Aaron Eckhart lands lead in 'I, Frankenstein

Aaron Eckhart has landed the lead role in a film adaptation of the graphic novel I, Frankenstein.

Deadline confirms that the Dark Knight star has been cast as Adam Frankenstein in writer-director Stuart Beattie's adaptation of the Kevin Grevioux story.

"Mary Shelley's story is about the creation of the first human being," Beattie said following the announcement. "This is the story about that being becoming human."

"This story is all about what it means to be human, and there could be no more achingly human performance than the one Aaron gave in our own Rabbit Hole," Lionsgate co-chief operating officer Joe Drake added. "We are so excited to see what he will bring to this role."

I, Frankenstein follows Frankenstein's monster, who has miraculously survived to the present day thanks to a rare genetic quirk, and who soon becomes embroiled in a clan war.

Lionsgate will distribute the film in the US, while Lakeshore Entertainment will handle the international release.

Eckhart will next be seen opposite Johnny Depp in Bruce Robinson's adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson's The Rum Diary.

I, Frankenstein will begin filming in January 2012, ready for release on February 22, 2013.

Bryan Cranston: 'Total Recall remake will be better'

Bryan Cranston has said that the remake of Total Recall will be better than the 1990 original.

The Breaking Bad star revealed that he does not think it will be difficult for the updated version of the sci-fi movie to stand out.

"I don't think there is much of a challenge at all," Cranston told New York Magazine. "I think the script is better. We certainly have a tremendous upgrade in our lead actor."

He explained: "That is less of a comment on Arnold [Schwarzenegger] and more of a comment on Colin [Farrell]. The special effects over the last 20 years have grown exponentially, so that is going to be a heightened experience.

"And I just think it is an exciting movie," Cranston concluded. "You know it's going to entertain - I can guarantee you that."

In June, Cranston recently revealed that his take on the Total Recall character Cohaagen will be different to the original portrayal in the 1990 film.

Meanwhile, Farrell said that the remake will be much "darker" in tone and less camp than the original.

Total Recall is scheduled to be released in cinemas on August 3, 2012.

Scream' originals to be killed off in next entry?

Wes Craven has suggested he may kill off one of the original three Scream characters in the proposed fifth instalment of the slasher franchise.

All four films in the series have starred Neve Campbell as protagonist Sidney Prescott alongside David Arquette as Dewey Riley and Courteney Cox as Gail Weathers. However, Craven has said that he is considering getting rid of one of them in the next film.

"At some point I suggested perhaps we should [kill one of them] to sort of send it into the next era, this era," Craven explained to IGN Movies. "And I think it was Bob [Weinstein] that just didn't want to do it.

"And I wasn't anxious to have [Sidney] dead because frankly, she's a great actress," he continued. "But I suspect the next time out, one or more of those characters is going to have to die."

Craven has previously confirmed that a fifth Scream film is in the works, but has said that he is in no rush to get started on it.

Judge Dredd': Director removed from movie during post-production

Judge Dredd's director has been removed from post-production on the movie adaptation by its producers.

Pete Travis (Vantage Point) has not been involved in the current editing phase of the movie, reports Los Angeles Times.

Sources have claimed that writer-producer Alex Garland has taken the lead after producers and executives were displeased by the footage that Travis was delivering for the Karl Urban-starring film.

It has been suggested that Garland might receive a co-director credit for his work at this stage of Judge Dredd's development.

There is also a possibility that the movie may require some reshoots before its completion.

The Judge Dredd character is one of the most popular properties from long-running British anthology comic 2000 AD.

It was subject to a critically-panned movie adaptation starring Sylvester Stallone in 1995.

Terminator: Salvation' McG admits mistakes, teases director's cut

Terminator: Salvation could get a director's cut, according to its director McG.

The reboot of the Terminator series starring Christian Bale was widely panned by critics upon release.

McG told Collider: "We did the best we could. I poured everything I had into that picture.

"Yeah, there's some outstanding footage out there, and we'll see if there's a director's release to come, in the future. You never know. Time will tell."

He continued: "I feel like we did a lot right with Terminator, and I feel like we did a lot wrong. I really tried to deliver and do the best I could, with making that film.

Former music director McG's films also include Charlie's Angels and its sequel Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.
