Mickey Rourke to play gay rugby player

Mickey Rourke has announced that he will portray openly gay rugby player Gareth Thomas in the film version of the athlete's life.

In an appearance on Alan Carr: Chatty Man, the actor discussed the role and how important it is to get Thomas's story out to the public.

"Here's the deal. When I met the rugby player, Gareth Thomas, this is one thing that he and I talked about," he explained.

"This is something that's really important. We're doing a movie about a man who plays rugby who is gay."

Rourke continued by explaining that he was drawn to the story from the minute he began reading the script, saying: "I read the story. It's one of the toughest, hardest sports in the world to play. They play with no pads. They play... it's a really brutal sport.

"To be a man who plays rugby who is gay and to live with that secret for the amount of years that Gareth had, to perform at the high level that he performed at, it takes a lot of courage."

Renner's Hawkeye to cameo in 'Thor'

Jeremy Renner will appear in a cameo role as Hawkeye in the new Thor movie.

The Wrap reports that a source, who has seen an early cut of the movie, says that Renner makes a cameo appearance but it was not specified what the reason for his appearance will be.

The Hurt Locker actor had previously said that Hawkeye might appear in Thor when he was unconfirmed as playing the character.

He said at the time: "The only reason it came out this early, because Avengers is two years away, is that they’re thinking, 'OK, we may throw him in Thor, we may not, as a cameo'. You know what I mean? So there’s truth that we talked about it, but there’s no truth to me doing it."

Renner is also set to star as Hawkeye in The Avengers when it opens in 2012.

Robert De Niro hoping for more 'Fockers'

Robert De Niro has expressed his desire to star in more films from the Meet The Parents franchise.

Speaking to PA, the Oscar-winning actor - who plays retired CIA operative Jack Byrnes - revealed that he enjoyed the latest instalment Little Fockers.

He said: "I enjoyed it. If we did another one or two, I'm fine with that - I'd love to. Everybody has to get up to speed and want to do it and then it happens."

De Niro, who stars alongside Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Blythe Danner, Teri Polo, Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand, suggested that his favourite character is his own.

He continued: "I like Jack because he's fun to play and I like the other characters. And it's very satisfying when you come up with a character that everybody likes and with this film it was great because everyone was coming up with good ideas for the characters and the situations and that's fun to do.

"I think that people can recognise these characters because they are based on a truth and the story is based on real situations even when it gets a little out there. Jack is just very protective of his daughter and his family and everyone knows that feeling."

January Jones "intimidated" by 'X-Men' role

January Jones has admitted that she had reservations about playing X-Men: First Class character Emma Frost.

The Mad Men star told the Los Angeles Times that she was initially reluctant to sign up for the mutant role because the prequel film's storyline takes place in the same decade as her AMC show.

"When I heard that this instalment of X-Men was going to take place in the '60s I was like, 'Oh my God, you must be kidding me!'" Jones said. “But I read the script and familiarised myself with the character of Emma Frost. She’s so, so far from Betty and from Mad Men, and it takes place in that time but it doesn’t feel like a period movie."

Jones added that Frost's skimpy costumes in the Marvel comics books left her feeling intimidated.

"It's a lot of very body-conscious stuff," she commented. "If you look at the comic book, she’s barely dressed. She’s got quite the bod, which is very intimidating."

X-Men: First Class will open in cinemas this summer.
