Statham happy to be an action film star

Jason Statham has claimed that he would only take on acting roles outside of the action genre if they were good enough.

Statham, best known for starring in action-heavy films likes The Transporter and Crank, says that he doesn't often get offered interesting enough roles in other genres to consider them.

"You know, it's tough, because people will always keep saying to me, 'Do you only see yourself doing action movies?' and I don't know," Statham told MTV News, when asked whether he felt typecast.

"It's very difficult because one day I might be asked to do something that is of quality in a different genre, but the films that come in from different genres aren't that great.

"So I end up not doing them because once you make a mistake in that area, you can't go back," Statham added. "So, if I do go into something else, it will be because it is good."

The actor recently confirmed that he would be involved in the upcoming sequel to The Expendables.

Statham can currently be seen in cinemas alongside Donald Sutherland in a remake of The Mechanic.

Robin Williams for 'Dark Knight Rises'?

Robin Williams will appear as Dr Hugo Strange in The Dark Knight Rises, insiders have suggested.

The 59-year-old comedian, who came close to securing both the role of The Joker in Tim Burton's 1990 re-imagining and The Riddler in 1995's Batman Forever, is believed to be the subject of a tantalising tweet from Batman On Film which teases: "RW as Strange? Hmm..."

Batman News has noted that the poster correctly identified the presence of Bane in Christopher Nolan's superhero sequel prior to the confirmation of Tom Hardy's casting in the role. The website adds that another reliable source has frequently claimed that Strange will make an appearance.

Insiders have previously hinted that the Rises plot will be based on comic-book storyline 'Prey', in which Strange is portrayed as a psychotic psychologist tasked with helping Gotham police capture Batman.

Williams stated last summer that he would "do Batman in a second" should he be offered a part.

The Dark Knight Rises, which includes Anne Hathaway's Catwoman amongst its confirmed villains, is due for release on July 20, 2012.

Adam Sandler to play 800lb character?

Adam Sandler is reportedly being lined up to play an 800lb character in a project with the tentative title Fat Man.

First Showing states that a "touching and beautifully written" spec script for the film has caught the attention of Youth In Revolt director Miguel Arteta, who claims that Sandler is "flirting with" the idea of taking star billing.

He gushed: "I'd love to do a movie with Adam Sandler that... someone said he was flirting with? It's called Fat Man. I don't know if you've heard about this? [Mike Reiss], one of the main writers of The Simpsons wrote the script and it's amazing.

"He would play an 800lb guy who has a love affair between him and his nurse. And he's naked for the first half of the film... and it's very touching... and it's very funny. So I hope he gets the gumption to do it, and maybe I get a crack at that, that would be amazing. Certainly, it would be not a movie you would forget anytime soon... and [it's] beautifully written."

The website adds that the script is believed to have first circulated in 2003, when it was picked up by Sandler's production company Happy Madison.

Millar: 'Kick-Ass 2 to start soon'

Mark Millar has confirmed that work on a sequel to Kick-Ass is to begin soon, joking that they would need to film the project quickly to ensure that star Chloe Moretz doesn't become too old to play Hit-Girl.

Millar claims that he always knew a sequel to Kick-Ass was inevitable due to the relatively low budget needed for the project.

"We knew from the beginning there would be [a sequel]," Millar told Newsarama. "We ended the first one with a trailer practically for it.

"It's just, when everybody has the time," Millar explained, confirming that he was already in the process of writing the sequel's story.

"We just have to make sure the actors don't get too old," the writer added. "Chloe [Moretz] in particular. We can't wait until she's 15. We don't want Hit-Girl with kids."

As well as a proposed sequel to Kick-Ass, Millar has also confirmed that work on film adaptations of his other comic series, Nemesis and Superior, are already underway.

"I also join Warner Bros, Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”

I think this is a stupid decision, the man is an unknown as far as I am concerned as is the guy doing the Spider-Man reboot, I can see both movies being a box office disaster.

Star Trek' scribes to adapt 'Ender's Game'

The screenwriters behind Star Trek and the first two Transformers movies have revealed that they are working on an adaptation of Orson Scott Card's novel Ender's Game.

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who refer to themselves as K/O, are currently attempting to sell the script with the help of director Gavin Hood (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and the production company Odd Lot Entertainment (The Spirit).

Orci tweeted the news two days ago, writing: "Ender's Game! Us(K/O), Oddlot, and Gavin Hood taking his amazing script to the town! Who wants some?"

Screen Rant reports that this is the first time that Kurtzman and Orci's names have been connected with the project.

Ender's Game tells the story of Andrew 'Ender' Wiggins, a young boy taken to a school to be trained in the art of war in order to fight off an alien invasion by an insectoid race called the Buggers. At the school, Ender is revealed to be a tactical genius.

Should the screenplay be purchased, Ender's Game is expected to be released in 2013.

Fuller: 'Friday The 13th sequel is ready'

Producer Brad Fuller has revealed that a sequel to Friday The 13th has been written.

