William Scott joins hockey film 'Goon'



Sean William Scott has signed on for a role in Michael Dowse's upcoming hockey comedy Goon.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that Scott will join Jay Baruchel, Alison Pill and Marc-Andrew Grondin for the film, which tells the story of a bouncer blessed with the 'fist of God' who joins a losing hockey team to help them start winning.

The script was inspired by Doug Smith and Adam Frattasio's novel Goon: The True Story Of An Unlikely Journey Into Minor League Hockey and has been written by Evan Goldberg and Jay Baruchel.

Goon will reportedly begin filming this October, with a release date still to be confirmed.

Scott is best known for his appearances as Steve Stifler in the American Pie film series, and will reportedly reprise his role in 2012 for the forthcoming American Pie 4.

Hoffman rumoured for 'Spider-Man' reboot



Philip Seymour Hoffman is rumoured to be under consideration for a part in Sony's upcoming Spider-Man reboot.

Deadline reports that Hoffman may star as the super-villain Venom, the alter ego of one of Peter Parker's co-workers at the fictional newspaper the Daily Bugle.

Venom was previously portrayed by Topher Grace in Spider-Man 3, in a casting decision which was criticised by many fans of the comic book character.

It was recently reported that Emma Stone had been offered the part of Mary Jane Watson in the film, which will see Andrew Garfield take over as Spider-Man.

Marc Webb is set to direct the reboot, which is scheduled to be released in July 2012.

Affleck 'was Nolan's choice for Superman'



Ben Affleck was reportedly producer Christopher Nolan's first choice to direct his Superman reboot.

According to Deadline, Affleck was offered the chance to helm the superhero picture by Warner Bros on the suggestion of Nolan but chose to decline the approach.

Affleck picked up an Academy Award in 1998 for co-writing Good Will Hunting with Matt Damon and his since directed the critically acclaimed dramas Gone Baby Gone and The Town. The latter, a Warner Bros-backed movie, topped the US box office last month.

Affleck portrayed former Superman star George Reeves in 2006 biopic Hollywoodland.

Darren Aronofsky, Duncan Jones, Matt Reeves and Zack Snyder have also been rumoured for the director's chair on the Nolan-steered Superman project.

LaBeouf: 'Transformers 3 is best of series'



Shia LaBeouf has promised that the forthcoming Transformers 3 will be the best in the trilogy.

Speaking to MTV News, the actor revealed that he is particularly proud of working on the latest instalment of the action film series because it ties together plot elements established in the first Transformers movie.

"The script is the best script we've had," he said. "The first movie, we had the discovery, and this movie really is the fruition of the rhythm we've created out of five years working together. I'm super proud of this movie."

LaBeouf also vowed that Transformers 3 will be his final appearance in the franchise.

He explained: "There's no more for me, at least. I'm never going to do it again. This is the last one, so it's balls-out.

"This is the best movie we've made, period, and that's a unanimous decision by everybody. The sizzle reel that [director Michael Bay] has been showing everybody on set, it's so outrageous. I'm very, very, very, very proud of it."

Transformers 3 is released in cinemas in July 2011.

Tony Gilroy to helm 'Bourne Legacy'



Tony Gilroy has been announced as the director behind The Bourne Legacy.

The Michael Clayton helmer was previously hired to write the script for the film in June but has now been secured by Universal Pictures to direct the project as well, reports Deadline.

It has yet to be confirmed whether franchise star Matt Damon will return after previous director Paul Greengrass exited to work with the actor on another movie titled Green Zone.

Frank Marshall, along with Jeffrey Weiner and Ben Smith of Captivate Entertainment, will produce The Bourne Legacy.

The picture was originally due to hit theatres in 2011 but is currently without a scheduled release date.

Snyder reveals 'Superman' reboot details



Zack Snyder has revealed the details about his upcoming project - Christopher Nolan’s reboot of Superman.

Snyder, who was announced as the director of the highly-anticipated reboot today, spoke to MTV News about the superhero movie.

"All I'll say is that those guys, Chris and David [Goyer], have created an amazing story," Snyder said. "The 'Why [remake] Superman?' is definitely being looked at with care, that's all I could hope for as a director.

"Everyone always says, 'Why Superman? Why is he relevant? Who is he now?' I think those guys have done an amazing job with that. That's the real trick."

Snyder admitted that he hopes Nolan will be involved in the filmmaking process as well.

"I would think that he would be," he said. "I have a lot of respect for him."

Snyder's Superman to face General Zod?



Zack Snyder's Superman movie will feature General Zod as its villain, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The character, a survivor from Superman's home planet Krypton, first appeared in a 1961 issue of Adventure Comics and has since featured in Man of Steel film and TV incarnations.

Terence Stamp portrayed Zod opposite Christopher Reeve in 1980's Superman II, while more recently Callum Blue appeared as the character in Smallville.

