'Thor 2' To Be Scripted By Don Payne

As Deadline told you yesterday, Marvel Studios needs a director for Thor 2 with Kenneth Branagh departing, but they have got a writer. Marvel has set Don Payne, one of the credited scribes on the first film, to script the sequel. Payne rewrote Lobo for Warner Bros, and was one of the writers on Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer. His superhero experience started with My Super Ex-Girlfriend. Payne's also co-executive producer on The Simpsons, so there might be a laugh or two in between intergalactic mayhem. Chris Hemsworth is reprising his role as the hammer-swinging hero. The film will be released July 26, 2013 by Disney. Payne's repped by The Rothman Brecher Agency.

Beyoncé confirmed for Clint Eastwood's 'A Star Is Born

Beyoncé has confirmed that she will star in Clint Eastwood's upcoming remake of A Star Is Born.

The 4 songstress announced her casting as aspiring singer Vicki Lester while performing on today's edition of Good Morning America, as part of the ABC show's summer concert series.

"Clint Eastwood? Can you believe that?" she gushed. "I can't believe it still. When I met with him I was just in awe. I'm so, so honoured that he believes in me. And I can't wait to do this film.

"I represent this generation's talent and for me to be the chosen person, as an African American woman, is incredible."

Beyoncé's selection for A Star Is Born had been rumoured since January, while Leonardo DiCaprio was recently touted to play the film's male lead.

A Star Is Born, which tells the story of an ageing movie star who helps a young actress find fame, was first released in 1937 and has been remade twice in 1954 and 1976.

Beyoncé's character has previously been portrayed by Janet Gaynor, Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand.

A Star Is Born is due to begin filming this autumn with a release date set for 2012.

Snow White and the Huntsman' to be a trilogy?

The producer behind Rupert Sanders' Snow White and the Huntsman has revealed that the film will hopefully serve as the start of a new trilogy.

Joe Roth said that the reimagined fairytale adaptation will serve as a complete film in itself, but will also plant the seeds for two possible sequels.

"[Snow White and the Huntsman] is meant to be the first in a series of films," Roth told Entertainment Weekly. "This story will end, but there will be questions remaining for these three characters."

The film stars Twilight actress Kristen Stewart as Snow White, Thor star Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman and Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen.

Roth also teased some of the first concrete details about the film's plot, which sees the ambiguous Huntsman eventually turn against the Evil Queen and begin training Snow White to fight against her.

"We retain the basic story, a young girl meant to be the queen who is cast out," Roth explained. "The Huntsman is a mercenary. His job is to capture runaway girls, who are all fleeing the kingdom because of the Queen."

"He's not a nice guy, but not only that, he's someone who has lost hope and lost faith," the producer continued. "He has lost his wife, given up on everything."

Roth also revealed that Sanders and the film's producers had originally envisioned casting an unknown in the role of Snow White, as they did with Alice in Wonderland, but eventually went for the Twilight star instead.

"As we went through it, it just became evident to me that Kristen occupies a space in the universe where she's a terrific actress only known for one part," he added. "I hope this is a movie that will appeal to those who find Twilight appealing, but also [Stewart] is someone who has some p*ss and vinegar in her."

Snow White and the Huntsman is due out in cinemas on June 1, 2012.

Selena Gomez wanted for 'Sex and the City

Candace Bushnell has tipped teen pop singer and actress Selena Gomez for a role in the oft-rumoured Sex and the City prequel.

The author, who penned her first Sex and the City column back in 1994, said that she could easily see the Monte Carlo star playing Charlotte York in a prequel based on her novel The Carrie Diaries.

"I'm going to get in trouble for this, but I was looking at some pictures of Selena Gomez today and thinking she'd make a really good young Charlotte," Bushnell told the Daily Caller earlier this week. "She's so pretty. I was like... gosh, wouldn't she be great?

"Am I right or wrong? I'm not good at this. If I say something like that, then the next thing I know people are like, 'no!'"

Despite uncertainty over the future of the film franchise, Bushnell said that Sex and the City will definitely be back in one form or another.

"Definitely something on the screen," Bushnell teased. "Big or small screen."

Bushnell added she enjoyed both Sex and the City feature films and praised Michael Patrick King for his role in continuing the HBO series.

Both Sarah Jessica Parker and Kristin Davis have spoken of their disapproval regarding the idea of a prequel film.

G.I. Joe 2' to focus more on Snake Eyes

One of the producers behind G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes has confirmed that both Roadblock and Snake Eyes will have significant roles in the sequel.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura says that both Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson as Roadblock, and Ray Park as Snake Eyes, will have ample screen time in the new film.

'It's a full-on lead role. In a way, [Roadblock] and Snake Eyes, their stories are really dynamic and very important," Di Bonaventura told MTV News.

