Pike: 'Johnny English role not like Bond'

Rosamund Pike has revealed that her role in Johnny English Reborn is very different to that of her Bond girl.

Pike, whose involvement in the Rowan Atkinson spy spoof sequel was announced earlier this month, compared her upcoming part in the comedy to her character Miranda Frost in 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day.

According to The Mirror, she said: "Although it's a Bond spoof, it's nothing like being a Bond girl, because I've got a very interesting role to play actually.

"Not that the character in the Bond film wasn't interesting, but I don't get to play with guns or fight. There is a scene in a car, so there is an element of Bond about it. But she's quite a funny character."

The 31-year-old also said that Atkinson personally asked her to take part in the project.

"Rowan Atkinson came after he saw An Education and wanted me to do this part in the Johnny English film for him," she said. "It's a very, very funny script."

Stephen Fry to play Mycroft in 'Sherlock 2'

Stephen Fry has revealed that he will play Mycroft Holmes in the upcoming Sherlock Holmes sequel.

The actor told Five Live's Danny Baker that he has been cast opposite Robert Downey Jr as the older brother of the Baker Street detective.

"I'm playing Mycroft in the sequel to the Sherlock Holmes film Guy Ritchie directed with Robert Downey Jr," he said.

Fry noted that he is looking forward to the part, although he admitted that he more enjoys taking on a leading role, as he did in 1997 biopic Wilde.

"That sort of part (Sherlock Holmes) is fun, but just once in a while to play a genuine all-round sort of lead figure with complexity and tragedy and wit and all the sort of things that Oscar [Wilde] had was a once-in-a-lifeftime thrill," Fry explained.

Downey Jr and Jude Law will return for the Sherlock Holmes follow-up, while The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star Noomi Rapace will play the love interest, a French gypsy.

Sherlock Holmes 2 is due to film this year for a December 16, 2011 release

Director Darren Aronofsky may direct the Christopher Nolan-produced reboot of Superman, it has been announced.

Aronofsky reportedly met with Nolan, according to the LA Times. Aronofsky, whose latest film Black Swan has earned early Oscar buzz, famously resists taking on bigger-budget studio pictures. Other directors in the running include Tony Scott, Matt Reeves, Duncan Jones, Zack Snyder and Jonathan Liebesman.

Aronofsky claims that he is currently developing Robocop, the remake of the 1980s action movie. Yet, as there are rumours that the project is on hold due to the financial problems at MGM, Aronofsky may be free to take on Superman.

"I think I'm still attached," Aronofsky said of Robocop at the Toronto International Film Festival. "I don't know. I haven't heard from anyone in a while."

Whedon: 'Avengers won't be a lull fest'

Joss Whedon has said that his adaptation of The Avengers will not be a "lull fest".

The project, which is scheduled for a 2012 release, has a roster of high-profile actors stepping into the comic book roles, including Robert Downey Jr and Scarlett Johansson revisiting their Iron Man 2 characters and Samuel L. Jackson joining as Nick Fury.

Speaking to SFX, Whedon admitted that he was conflicted between producing a comic book action movie and a more dramatic acting tome.

He said: "What I will struggle with, in the outline and throughout, is that I would like to put these actors in a room and just make Glengarry Glen Ross.

"We're talking about really exciting people and at the same time I have to keep the momentum of the thing going. I can't let it turn into a lull fest."

Whedon said of Mark Ruffalo's Hulk: "He was my first choice to play the part, and the fact he is playing the part is nuts! They went to great lengths to make that happen and they understood exactly why he was right for the part."