Snyder will direct Superman from a script by David Goyer. Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas, Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are all on board to produce the superhero relaunch.

Speaking about his collaboration with The Dark Knight director Nolan, Snyder said: "In the initial meetings, he's been super-amazingly smart and also amazingly kind, filmmaker-to-filmmaker. I have great respect for him. The process has been amazing so far, and it looks like nothing but pluses."

He added: "I definitely expressed my love for the character and interest in seeing him treated right. The character deserves to be loved. It's his time."

Willis: 'Die Hard 5 could shoot in 2011'



Bruce Willis has admitted that production on another Die Hard movie could begin next year.

Speaking to MTV in July, Willis said that Die Hard 5 was "imminent". He has now clarified that statement in a new interview.

"I think I might have said the word wrong. I thought 'imminent' meant that you have a lot of 'em. So I have to apologise for that," he explained.

However, the actor went on to say that the sequel is still in the works and that a draft on the script has already been completed.

He added: "It's probably going to happen in 2011. We have a script. They're making a couple changes right now."

Willis's next action picture Red opens October 8 in US cinemas.

Ruffalo: 'Hulk could return after Avengers'



Mark Ruffalo has said that he could play The Hulk/Bruce Banner in other projects after the Avengers movie.

Speaking to Empire, the actor revealed that he expects to portray the role in future Marvel Studios superhero films.

"They set up several pictures over a couple of years and possibly there will be another The Incredible Hulk movie. There'll probably be a couple more Avengers too, which would be fun," Ruffalo explained.

He added: "The way I see it, Edward Norton has bequeathed this role to me. I reckon the part is my generation's Hamlet, and there's still some room for interpreting who The Incredible Hulk is."

Joss Whedon is directing The Avengers. The film is expected to arrive in US cinemas on May 4, 2012.

Emma Stone confirmed for 'Spider-Man'



Emma Stone has been cast in the upcoming reboot of Spider-Man, it has been confirmed.

Stone had been rumoured for the part of Mary Jane Watson, but Sony Pictures have revealed that the 21-year-old will instead play Peter Parker's college girlfriend Gwen Stacy.

In a statement, director Marc Webb said that Stone's "stunning" chemistry with Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield made her the clear choice.

"At the heart of the story of Peter Parker is not only the amazing Spider-Man, but also an ordinary teenager who is wondering what he has to do to get the girl," Webb said. "Andrew and Emma will bring everything audiences expect to these roles, but also make them their own."

Columbia Pictures president Matt Tolmach added: "It's been an incredible journey for us to watch Emma's star rise as an actress.

"She is extraordinarily talented and has a very special on-screen spark that is perfect for this role. Given her history with the studio, casting her in one of our most important franchises is a real thrill."

The character of Gwen Stacy, who first appeared in 1965 in The Amazing Spider-Man #31, was played by Bryce Dallas Howard in Spider-Man 3 and is noted for her striking blonde hair.

Webb added: "Much to my surprise, it was fun to find out that our choice for Gwen is also a natural blonde."

The currently untitled Spider-Man reboot is due to be released in 2012.

Cruise, Nicholson reuniting for 'El Presidente'



Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson could potentially reunite for El Presidente.

The pair, who faced off in Rob Reiner's 1992 drama A Few Good Men, are being lined up to star in the Warner Bros action-comedy, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Cruise would play a secret service agent assigned to protect Nicholson's bumbling former president. In Dan Goor's script, the duo are forced to go on the run together when a threat is made against the president's life.

Courtroom drama A Few Good Men, based on Aaron Sorkin's play, grossed more than $240 million at the worldwide box office and picked up four Oscar nominations, including a 'Supporting Actor' nod for Nicholson's Col. Nathan R. Jessep.

Superman' storyline revealed?



Storyline details for Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan's Superman revamp have emerged.

David Goyer's superhero script will allegedly follow journalist Clark Kent as he travels the world and must decide whether or not he wants to become Superman. Recent reports also claimed that General Zod will be the film's villain.

Director Snyder, who held off competition from Darren Aronofsky to secure the Superman job, has reportedly expressed concerns about Goyer's story.

According to Vulture, the script was rushed through and has been described as "a bit of a mess". Snyder allegedly signed up to direct because Warner Bros. believes he will be able to rectify the problems quickly.

Warner Bros. is planning to have a new Superman in production by next year - in order to avoid potential lawsuits from the heirs of the Man of Steel's creators - to make a 2012 release.

Idris Elba cast in 'Ghost Rider' sequel



Idris Elba has joined the cast of Columbia Pictures' Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance.

According to Heat Vision, the actor is to portray an "alcoholic warrior monk" in the comic book-inspired sequel.

Elba joins Nicolas Cage and Ciaran Hinds in the movie, which is helmed by Crank duo Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. Principal photography for the film commenced last month. It will be shot in 3D in Romania.

Elba - who will also star in Kenneth Branagh's Thor - has previously expressed interest in playing other Marvel heroes, including Blade and Luke Cage.

