Kate Beckinsale offered 'Total Recall' role

Kate Beckinsale has been offered a role in the Total Recall remake.

The British actress, who is currently filming vampire sequel Underworld 4: New Dawn, would play Lori, the wife of Colin Farrell's Douglas Quaid.

Sharon Stone portrayed the character in 1990's Arnold Schwarzenegger-led version of Philip K. Dick's short story We Can Remember It For You Wholesale.

Total Recall remake helmer Len Wiseman is married to Beckinsale and directed her in Underworld and Underworld: Evolution.

Recent repots emerged saying that Jessica Biel had been offered one of the lead female roles in the sci-fi action movie, however, Deadline has claimed that Eva Mendes and Rosario Dawson are "the serious contenders" for the second part.

Alongside Lori, the story is expected to feature a resistance fighter called Melina who teams up with Quaid. Kate Bosworth and Eva Green were allegedly under consideration for the Sony Pictures blockbuster.

Bryan Cranston will star as Total Recall's villain Vilos Cohaagen.

Old Spice man confirms 'Luke Cage' talks

Isaiah Mustafa has been linked with the lead role in a movie based on comic book hero Luke Cage.

Speaking to Superhero Hype, the Old Spice ad star confirmed that he has met with Marvel to discuss the proposed film project.

"I've already had a meeting with Marvel. I talked to them and I told them that I was a gracious reader of their comics and that I wanted to be Luke Cage. So we'll see where they take it," he said.

The actor went on to say that the character's dedication to his home neighbourhood of Harlem is what makes the role appealing.

"Luke Cage has a lot going on. He's this man, he's got all these powers and abilities and he can use them to save whatever major city, but instead of doing that he uses them to help Harlem. He wants to fix his neighbourhood, and that's what's so admirable to me," he added.

"Instead of leaving and going someplace bigger, he stays right where he needs to be and tries to do the best that they can."

Last year, it was reported that Marvel Studios has plans for a Luke Cage movie, and was in preliminary talks with an unnamed actor for the title role. R&B singer Tyrese Gibson was previously linked with the part and John Singleton with the director's chair.

Marvel is yet to officially confirm that the character is heading for the big screen.

Universal Chooses Jeremy Renner For 'The Bourne Legacy

BREAKING: The search is over. Universal Pictures has formally offered Jeremy Renner the lead role in the Tony Gilroy-directed The Bourne Legacy. Renner, who has been nominated for Oscars the past two years for his work in The Hurt Locker and The Town, is expected to sign on quickly to play a new character in the spinoff film that begins production in September. Like the Jason Bourne character played by Matt Damon in the first three The Bourne Identity thrillers, Renner will play an operative from a covert government program that is even more dangerous than the Treadstone brainwashing program that hatched Bourne.

Renner was one of the names rumored as the studio went through two cycles of tests over eight weeks to find the right guy. That decision was made today. Even though Renner plays an operative in the upcoming Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol, the studio felt clearly that he was in a position similar to where Damon was when his career took off with Bourne. Renner is not a kid, but he is really hitting his stride and poised to become a big star after numerous strong performances.

The studio looked closely at a number of up and coming stars, and tested the likes of Joel Edgerton (The Thing), Dominic Cooper (The Devil's Double), Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy) and Luke Evans (The Amateur American). Other names in the mix included Taylor Kitsch and Anthony Mackie.

Iron Man 3' to be co-written by Black

Shane Black will reportedly both direct and co-write the upcoming Marvel Studios film Iron Man 3.

Earlier this month it was announced that No Heroics writer Drew Pearce had been hired to pen the film's script, surprising fans who had expected Black to both write and direct due to
his track record as a popular screenwriter.

However, according to Cinema Blend, Black will still be involved in the scripting process for Iron Man 3, working alongside Pearce.

A source claimed that Disney was worried about the director's track record with violent films and made the decision to split the writing duties between both Black and Pearce to ensure the film remains family-oriented.

Black was announced as the new director for Iron Man 3 in February, after previous director Jon Favreau dropped out of helming a third instalment in favour of taking on Disney's Magic Kingdom.

Iron Man 3 will reunite Black with lead actor Robert Downey Jr for the first time since the two worked together on Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in 2005.

Iron Man 3 is currently expected to hit cinemas on May 3, 2013.

Rambo', 'Glory' writer Kevin Jarre dies

Famed screenwriter Kevin Jarre has died at the age of 56.

The scribe behind Tombstone and the first editions of the Rambo and Mummy franchises passed away unexpectedly after suffering heart failure on April 3, his family told The Los Angeles Times.

