Shatner uncertain about 'Star Trek 2' cameo

William Shatner has confessed that he doesn't believe he will be asked to make an appearance in the Stark Trek sequel.

The actor, whose Trek co-star Leonard Nimoy played an integral role in director J.J. Abrams's franchise reboot, told the Herald Sun that the sci-fi series may have "gone beyond" his involvement.

"I would be so interested in doing it, especially with that wonderful director J.J. Abrams, but I don't see how it's possible and maybe we all have gone beyond that," Shatner said.

The 79-year-old revealed that he is making a documentary wherein he talks to all the captains of the USS Enterprise to "find a common denominator and in the meantime have some fun talking to them about ... their lives".

Reminiscing about his role as James T. Kirk in the franchise, Shatner added: "I think of Star Trek at its best as being really good and when I was at my best I was good in it. There were some if not many missteps, but at its best it was really terrific."

Sienna Miller boards 'Just Like a Woman

Sienna Miller has signed to star in upcoming drama Just Like a Woman.

According to Deadline, Miller will play a housewife who heads to Las Vegas to compete in a belly dancing contest.

The actress said that she joined the project before she read the script because she admires the work of the film's director Rachid Bouchareb.

Bouchareb's film Above the Law was nominated for an Academy Award this year in the category of 'Best Foreign Language Film'.

"Rachid is one of the most exciting directors working today. He's one of those people who understand the medium of film in a way that's not manipulative but that's honest and raw. As a director he's capable of anything. The kinds of films he makes are the ones I like to watch," Miller said.

Production is scheduled to begin in New Mexico on June 13.

It has not yet been announced if Miller has signed to reprise her role as The Baroness in the forthcoming sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

Nolan praises "extraordinary" Henry Cavill

Superman producer Christopher Nolan has said that Henry Cavill will make an "extraordinary" Man of Steel.

Nolan, who will oversee Zack Snyder's franchise reboot while directing The Dark Knight Rises, discussed the British actor's casting in the iconic superhero role with Empire.

"Henry's a terrific choice as Superman," Nolan said. "Other than having the look, he gave an incredible performance in the test we did and I think he's going to be something really extraordinary in the role."

Cavill revealed that he almost gave up acting, only to change his mind when he came close to landing the role of James Bond in Casino Royale.

"I was actually very close to throwing in the towel before the Bond screentest happened," he explained. "The test kept me in the industry. As soon as I got it, I thought, 'There's a reason to stick around. I'm not just wasting my time here.'"

Matthew Fox 'wants comedy roles

Matthew Fox has revealed that he would like to star in a comedy role in future, but completely ruled out acting in sitcoms.

The Lost star recently confirmed that he had quit TV roles and would focus on film and theatre work.

"My saying that always had to do with how much freedom I have - nothing to do with me feeling a film career is more respectable or prestigious," Fox explained. "Some of, if not all the best writing is happening in television.

"It may be that me saying I won't do television any more means I don't ever work again except for in the theatre, because there's just not a lot of film scripts that excite me right now, and it's a hugely competitive business. Who knows?"

Of his desire to move into comedy, he added: "I think people probably don't think I can do that but I'd like to show people I do have a sense of humour. I'm a bit of a practical joker - I have a sense of humour that's pretty dark. You're not going to see me doing any sitcoms, I can say that."

Miller: 'Mad Max 4 will start in 2012'

Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller has revealed that his long-planned sequel will begin shooting in 2012.

Fury Road, which will see Tom Hardy step into Mel Gibson's role as Max Rockatansky, was delayed last year when unseasonal rain made Australia's Broken Hill region too fertile to use for the desert landscape backdrops.

Miller told Australia's Daily Telegraph: "We've built the vehicles. We've designed the movie. The principal cast is locked in. The film is funded. It's all ready to go. We just wait.

"All the contracts are signed. It's a locked-in film. It has been for 18 months now. We will restart pre-production later this year and begin early next year - weather permitting."

