'X-Men' VFX Wiz Tim Miller To Direct 'Deadpool

EXCLUSIVE: Tim Miller, who has done strong visual effects work on X-Men and other VFX-heavy films, was just set by 20th Century Fox to make his feature directing debut on X-Men Origins:  Deadpool, the X-Men spinoff film expected to star Ryan Reynolds. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are writing the script and Lauren Shuler Donner is producing. WME just signed him.

In X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Reynolds made his first appearance as Deadpool, also known as Wade Wilson, a smart-mouthed mercenary with terminal cancer who undergoes military experiments in an attempt to replicate Wolverine's mutant healing factor. He comes away with the ability to heal quickly, but for the price of being indestructible he is rendered severely scarred. His acerbic attitude remains, though, earning him the nickname "The Merc with a Mouth." Reynolds will next be seen starring as another superhero, Green Lantern, for Warner Bros.

Fox has the Matthew Vaughn-directed X-Men Origins: First Class coming out June 3. The Wolverine was expected to be the next one in production, but the studio and Hugh Jackman are looking for a new director after Darren Aronofsky fell out. That sequel's plan to shoot in the fall could be postponed.

Anthony Horowitz to write 'Tintin' sequel

Novelist Anthony Horowitz has claimed that he has been tapped to write a sequel to the upcoming film adaptation of Tintin, if Steven Spielberg's first film proves a success.

Horowitz, writer of the popular Alex Rider series of novels, said that he has been asked to write a sequel combining Hergé's classic Tintin stories The Seven Crystal Balls and Prisoners Of The Sun.

"As we speak I've been hired to write Tintin," Horowitz told Radio 5 host Richard Bacon. "They've got [The Chronicles Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn] coming out at Christmas, and if that film is a success and works and gets an audience I'm writing the sequel to it."

Horowitz also confirmed that the potential sequel would be titled Prisoners Of The Sun, which will be directed by Peter Jackson.

The writer was appearing on the show to promote Scorpia Rising, the final book in his Alex Rider series.

The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn will be released in cinemas on UK cinemas on October 26, and in the US on December 23.

I don't think I will ever understand how people can even consider doing a sequel to a movie when the first one has not even been released.

New Ice Cube project picked up by Disney

Walt Disney Pictures has reportedly picked up a new film project from rapper Ice Cube.

The film, called Chrome And Paint, has been described as a "gritty car culture project".

According to Variety, the film was originally intended to be R-rated, but certain elements will now be toned down to ensure that they fit in with Disney's branding.

Ice Cube, real name O'Shea Jackson, will direct the project and will produce alongside his CubeVision partner Matt Alvarez.

The rapper and actor will also serve as co-writer alongside Eva Vives, best known for her work on the 2002 drama Raising Victor Vargas.

Jessica Biel 'offered Total Recall female lead'

Jessica Biel is said to have been put forward for one of the lead roles in Len Wiseman's upcoming remake of the sci-fi classic Total Recall.

Variety claims that Sony have offered Biel one of the film's two lead female parts, although negotiations for the part in question have yet to begin.

If cast, Biel will either play lead character Douglas Quad's wife Lori, who is eventually discovered to be an undercover spy, or a resistance fighter called Melina who teams up with Quad.

In the 1990 original, Lori was played by Basic Instinct star Sharon Stone, while Law & Order: Los Angeles regular Rachel Ticotin played Melina.

Colin Farrell has already been cast as Douglas Quad, Arnold Schwarzenegger's role in the original, while Bryan Cranston will star as the film's main villain.

Previous reports have suggested that the likes of Eva Mendes, Kate Bosworth and Eva Green were all under consideration for the film's female roles.

I would say she is a better fit for the resistance fighter role.

Wes Craven 'to direct more Scream films'?

Scream 4 director Wes Craven has said that fans of the series should be open to the new characters in the franchise's fourth instalment.

The legendary horror director claimed that he was impressed by the way writer Kevin Williamson was able to interlink characters from the original trilogy with the new additions.

"Kevin [Williamson] was very clever in having Emma Roberts' character being connected to Sidney, so you have that link to the past," Craven told Shock Til You Drop. "But she's very much her own character with her own circle of friends.

"We beat the bushes for a while looking for people, extraordinary young actors," Craven explained, when asked how he chose the newest generation of Scream characters.

The director also hinted at his feelings towards the potential for fifth and sixth films in the franchise, admitting that he was cautiously optimistic about the possibility.

"To now be following these characters in their thirties is interesting," he said. "You don't want this series to dominate your life and you want to explore other avenues creatively, but to have participated in it this much is remarkable."

Scream 4 is due out in cinemas on April 15.

I would not mind seeing more Scream movies but only if the 4th one does well.

The Shaun Of The Dead director's co-writer Joe Cornish confirmed at this weekend's Kapow! Comic Con that a second draft of the superhero film had been completed.

Disney 'moving forward with Tron 3'

Disney is rumoured to have already begun work on a third film in the Tron film series.

Despite a lukewarm critical reception to last year's Tron: Legacy, it is believed that the $399 million secured by the film overall has convinced Disney to continue plans for a new addition to the franchise.

According to Deadline, Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski will assist in the construction of a sequel, along with returning writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz.

The report notes that it is currently uncertain as to when Kosinski will officially begin work on Tron: Legacy 2, noting that he is soon due to begin work on a remake of Black Hole.

It was suggested in January that Disney were close to announcing a new Tron film, and Kosinski himself recently admitted that he would be keen to return for a second outing.