The self-confessed "Civil War freak" also wrote the critically-acclaimed Glory, a drama about the historic conflict's first all-black volunteer company, which collected three Oscars in 1989 - including a 'Best Actor' award for Denzel Washington.

Jarre said of Glory at the time: "I never thought I could interest anybody in it. A Civil War epic, about black people? But I'd got really attached to the story... I'd end up in tears when I got through writing."

Other titles in Jarre's filmography include 1997 Brad Pitt thriller The Devil's Own and Bruce Willis actioner The Jackal, on which he served as a producer.

G.I. Joe' star confirms sequel return

Ray Park has confirmed that he will be reprising his role as Snake Eyes in the upcoming sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

It had previously been confirmed that Byung-hun Lee would be returning as Storm Shadow, while Channing Tatum is widely expected to reprise his role as Duke. However, Park had remained relatively quiet about his role in the film up until now.

"Good news all! As you might have guessed I'm coming back to play Snake Eyes for the sequel of G.I. Joe, directed by Jon Chu," Park tweeted earlier this week.

"Good script!" Park later added. "My hardcore workouts have begun! I can not wait!"

Original cast member Rachel Nicols sparked rumours of Park's involvement with the film last month, when she claimed that only three characters from the first film would be returning.

It was confirmed in February that Justin Bieber: Never Say Never director Jon Chu would helm the sequel for Paramount Pictures.

G.I. Joe 2 is expected to be released in cinemas on August 10, 2012.

I would prefer to see the whole cast return for the sequel.

Rob Kazinsky quits 'The Hobbit

Former EastEnders star Rob Kazinsky has quit his role in The Hobbit, it has been confirmed.

The actor had been cast as Fili in the films, which started production in New Zealand last month.

However, director Peter Jackson confirmed on Facebook that Kazinsky has left the J.R.R. Tolkien adaption due to "personal reasons". His role will be recast.

"I am sad to report that Rob Kazinsky, who was cast in the role of Fili, is having to leave The Hobbit and return home, for personal reasons," Jackson said. "Rob has been terrific to work with and his enthusiasm and infectious sense of humour will be missed by all of us.

"I should say that Rob's departure will not affect ongoing filming of The Hobbit, nor will it impact work done to date, as we had yet to film much of Fili's storyline.

"At the moment we are shooting scenes featuring Bilbo without the Dwarves, which will give us time to find a new Fili. I'll keep everyone posted with updates as they come."

Jackson recently confirmed that Sir Ian Holm would be returning as Bilbo Baggins.

Coogan: 'Alan Partridge movie to shoot in 2012

Steve Coogan has confirmed that the long-awaited Alan Partridge movie will begin filming next year.

The Trip comedian confirmed to The Playlist that work had begun on a script for the fictional TV and radio personality's first big screen outing, after his fellow writers agreed on a plot last July.

Commenting on the slow progress of the Partridge project, Coogan admitted: "We left it behind for a while, but we came back to it because we got a few ideas.

"We're writing it right now, going to shoot it next year. Don't know who will direct it, but Pete Baynham [Borat co-writer] and Armando Iannucci are writing it with me. We've already started it."

The faux-pas prone presenter made a one-off TV return this March for a special Red Nose Day episode of web-series Mid-Morning Matters.

Iannucci previously confirmed that the movie will be set in the character's home city of Norwich.

Josh Hartnett: 'I wasn't ready to be a star'

Josh Hartnett has stated that he didn't like being a celebrity in his youth.

The 32-year-old, whose indie romance Stuck Between Stations is being screened this weekend at the Tribeca Film Festival, confessed to consciously taking "a bunch of steps back" to protect his character after 2001 blockbusters Pearl Harbor and Black Hawk Down.

He told Entertainment Weekly: "I think that I kind of took a few steps back from Hollywood as soon as it all started to come my way because I wasn't quite ready for the attention. I didn't want to watch every word that I say. I wanted to develop naturally, so I just decided that being a quote-unquote "movie star" wasn't for me at that point in my life.

"Now I feel more comfortable with where I'm at... I'm not afraid of what people think of me, which is one of the major problems of having a bit of success in this industry when you're young.

"You see with a lot of people that they kind of go off the deep end. I wasn't going to allow that to happen to me, so I took a bunch of steps back."

Hartnett further teased that he was preparing to make a mainstream comeback with a forthcoming "big ol' thing in Hollywood".