Alcon want Scott for 'Blade Runner 2

The producers behind the proposed sequel to Ridley Scott's classic 1982 sci-fi thriller Blade Runner have revealed that they still want the director to be involved with the film in some capacity.

It was announced earlier this week that Alcon Entertainment had acquired the rights to Blade Runner, and were already in the very early stages of development on the film.

Alcon producers Broderick Johnson, Andrew Kosove, and Bud Yorkin deny that while no official contact has taken place between them and Scott, they are at least hoping for his approval on the project.

"What we will say is that Ridley Scott's blessing to what we're doing is very important to Alcon," Kosove told i09. "Certainly we have the greatest degree of respect to him as a filmmaker."

Kosove also revealed that if Scott opted out of returning for the sequel, Inception director Christopher Nolan would be next on their wish-list of directors.

"I think the methodology that Chris Nolan brought to Batman Begins is precisely what we aspire to whomever the filmmaker is," Kosove explained. "Whether Ridley [Scott] comes back and joins us or it's someone else, it's precisely what we aspire to with Blade Runner - that's the template for us."

Blade Runner, based on Philip K. Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, became a cult hit upon its release but plans for a sequel have so far failed to come to fruition.

Reynolds: 'Deadpool movie is in the works

Ryan Reynolds has assured fans that a Deadpool movie is "still in the works".

The 34-year-old starred as the mutant mercenary in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine and was set to reprise the role for a spinoff, but progress on the planned picture has stalled since Reynolds committed to rival comic book franchises Green Lantern and R.I.P.D.

When questioned about the Deadpool project by Empire, Reynolds replied: "That's still in the works. I'm not sure how logistically it works in terms of scheduling, but yeah, I want it to happen."

The Buried star further insisted that he was able to fully commit to both Deadpool and Green Lantern.

He said: "Those two universes are completely different. Superhero movies are so pervasive in pop culture, I don't look at them as superhero roles as much as just roles. They're such different people. Deadpool is about a guy in a highly militarised shame spiral, Green Lantern is more universally themed."

Deadpool is due for release in 2014 while Green Lantern opens in the US and UK on June 17, 2011.

Nichols tweets 'G.I. Joe 2' cast changes

G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra star Rachel Nichols has claimed that only three of the film's characters are returning for next year's sequel.

Last week, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never director Jon Chu was announced as the replacement director for Stephen Sommers, who decided not to return for the follow-up, prompting speculation as to whether any characters would be removed or recast.

Nichols, who played Scarlett in the first film, has now claimed that her character won't be back for the sequel.

"G.I. Joe 2 News Flash: The only characters to return in the Jon Chu directed sequel will be Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, and Duke," Nichols tweeted, later admitting she had been sad at hearing the news. "After the G.I. Joe news I had Heavy Boots, but I'm smiling now!"

The Eagle star Channing Tatum played the lead role of Duke in the first film, while Ray Park and Byung-hun Lee played Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow respectively.

Paramount Pictures will release G.I. Joe 2 in cinemas on August 10, 2012.

Liam Neeson denies 'Batman' return rumours

Liam Neeson has clarified that he will not be appearing in Batman sequel The Dark Knight Rises.

The Unknown actor, who portrayed the villainous Ra's Al Ghul in 2005 reboot Batman Begins, claimed that he would happily return to the superhero franchise, but hasn't yet received an offer from director Christopher Nolan.

When questioned about a possible comeback, Neeson told Empire: "That rumour is totally not true. In the comic books, Ra's Al Ghul goes into a life bath of some sort and immerses himself to become immortal. So that's probably where that comes from. But no-one's approached me with an offer. I'd like to if it happens."

Speculation about Neeson's involvement in The Dark Knight Rises has intensified following a leak of the movie's alleged plot, which prominently features Ra's Al Ghul's daughter Talia and the character's shady organisation the League of Shadows.

Other stars recently linked to a role in the long-awaited film include Robin Williams, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard.

The Dark Knight Rises is due to hit cinemas on July 20, 2012.