'[Johnson] is such a great character to have in G.I. Joe," he continued. "We would not be very good if we didn't fully utilise him, so he's going to have a lot of things to do."

The sequel will also focus significantly more on the ninja characters from the popular toy franchise, including the aforementioned Snake Eyes, along with the likes of Jinx, Blind Master and the expected return of Byung-hun Lee as Storm Shadow.

"The ninja fans are going to love it. There's a tremendous amount of it," di Bonaventura explained. "What's interesting is, we both have that going on in the Snake Eyes story, but we've found a way to bring that element into the Joes' story."

"I think anybody who's a fan of dark, in the middle of the night [action with] a dangerous foe arriving, this is a movie for you," the producer added.

The film will feature an ensemble cast including Channing Tatum, Ray Park, Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, RZA, D.J. Cotrona and Byung-hun Lee.

G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes is expected to open in cinemas on August 10, 2012.

Jason Statham to replace Shia LaBeouf in 'Transformers'?

Jason Statham could be replacing Shia LaBeouf in Transformers.

The movie series is expected to continue after the huge global box office success of the third film Dark Side of the Moon.

"One of the stars being mentioned is Rosie [Huntington-Whiteley's] boyfriend Jason Statham," Showbiz Spy quotes a source as saying.

"It's clear the franchise still has huge potential but with a new leading man capable of taking Transformers in a new, darker direction.

"Jason could be just the man to do that and his relationship with Rosie would be an added bonus in marketing the movie."

The Crank star admitted in January that he is happy to be an action star and would only consider a role outside of the genre if it was "interesting" enough.

LaBeouf revealed recently that he has "nothing left to give" to the franchise. He said: "I'm sure they'll make more of [Transformers] - it's still a very hot franchise. I'm not sure I have anything more to contribute."

Statham will next be seen in Killer Elite with Robert De Niro and Clive Owen.

Moneypenny has enjoyed a flirtatious relationship with Ian Fleming's secret agent during the spy franchise's history, but she was absent from Craig's Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.

Transformers producer Don Murphy discussed the future of the franchise on his message board. He wrote that he is certain another Transformers film will be made, TFW2005 reports.

"What happens next?" Murphy asked. "Certainly not a reboot. We haven't lost the Transformers... I don't know what happens next.

"I'm pretty sure there will be a second trilogy. I am pretty sure it will kick ass. And I am pretty sure some of you will hate it because it wasn't all bots."

It was recently rumoured that Jason Statham could replace Shia LaBeouf in the Transformers franchise to take the films in a new direction.

LaBeouf last week stated that he would have "nothing new to contribute" to any future Transformers films. However, he asserted that he is sure more movies will be made.

Three more actors have joined the cast of director Walter Hill's untitled action thriller, which stars Sylvester Stallone as a New Orleans hitman.

According to Variety, True Romance star Christian Slater, former Lost regular Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaj and Lights Out actor Holt McCallany have all signed up for the film.

Johnny Depp new movie 'In the Hand of Dante' finds director

Johnny Depp is to team up with Julian Schnabel for an adaptation of historical literary thriller In the Hand of Dante.

The actor's production company Infinitum Nihil bought the rights to Nick Tosches's book about Dante Aligiheri's The Divine Comedy in 2008.

Depp is not expected to start developing the film with Schnabel for another few years, according to The Playlist.

Schnabel, who directed the controversial Miral, told the site: "It belongs to Johnny, but I'm not going to make it for a couple of years.

"We're gonna work on writing it, developing it. We didn't sign anything. It's just something Johnny asked me to read and I think it's a great book."

Depp is planning to play the character of Nick Tosches, a rare books expert and scholar determined to find out whether a newly-discovered manuscript sold as an original work from Dante is the real thing, the site claims.

The narrative of the best-selling novel spans from 14th Century Italy to the present day.

Depp is reportedly considering signing up for a possible fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Arnold Schwarzenegger to film 'Last Stand' in September

Arnold Schwarzenegger is to begin shooting Kim-ji-Woon's Last Stand in September.

The actor-turned-politician put the project on hold in May after a scandal broke out about the lovechild he fathered with his housekeeper.

The western centres on a man who is forced to decide whether to have one last battle when disruptive strangers arrive in his town.

A Lionsgate studio executive told Deadline: "It's a property which a zillion directors fell in love with: the good, the bad, the weird.

"It's an old-fashioned Western specifically designed for a 63-year-old broken-down guy with a moral decision - whether Arnold decides to stand up for his town. We always needed an iconic figure for it."

Another industry figure said that Schwarzenegger's performance in The Expendables had "electrified" audiences, despite the fall-out from the star's personal life.

Liam Neeson was attached to the leading role before Schwarzenegger expressed an interest, the site claims.

Schwarzenegger is reportedly keen on meeting the child he fathered with Mildred Baena, following his wife Maria Shriver's decision to file for divorce.