"I wouldn't mind having a crack at bringing Blade back, personally," he told Total Film. "There's a couple of things there that they have... Luke Cage is... very interesting."

Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance arrives in theatres in February 2012.

Aronofsky in talks to direct 'Wolverine 2'?



20th Century Fox has reportedly opened negotiations with Darren Aronofsky to direct the next Wolverine movie.

According to Deadline, Aronofsky recently met with Fox chief Tom Rothman to talk about taking over directing duties on the upcoming sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

The Black Swan helmer and David Slade were the top names on a previously announced shortlist of directors being considered for the project.

Aronofsky's meetings with Fox have apparently rekindled after he did not sign to direct the upcoming Superman film.

If he agrees to helm Wolverine 2, the project would reunite Aronofsky with the star of his 2006 film The Fountain, Hugh Jackman.

Official 'Transformers 3' title leaks?



The official title of the next Transformers movie is Transformers 3: The Dark of the Moon, according to fansite Sibertron.

Collider reports that sources close to the production on the Michael Bay-directed action sequel have confirmed the name.

The title also appears in a series of books related to the film available for pre-order on Amazon.

Franchise veterans Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson are starring in the movie along with newcomers Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Alan Tudyk and John Malkovich.

The film is expected to hit US cinemas on July 1, 2011.

Johnny Depp wants 'Frontier' role



Johnny Depp is eager to star in Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow's latest movie Triple Frontier, says Deadline.

The Alice In Wonderland actor is reportedly keen to team up with Tom Hanks for the drugs drama, which is set in the organised crime haven between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil.

Actors such as Will Smith, Sean Penn, Javier Bardem, Christian Bale and Denzel Washington have all been rumoured for the Mark Boal-scripted project. The story includes five main characters, although Depp and Hanks's roles are said to be the largest.

Depp is currently filming the fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie and will reunite with Tim Burton next year for Dark Shadows.

Blunt and Weisz sign to play sisters



Emily Blunt and Rachel Weisz have reportedly signed to play sisters in a forthcoming film.

According to Deadline, Lynn Shelton is directing the still-untitled project which is scheduled to start production in Seattle later this month.

The movie is to shoot for only a couple of weeks.

Weisz is also attached to star in director Terrence Malick's untitled new film as well as drama The Deep Blue Sea.

Blunt recently joined the Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis sci-fi thriller Looper. She will also appear in The Adjustment Bureau with Matt Damon, opening next March.

Slumdog's Anil Kapoor in line for 'M:I4'



Anil Kapoor is close to agreeing a role in Mission: Impossible 4, it has been revealed.

The Slumdog Millionaire star is in negotiations to play an "integral supporting role" in the Paramount picture, according to Deadline.

However, the studio denied earlier reports that the 50-year-old is being lined up to play a villain in the Brad Bird-directed film.

Kapoor has won numerous awards for his Bollywood film career, and last year made his TV debut in the final season of 24.

M:I4 sees Tom Cruise reprise his role as IMF operative Ethan Hunt, alongside returnees Ving Raimes and Simon Pegg, and new cast members Jeremy Renner, Josh Holloway and Paula Patton.

Cruise, Paula Wagner and J.J. Abrams are producing the movie, which will shoot in Vancouver, Prague and Dubai this autumn with a view to a December 2011 release.

Damon to direct Affleck in 'The Trade'?



Ben Affleck has revealed that Matt Damon could make his directorial debut on the pair's baseball drama The Trade.

The movie centres on New York Yankees players Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekich who, during 1973 spring training, announced that they had traded wives. Affleck and Damon may star as Peterson and Kekich respectively.

Speaking to MTV, Affleck said that he and his brother Casey Affleck will pen the script together.

"Once the script’s kind of ready, then it’s like, Who’s doing what? What’s the time frame? Matt, me, Casey directing?" he said.

"Particularly for Matt, he’s had this extraordinary career where he’s worked with these great directors. He’s a great director who just hasn’t directed a movie."

Damon worked with the Affleck brothers on Good Will Hunting, scooping an Oscar with Ben for original screenwriting. Ben has since helmed crime dramas Gone Baby Gone and The Town, while Casey directed mock-documentary I'm Still Here.

Batman 3' to shoot in New Orleans



Warner Bros and DC Entertainment are planning to shoot Christopher Nolan's third Batman film in New Orleans.

According to Superhero Hype, the sequel to The Dark Knight will enter production in April.

Nolan's previous Batman movies were filmed in Chicago. It is unknown whether New Orleans will be converted into Gotham City, or the location will serve as an alternate backdrop.

The reports support earlier rumours of the shooting location, and back up Michael Caine's comments that the project will commence in April.

DC previously filmed Jonah Hex in the Louisiana city and will use the location again during the production of Martin Campbell's Green Lantern.

Nolan's third Batman film is slated for July 2012.