Tron: Legacy was released on Blu-ray and DVD in the US last week, and will be released in the UK on April 18.

Michael Shannon cast as 'Superman' villain

Michael Shannon has officially joined the cast of Zack Snyder's Superman: The Man of Steel.

It was reported last month that Shannon was in negotiations to play the legendary villain General Zod. According to Deadline, he has now officially signed on to the highly-anticipated superhero reboot.

In an announcement released by Warner Bros, Snyder praised the Boardwalk Empire actor, stating that Shannon was perfect to play the Kryptonian criminal.

"Zod is not only one of Superman's most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don't," said Snyder. "Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role."

Viggo Mortensen was previously rumoured to play Zod, but Snyder shot down those rumours at the end of March.

Other actors that will star in the remake include Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Jonathan and Martha Kent, Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Henry Cavill as Superman.

Superman: The Man Of Steel is scheduled to open in December 2012.

Neve Campbell: 'Sequel obsession is terrible

Neve Campbell has spoken out against the slew of "terrible" sequels, prequels and adaptations produced by Hollywood.

The 37-year-old, who returns to the iconic role of Sidney Prescott in upcoming slasher Scream 4, bemoaned the Tinseltown practice of overlooking creative but untested new stories in favour of franchises and follow-ups.

She told Contactmusic: "We're going back to versions of movies that were only out a short while ago. There are sequels and all theses prequels to all the sequels. It's a terrible situation, it truly is. It makes me sad because there are so many great stories out there waiting to be told.

"Every single comic, every single book is made into a film. Do you know an author pitching a book nowadays is asked to consider whether there's a possibility of making a film from it? So films are even limiting the kinds of books we'll be able to read."

Despite her distaste for sequels, Campbell confessed that she felt unable to stay away from Scream writer Kevin Williamson's "really great" vision for a fourth instalment.

She argued: "What's Scream 4 in the grand scheme of things? We made the last one, like, 12 years ago, c'mon!

"I felt we'd done such a good trilogy we shouldn't push our luck. Then Kevin pitched me his idea and I thought, 'This could actually be really great'. I knew it would be fun to see everyone again."

Campbell previously discussed her reluctance to return to the Scream franchise.

Director Wes Craven hinted this weekend that he may helm a further two planned Scream sequels.

Hit Girl' project announced

Mark Millar has unveiled his Hit Girl spinoff series.

Speaking on the Millarworld panel at Kapow! Comic Con, the writer revealed that he is working on the project with Kick-Ass collaborator John Romita Jr.

Millar said that the series would contain all the things that he had wanted to include in Kick-Ass 2 but couldn't find the space.

He said that there were no plans to produce a Hit Girl movie. He likened the idea to creating a spinoff film starring Han Solo, saying that some characters work better as part of an ensemble.

Hit Girl first appeared in the first series of Kick-Ass, a comic about a boy who decides to become a real-life superhero.

Chloe Moretz's portrayal of the foul-mouthed, violent little girl in the movie raised some controversy over her swearing during the film. She received the 2010 Digital Spy Movie Award for 'Best Actress' for the role.

Millar and Romita Jr are currently working on Kick-Ass 2. Work has also begun on Hit Girl.

'Judge Dredd' very promising, says Jock

Jock has discussed the upcoming Judge Dredd movie at Kapow! Comic Con.

Speaking at the 2000 AD Mega-Stars panel, the artist said that he had seen some footage recently and that it was "very promising".

"It looks great," he said. "It's tough, it's hard, it's violent. I was worried that I would have to come here and say, 'Yeah, it's okay.' "

Watchmen writer Dave Gibbons praised Alex Garland's script, saying that the most important thing about a comic book movie is that it "has to be close to the source material".

Jock provided concept art for the film. His career began as an artist on 2000 AD, for which he has illustrated many 'Judge Dredd' stories.

The film stars Karl Urban as the eponymous lawman. Judge Dredd co-creator John Wagner has promised that the new movie will be far closer to the comic than the much-maligned 1995 film starring Sylvester Stallone.

The film is planned for release in spring 2012.

Zach Galifianakis departs 'R.I.P.D.

Zach Galifianakis has dropped out of comic book adaptation R.I.P.D.

The actor, who has commitments to Warner Bros' Southern Rivals and HBO's Bored To Death, cited scheduling conflicts as the reason for his departure, Deadline reports.

Galifianakis was due to appear in the supernatural crime drama alongside Ryan Reynolds. However, doubts over Reynolds's availability for the project have also been raised due to his potential involvement in Green Lantern sequels.

Reynolds previously hinted that he will either appear in R.I.P.D. or Marvel adaptation Deadpool, rather than both as rumours had suggested.

Created by Peter Lenkov and published by Dark Horse Comics, R.I.P.D. sees a recently-murdered cop join forces with a group of other dead police officers to avenge his death.

The movie entered production following a production and distribution deal between Dark Horse and Universal Pictures.

Duncan Jones responds to 'Wolverine' rumours

Duncan Jones has revealed that he would consider directing The Wolverine if the circumstances were right on the 20th Century Fox blockbuster.

The Moon director, who has been linked to the superhero project following Darren Aronofsky's departure, told Digital Spy that his focus remains on making projects he has written himself.

Jones said of the Wolverine link: "It's lovely for that rumour to be spreading. I've been so busy doing the press for Source Code that I know there's a lot of meetings and people I have to catch up with when I get back to Los Angeles.
