment.

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker will reprise their roles alongside Johnson, and Carano - if cast - would play an ally to Johnson's Agent Luke Hobbs. Helmer Justin Lin and scriptwriter Chris Morgan will both return for their fourth time in the series.

It was recently reported that some of the film's scenes will be shot in the UK in Southend-on-Sea, Essex.

Johnson has confirmed that filming will begin in May.

Fast & Furious 6 is due for release on May 24, 2013.

Jessica Chastain back in talks for 'Iron Man 3'



Jessica Chastain is in talks to appear in Iron Man 3, it has been reported.

The Academy Award-nominated actress - who rose to fame as a result of roles in films such as The Help and The Tree of Life - is said to have returned to negotations, according to Deadline.

Chastain was offered a leading role playing a scientist billed as a match for protagonist Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr), the publication reports. However, she reportedly declined due to scheduling concerns.

She is currently working on Katherine Bigelow's Osama Bin Laden movie Zero Dark Thirty and is also attached to star alongside Joel Edgerton in double feature The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby.

However, the filming schedules for both projects are now said to have been worked out.

Chastain was recently named one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people of the year.

Downey Jr will next play Tony Stark/Iron Man in The Avengers, released on April 26 in the UK (under the title Marvel Avengers Assemble) and May 4 in the US.

Mel Gibson in line for 'Machete Kills'



Mel Gibson is close to signing on for Machete Kills.

The actor is in "serious discussions" for an appearance next to Danny Trejo, who will reprise his 2010 titular role, reports Deadline.

Gibson was rumoured to be in talks for the movie alongside Michelle Williams earlier in the month.

Rodriguez is in line to direct Machete Kills, but has admitted he may need to enlist another director if the filming clashes with Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

"Currently I am directing it," Rodriguez told The Hollywood Reporter.

"But we're checking to see if there's going to be the need for another director if I have to go off and do Sin City... But Machete looks like it's going to go pretty quickly, so it's possible that I will direct the whole thing."

Rodriguez continued: "There's so much of it that I want to direct I'll probably end up directing the whole thing, but if I have to step off, I'm going to try and shoot all of the actors and all of the main sequences.

"It's such a fun movie, and it just came out even more fun than I could have imagined."

The original Machete also starred Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Steven Seagal and Michelle Rodriguez. Only Trejo has been confirmed to return for the sequel so far.

Owen Wilson makes action movie return in 'The Coup



Owen Wilson is to star in a new action drama called The Coup, it has been reported.

According to Deadline, the film centres on Wilson, an American who relocates his family to Southeast Asia and becomes entangled in a violent coup.

Sources close to the film say that it has the tone of Liam Neeson's 2008 hit Taken, marking Wilson's first return to the action thriller genre since Behind Enemy Lines.

Devil director John Erick Dowdle is set to helm the project, and has co-written the script with brother Drew Dowdle.

Producers Adam Ripp and Rob Paris have said of the upcoming film: "We love the relentless energy of the Dowdle brothers' script - and their vision for dropping Owen in the midst of the chaos is truly inspired."

Wilson is gearing up to film the comedy You Are Here opposite Zach Galifianakis and Amy Poehler.

He recently starred in the critical and commercial success Midnight in Paris, which earned an Academy Award for 'Best Screenplay'.

Tom Cruise 'Top Gun' sequel moving ahead, says Paramount executive



A sequel to Tom Cruise's hit action film Top Gun is officially in development, it has been revealed.

Rumours of a follow up tp the 1986 blockbuster emerged last year, with Cruise saying that a sequel will happen only if the script is good.

Paramount executive Adam Goodman confirmed that the project is officially in pre-production in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Talking about a possible fifth instalment of the Mission: Impossible series, Goodman said: "We'll likely make a Top Gun sequel with Tom Cruise first. Jerry Bruckheimer would produce, with Tony Scott returning to direct... All parties are moving ahead."

The Town writer Peter Craig has been tapped to write the script.

The original Top Gun starred Cruise as Maverick, a cocky fighter pilot opposite Val Kilmer and Kelly McGillis.

The movie also featured Anthony Edwards, who would later go on to star in ER, Tim Robbins and Meg Ryan.

Christina Ricci joins 'Smurfs' sequel



Christina Ricci has joined the sequel to The Smurfs.