Fuller, who also produced The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and A Nightmare on Elm Street, tweeted that another sequel to the popular slasher series is on the way.

"I want to set the record straight on Freddy and Jason... First, let's talk Jason. [Damian] Shannon and [Mark] Swift wrote a great script. We are ready to go, when New Line is ready. But as of yet, they are not ready," Fuller wrote.

Fuller stated last year that a sequel was not a possibility. "It is dead - not happening," he said.

However, it now appears as though studio commitment is all that is needed before the sequel can get under way.

On a possible follow-up to last year's A Nightmare On Elm Street reboot, Fuller was less optimistic, adding: "As for Freddy, as far as I know, there isn't even talk of writing another script."

Cameron: 'Avatar 2 will feature better 3D'

James Cameron has revealed that he plans to improve 3D technology for Avatar 2.

Cameron, who directed the original Avatar, spoke to Speakeasy about shooting the sequel to the 2009 blockbuster.

"For Avatar 2, what I'm most interested in is getting theatres to up their light level," Cameron said. "And we want to shoot the movie at 48 or maybe even 60 frames a second, and display it at that speed, which will eliminate a lot of the motion artifacts that I think are causing some people problems."

Cameron went on to discuss the cause of the nausea that some individuals experience when viewing a film in 3D.

"People talk about feeling sick or something like that, and I think it's because the image is strobing," Cameron stated. "That's a function of the 24-frame frame rate, which has actually got nothing to do with 3D."

Cameron continued: "It's just made more apparent because the 3D is otherwise such an enhanced, realistic image, that all of a sudden you're aware of this funky strobing which you weren't aware of."

Tyler Perry As Alex Cross In James Patterson Franchise Reboot

QED has packaged an adaptation of I, Alex Cross, the James Patterson novel that is essentially a reboot of the James Patterson mystery series that starred Morgan Freeman as the detective/psychologist based in D.C. Tyler Perry will headline this version, and Rob Cohen will direct. Distributors are circling the project right now. In fact, Paramount, which distributed the Cross mysteries Kiss the Girls and Along Came A Spider, is interested in taking the project off the table. It will be interesting to see if Lionsgate steps up after Perry has consistently turned in winners for the minimajor, which collects a distribution fee on pictures that Perry owns. The Alex Cross reboot was originally conceived as a vehicle for actor Idris Elba, who was going to play the character in the novel Cross, with David Twohy directing. Perry became the lead in recent weeks. It's likely to be a controversial choice, and the key will be whether Perry can bring the considerable following that follow his directing vehicles. His biggest successes came when Perry played the female alter ego, the stereotypical matriarch Madea.

He last directed For Colored Girls, an adaptation of the iconic 1975 play by Ntozake Shange. His movies usually have a strong female following, and the Cross mysteries are action mystery which appeals to a male viewing audience. It is a radical departure for Perry, who usually stars in the films he writes and directs (Star Trek was an exception). Lionsgate recently acquired Take My Wife, a comedy that will star Perry and Dwayne Johnson. Cohen is an interesting choice as director, and has a franchise track record: he launched both the XxX and The Fast and the Furious franchises. I'm told that the plan is for Perry to star in a trilogy. QED partners Bill Block and Paul Hanson will produce. WME reps both Perry and Cohen.

Stewart, Agron linked to Lois Lane role

Kristen Stewart and Glee star Dianna Agron are reportedly in the running to play Lois Lane in the new Superman movie.

According to What's Playing, Rachel McAdams, Jessica Biel and Malin Akerman, the star of Superman director Zack Snyder's Watchmen, are also in contention to play Clark Kent's Daily Planet colleague and love interest.

A source claimed that Stewart is unlikely to sign up for the superhero picture because she has "too many other juicy offers", while Agron has been "getting in the door" to audition for several high-profile movies.

Anne Hathaway has allegedly been removed from the Lois Lane shortlist after winning the role of Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises.

Margot Kidder, Teri Hatcher, Erica Durance and Kate Bosworth have previously portrayed Lois Lane on screen.

Henry Cavill will play the title role in Superman, due out in cinemas in December 2012.

Javier Bardem "a huge fan" of James Bond

Javier Bardem has admitted that he is "intrigued" by the idea of starring in the next James Bond movie.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Bardem confirmed that he has met with director Sam Mendes about playing the latest Bond villain opposite Daniel Craig's secret agent.

"I'm a huge fan of the James Bond saga," Bardem said. "When I was little, I went watching Mr Connery doing James Bond with my father. Who in the world would think I'd be in one of those movies?"

The Oscar-winning No Country For Old Men star added of his potential 007 villain: "They're changing the whole thing, the whole dynamic. I'd be playing Bond's nemesis, yes, but it's not that obvious. Everything is more nuanced. It's very intriguing."

Bardem recently won an Academy Award nomination for his role as a cancer-stricken underworld figure in Alejandro González Iñárritu's Biutiful.

The 23rd James Bond film will start production later this year for a worldwide release on November 9, 2012.