On future projects, he cryptically commented: "There are a couple of things I might do: a little movie in New York, which I like to do, and then there's a big ol' thing in Hollywood, which I can't really talk about yet. I've just been getting reinvigorated creatively, lately, which is nice."

Hartnett was recently named as a candidate for the lead role in The Bourne Legacy, which this week went to Hurt Locker star Jeremy Renner.

I think Josh made a wise decision by taking a step back after those 2 massive action movie hits, I look forward to seeing his next big action movie.

Zach Braff: 'I want to do an action film

Zach Braff has confessed that he would love to star in a "smart" action film.

In an interview with PopEater, the former Scrubs star revealed that he is a big fan of movies like Inception which he believes are "smart" and have more substance than standard thrillers.

"I want to do a big action movie, one that has me rappelling down a mountain, or shooting an Uzi," he explained. "I'm kind of kidding, but I'm kind of not. I would love to do something smart. You know, a thriller or action film, like Inception or Adjustment Bureau, which I really liked.

"I want to do something that isn't just pure action, but has a smart adrenaline to it. It's not the first thing people think of me for, but I'd love to do it."

He also discussed his love for behind-the-scenes work, adding that he finds being behind the camera just as satisfying as being in front of it.

"You learn something from every [project]. Ideally, you take what you learn and go on to the next thing. The play I wrote [All New People], which is now going into production, has many parts of my experiences, screenwriting, music supervisor, actor, photographer," he said.

"It's a hokey analogy, but pretty accurate: It's like being a conductor of an orchestra. You get to bring all of these amazingly talented people together and then bring out their best."

I would not mind seeing Zach get a lead in an action movie at some point.

Joss Whedon: 'Avengers' production to start

Joss Whedon has announced that production on The Avengers will begin this week.

Writing on his official blog, the writer and director teased that the all-star film would get underway on Monday, although he decided not to divulge any further details.

"Tomorrow we start shooting (I THINK I'm legally permitted to say that). Day one. That's right (sic)," he posted on Sunday.

"We'll be shooting the pivotal death/betrayal/product placement/setting up the sequel/coming out scene, at the following address: [Marvel Lawyers rush in, take Joss's keyboard, blowtorch a picture of his family like in Stormy Monday, drink his milkshake, leave the seat up, fluff his pillows, violently unfluff his pillows, leave]. Went too far. My bad."

He went on to warn fans not to expect details about the shoot as it progresses, adding: "Anyhoo, it should be a fun day, followed by the eighty thousand other fun days it will take to finish this.

"I'll be checking in from time to time, if there's news or I crave attention (i.e. am awake). None of it will be Avengers news... but I may have tidbits."

Natalie Portman was recently rumoured to be reprising her Thor character Jane Foster in The Avengers, though the reports have not been confirmed.

The Avengers ensemble cast already includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, and Jeremy Renner.

'World War Z' Cast's 'The Killing's Mireille Enos As Brad Pitt's Wife

Paramount Pictures, once shaky about the prospects of the Marc Forster-directed zombie extravangza World War Z, is now on track to make the picture this summer. I'm told that Mireille Enos, star of the AMC hit series The Killing, is in talks to play Karin Lane, the wife of Gerard Lane, the character played by Brad Pitt in the adaptation of the Max Brooks book. In The Killing, she plays Sarah Linden, the homicide detective trying to solve the murder of Rosie Larsen. This will be the first major-studio starring role for Enos, who starred for three seasons on HBO's Big Love. She's repped by Innovative and Authentic.

There had been speculation that Paramount would not bite on the Plan B-produced WWZ because it has a $125 million budget. But as Deadline reported, the studio brought in a couple of risk-sharing partners that will include David Ellison's Skydance. That cleared the way for the movie version of the book that looks at the aftermath of a global zombie war 10 years after the conflict, with a researcher for the UN Postwar Commission interviewing survivors in countries that were decimated by flesh-eaters. It was thorough, and a thoroughly creepy read. Matt Carnahan wrote the script.

Tron Legacy helmer Joseph Kosinski is to direct new sci-fi thriller Archangel.

The filmmaker will be working from a script penned by The Gray Man writer Adam Cozad.

According to Variety, the project will centre on "a secret unit of the military that tracks and hunts down aliens among us".

Kosinski is still attached to Horizons, formerly known as Oblivion, and a sequel to Tron Legacy.

The film, which is expected to star Tom Cruise, had been held up because Disney were not keen to have it receive a PG-13 certificate.

Horizons will depict a post-apocalyptic world where people are forced to live in the sky because the earth is uninhabitable.
