Eddie Murphy 'won't do more Shrek films

Eddie Murphy has claimed that he has no interest in reprising his role as Donkey for a further Shrek sequel.

The actor voiced the wise-cracking sidekick for the original Dreamworks animated film more than a decade ago, and has since returned for three big-screen sequels, including last year's Shrek Forever After, and a series of televised holiday specials.

Speaking to TMZ, the former Saturday Night Live star dismissed the suggestion that a fifth feature film will be produced.

"No more Shrek," Murphy said. "I'm Shrek'd out."

He added: "We did five of them if you count the Halloween ones and the Christmas ones. [So that's] quite a bit of it."

Murphy went on to say that one of the reasons that the movies have been so successful is that the humour appeals to both children and adults.

While the comic may not be willing to return to the Donkey character, the Shrek series is to continue with the spin-off Puss In Boots, which is to be based around the popular character voiced by Spanish actor Antonio Banderas.

Puss In Boots is scheduled to be released on November 4 in US cinemas and on December 9 in the UK.

Bradley Cooper to star in 'Crow' remake?

Bradley Cooper is reportedly in talks to star in the planned remake of The Crow.

The actor would take on Brandon Lee's role as Eric Draven, the rock musician who comes back to life to avenge his and his fiancée's murders.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Limitless star and director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo have arrived at a "vision for the character and the film".

The remake will be produced by the same studio behind Limitless.

28 Weeks Later helmer Fresnadillo confirmed last week that he was taking over the reins, after Stephen Norrington unexpectedly pulled out.

The director of the original, Alex Proyas, dismissed talk of the remake when it was first proposed and said that he only completed the first film out of respect for Lee.

Lee, who is the son of kung-fu legend Bruce, died on the set of the 1994 film after a firearms mix-up.

Hugh Laurie to star in 'Mr Pip

Hugh Laurie has signed to star in a film adaptation of best-selling novel Mr Pip.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shrek 2 writer Andrew Adamson is writing and directing the film.

Lloyd Jones wrote the novel, which centres on a man who opens a school in war-torn Bougainville, Papua New Guinea and reads Great Expectations to his students.

"From the first words of the novel, and the first image of the screenplay, I was hooked on Mr Pip," said House star Laurie, who recently played a blues show at a small bar in New Orleans.

The actor continued: "It's an immensely touching, unique, yet completely unsentimental story of love. It is unlike any script I have read, or any story I have ever heard. Plus I get to go to Papua New Guinea and call it work. I am a very lucky man."

"I read Mr Pip on a transatlantic flight and, by the time of landing, knew I would make this film," Adamson said.

He added: "It's a testament to Lloyd's wonderful novel that it has captured the hearts of Hugh, [producers] Robin [Scholes], Leslie [Urdang] and an incredible group of like minded collaborators."

Laurie signed a deal earlier this year to record a blues album.

Vaughn wants 'X-Men: First Class' sequel

Director Matthew Vaughn has said that he hopes to make a sequel to X-Men: First Class.

Speaking to Total Film, Vaughn compared the movie to Batman Begins and said that First Class, which takes place in the early 1960s, could possibly have a follow-up in the vein of The Dark Knight.

"First Class is similar to Batman Begins, where you have the fun of introducing the characters and getting to know them, but that takes time," he said. "But with the second one you can just get on with it and have a rollicking good time. That's the main difference between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight."

He added: "1962 is far more grounded in the world of the '50s. I think it takes about five years for a decade to really start getting its identity, so the fun thing about this for me would be doing [a sequel] in the latter part of the decade, where you've got The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Flower Power…"

Producer Bryan Singer said that further X-Men sequels could take place in the 1970s and the 1980s.

"That's an idea that's been discussed. How the characters go through time. But only to a point - they can't age too fast," Singer said.

Star James McAvoy spoke about a possible journey that his character, Charles Xavier, could take in two possible sequels.

"In First Class he uses Cerebro for the first time and maybe it unlocks something in his head - maybe he can't keep the voices out or something," the actor said.

He continued: "So in the second movie his journey could be about getting himself out of a mess. And then in the third movie he becomes… Patrick Stewart [who played Xavier in the first three X-Men movies]!"

Rose Byrne, who plays Moira MacTaggert in the superhero film, recently confirmed that sequels for X-Men: First Class are a likely possibility.

X-Men: First Class opens June 2.

Clooney producing economic bailout drama

George Clooney has signed to produce a film about a US Treasury Department official assigned to become the federal economic bailout chief.

According to Variety, the project is based on a Washington Post article called 'The $700 Billion Man'.

The article tells the story of former US Treasury Department official Neel Kashkari, who left Washington for a small northern California town seven months after being appointed.

Kashkari helped to outline and implement the Troubled Asset Relief Programme (TARP), which set aside $700 billion as economic bailout funds in 2008.

Stranger Than Fiction writer Zach Helm is adapting the article for the screen, and Grant Heslov is co-producing.

Clooney, who recently blamed his troubled past for keeping him from getting involved with politics, could direct the picture as well as produce.

It was reported late last month that the actor might be called to provide testimony at Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's impending prostitution trial.

Singer: 'I'd cast Nicholas Hoult as Superman

Bryan Singer has revealed that he would cast Nicholas Hoult as Superman if he was given the opportunity to revisit the superhero series.

Singer helmed 2006's Superman Returns, a loose sequel to the 1978 Christopher Reeve original, but the franchise is now being rebooted with Henry Cavill in the lead role.

Asked how he would approach a new Superman movie, the X-Men: First Class producer told Total Film that he would go back and look at the character's early years.

"If I'm really honest, what I probably would have done is go back and retell the origin story with someone like Nicholas Hoult [playing Clark Kent/Superman]," he said.

"I would have done it differently from Richard Donner's original, which I love, but instead of doing a sequel I'd have started from the beginning - maybe I had that in the back of my mind and instead translated it to X-Men: First Class!"

Hoult, whose credits include Skins and A Single Man, will star as Beast in X-Men: First Class and also has the lead role in Singer's Jack the Giant Killer.