The second instalment in the 3D family franchise will see Ricci play the new character of Vexi, an evil version of Smurfette (Katy Perry), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The first Smurfs movie was released last year. Directed by Raja Gosnell, it grossed over $550 million (£341 million) worldwide.

Neil Patrick Harris, Hank Azaria, Jayma Mays and Sofia Vergara starred in the film. Many of the actors are expected to reprise their roles in the sequel, while Gosnell will return to direct.

Ricci has appeared most recently opposite Robert Pattinson in Bel Ami, and stars in the ABC series Pan Am.

The actress recently spoke out about her turbulent younger life, dubbing her 20s as "a hurricane".

The Smurfs sequel is due for release in the US on July 31, 2013.

Josh Duhamel in 'Safe Haven' talks



Josh Duhamel is in negotiations to star in Safe Haven.

The Transformers star will take the lead role in Salmon Fishing in the Yemen director Lasse Hallström's adaptation of Nicholas Sparks's novel, reports Variety.

Safe Haven centres around a mysterious young woman who struggles to fit into the small North Carolina town to which she relocates.

She soon finds welcome and comfort in the arms of a widowed storeowner and father of two young children (Duhamel).

Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightley have both been linked to the female lead, but the role currently remains vacant.

Sparks's previous novels The Notebook, The Last Song, Nights in Rodanthe, Dear John and The Lucky One have all been adapted into movies.

Duhamel was last seen in New Year's Eve. He is expected to confirm his role in Safe Haven once a female lead has been found.

Safe Haven is scheduled for release on February 8, 2013.

James Bond confirmed for 2014 outing



James Bond's next outing has been confirmed for 2014.

Sony Pictures has confirmed that it is planning a 24th Bond film to follow the forthcoming Skyfall.

President of worldwide distribution Rory Bruer revealed the plans for the next movie during a screening of a teaser trailer for Skyfall at CinemaCon, reports ComingSoon.net.

The trailer revealed a series of quick-cut sequences from star Daniel Craig.

It also featured Judi Dench and Ralph Fiennes, but co-star Javier Bardem was not in evidence.

The teaser reportedly concludes with Craig saying: "Some men are coming to kill us. We've got to kill them first."

Craig has said that he intends to continue in the role of the famous spy until he is told to stop.

Directed by Sam Mendes, the 23rd Bond movie Skyfall is due to hit cinemas on October 26, 2012. The first theatrical trailer for the movie is expected next month.

Will Smith, Denzel Washington eyed for 'Uptown Saturday Night' remake



Warner Bros is hoping to cast Will Smith and Denzel Washington in a remake of the 1974 comedy Uptown Saturday Night.

Anchorman director Adam McKay is in talks to take charge of the new project, Deadline reports.

The new version of Uptown Saturday Night has been penned by This Means War writer Timothy Dowling.

The original '70s comedy tells the story of two men trying to recover a winning lottery ticket after an armed robbery at an illegal nightclub. It starred Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier, along with Harry Belafonte and comedian Richard Pryor.

If the deal goes through, McKay will direct the film after completing the recently announced sequel to Will Ferrell's Anchorman.

Smith and Washington are the number one choices to take on the Cosby and Poitier roles, though it is not known at what stage of negotiations the two stars are at for the project.

Washington is also being eyed for a remake of the 1985 drama The Equalizer.

A third instalment of the Men In Black franchise is set for release this summer, starring Will Smith opposite Josh Brolin.

'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' sequel moving ahead



The Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel will go into production before the end of summer 2012.

20th Century Fox co-chairman and chief creative officer of Fox Filmed Entertainment Tom Rothman confirmed that the movie has been given the go-ahead at the studio's presentation at CinemaCon.

It was included on a list of films which are due to start imminently, ComingSoon.net reports.

The Wolverine, Steven Spielberg's Robopocalypse and the Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson-starring Shawn Levy comedy The Internship were also revealed to be entering into production shortly.

The first two films are already confirmed for summer 2013 releases, although it is yet to be revealed when Planet of the Apes 2 will arrive in cinemas.

Director Rupert Wyatt is not confirmed to be returning to the franchise.

Star Andy Serkis has signed on for the sequel, but filming will have to fit around his Hobbit schedule.
