Journey 3' moving ahead at New Line Cinema

Journey 3 is to enter production at New Line Cinema, according to director Brad Peyton.

The helmer confirmed that he will oversee a third entry in the series following the box office success of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.

"I grew up a fan of [Jules] Verne, so I know a lot about the mythologies," Peyton told The Hollywood Reporter. "Mysterious Island was one of eight or nine really seminal works. I know we've just scratched the surface of what we can do.

"This one's going to be a lot bigger. We're going to go to a completely different world. It's just going to be a bigger experience, and we're going to grow the mythology. Journey 2 was about rebooting a franchise; now it's about making the seminal work in the franchise."

Writers Brian and Mark Gunn are also said to have agreed deals with New Line to return to the series, but there is no word on whether any of the cast of Journey 2 will reprise their roles.

Josh Hutcherson led the cast of the sequel, with Michael Caine, Dwayne Johnson, Luis Guzman and Vanessa Hudgens in supporting roles.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island opened in cinemas on February 10. The film has grossed more than $275 million (£175m) worldwide.

Brad Bird: 'I'd love to make The Incredibles 2'

The Incredibles writer-director Brad Bird has expressed interest in making a sequel to the Pixar film.

Speaking to IFC, the Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol helmer said that he would "love" to revisit the super-powered family providing he can come up with a strong enough story for a follow-up.

"I would not say no to [The Incredibles 2], because I really love that world and I love those characters. If I can figure out a complete thing - you know, I have a lot of ideas that I love - but the whole story, I haven't got it yet," Bird said.

"But if I can do that and make something that was to Incredibles what Toy Story 2 was to Toy Story, I would love to do it."

Bird's sentiments echo comments he made to Digital Spy last year, when he revealed that a potential sequel is dependent on him devising a plot of the same calibre as the Toy Story films.

However, Incredibles 2 is unlikely to enter production any time soon, as Bird has pledged his immediate future to live-action filmmaking.
