Jackman 'gaining weight for Wolverine'

Hugh Jackman has revealed that he is consuming up to 6,000 calories per day in order to bulk up for his role in The Wolverine.

The actor - who has gained 20lbs since 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine - told the Los Angeles Times that director Darren Aronofsky felt that his character needs to put on weight to bring the story to life.

"Darren said with the last one, 'Hey you looked great, but you're so tall that in those long shots you looked kind of like Clint Eastwood, and that's not Wolverine'," he explained.

"He said that Wolverine, in the comics, is powerful, stocky - you know, he's short and thick. So he said, 'I want you to go there, get bigger'."

Jackman added that he believes the project will please fans, saying: "I feel like all the planets are finally aligned to make a great movie.

"I think we're going to make one that people will describe as the best of the bunch."

The Wolverine will hit theatres worldwide in 2012.

'Superman' female lead 'may be a villain

A recent report claims that the female lead that Zack Snyder is currently choosing for his Superman reboot is actually for the part of a female supervillain.

Earlier this week it was reported that Alice Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike were the top three contenders for the film's female lead, which was presumed to be longtime Superman romantic interest Lois Lane.

However, according to Latino Review, the role that these three actresses are supposedly vying for is actually that of Kryptonian supervillain Ursa.

Ursa has appeared on screen before, played by Sarah Douglas during the Christopher Reeve film franchise in both Superman: The Movie and Superman II.

These rumours suggests that General Zod may be the film's primary villain after all, despite Snyder's previous claims to the contrary.

The film is due to begin production this summer for an expected release in late 2012.

Earlier this week Samuel L. Jackson, who will play S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury in the film, revealed that his character would be accompanied by a female sidekick who was currently being auditioned.

This sidekick is widely expected to be that of Deputy Director Maria Hill, who emerged in the comics as a cold and ruthless replacement for Nick Fury during the Civil War event.

If negotiations go to plan, a deal is expected to be signed with Smulders within the next few weeks.

Production on The Avengers is due to begin this April, followed by an announced release date of May 4, 2012.
