An Education star Carey Mulligan has reportedly failed to secure the lead part in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

According to The Mail on Sunday, the actress didn't impress director David Fincher because she was too "clean-cut".

It was previously reported that Mulligan had landed the role in the trilogy, which could have earned her up to £10m.

Stallone: 'Bruce, Arnie were my enemies'

Sylvester Stallone has confessed that he used to consider fellow action heroes Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis to be enemies.

The trio make their first appearance together in this summer's big budget blockbuster The Expendables, but the Rambo star revealed that he didn't take too kindly to his rivals in the past when they were competing for roles.

"I was very competitive with them, and very jealous if they got a better movie or script than me," he told FHM. "That's what made us push so hard, and it's why Arnold was so great.

"He was far more diligent than me; I was too reckless. He's very machine-like and I did consider him an enemy. But, looking back, it was a good enemy."

Although old feuds have been forgotten, Stallone added that he was left stunned by a foul mouthed ad-lib Willis directed at him and Schwarzenegger in one of their scenes together.

"He goes, 'Why don't you just suck each other's c**ks?' I thought, 'You can't tell Rambo and The Terminator to suck each other's c**ks!'

"I said to the guys, 'You know what, that's worth the price of admission alone!'"

The Expendables, which also features Hollywood hard men Jason Statham and Mickey Rourke, is released in the US on August 13 and arrives in the UK one week later.

Betsy Russell: 'Saw 8 is a possibility'

Saw star Betsy Russell has hinted that there could yet be an eighth instalment of the long-running horror franchise.

Although it was recently confirmed that the upcoming Saw 3D: The Traps Come Alive will be the final film of the series, the 46-year-old actress, who has played the role of serial killer Jigsaw's wife Jill Tuck since Saw III, revealed that writers were seriously considering penning yet another sequel.

"We thought it was ending with 7, but the writers came up with an amazing idea for Saw 8," she told the New York Post. "I'd love to see it."

However, Russell added that she did not want to see the film or its characters to outstay their welcome.

"We want to end near the top with our integrity intact, and not let the characters die a slow death, so to speak," she continued. "But I believe in my heart that Saw 8 will happen."

Saw 3D: The Traps Come Alive arrives in US and UK cinemas on October 29.

Aniston wants 'Arrested Development' role

Jennifer Aniston has revealed that she would love a role in the upcoming Arrested Development movie.

Jason Bateman, who starred as Michael Bluth in the original Fox sitcom, had previously suggested Aniston for a part in the recently-confirmed film.

Bateman, who stars alongside the former Friends actress in forthcoming films The Switch and Horrible Bosses, told MTV News: "Yeah, actually, there's a real good part for her in the Arrested Development movie. I don't know, we'll see if she's available. She's busy. She's pretty famous. I don't know if you've heard of her.

"She's pretty backed up. Hopefully the guy who's in charge will like her for that part because I'm going to suggest her."

Aniston appeared to be keen on the idea, adding: "I love it. I actually think I might have asked [Jason]... if that was possible. Anything to work with Jason."

Bateman also revealed that there were no new details on the status of the project.

He said: "The truth is that there's really no significant update beyond... what [creator] Mitch Hurwitz said a couple of weeks ago, which was he's got half the script written. He's got to finish the second half and then the studio's got to love it and the cast's got to love it and we all have to... have time to do it."

Director: 'Cloverfield 2 still a priority'

Cloverfield director Matt Reeves has revealed that a sequel to the 2008 film is still a "priority" for himself and producer J.J. Abrams.

Speaking to MTV, Reeves admitted that a follow-up to the monster-invades-New York blockbuster has had to take a backseat while he completes vampire remake Let Me In and Abrams makes sci-fi project Super 8.

"It really isn't the moment for [the sequel] to go any further than it has, but it continues to be a priority for both of us," said Reeves. "J.J. is very immersed in putting together Super 8. He's in pre-production and really, really passionately getting that together. And I'm passionately finishing Let Me In."

Reeves also confirmed that Abrams's secretive Super 8 project is unrelated to Cloverfield.

"Super 8 is not the Cloverfield sequel," he commented. "There literally is no connection whatsoever [between Super 8 and Cloverfield]. It's just a really cool idea for a film. I know what [J.J. is] doing and it's amazing."

Lundgren turned down 'Dragon Tattoo' role

Dolph Lundgren has revealed that he turned down the chance to star in the original Girl With The Dragon Tattoo movies.

The Swedish action star, who portrays sniper Gunner Jensen in Sylvester Stallone's forthcoming movie The Expendables, told Digital Spy that he wasn't a fan of the part on offer in Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy.

"It's a huge series," Lundgren said. "I was actually offered a role in the early movies, but I didn't like the role and I thought it was something I could have done in Hollywood so I didn't do it in the Swedish-language version."

The actor added that he keen to make more projects in his home country, specifically a period piece that could bring in actors from across Europe.

"I'm looking to try and do stuff in Sweden," he said. "I think a period piece would fit well, whether it be Vikings... I don't know. Anything in the past. That's something I'm looking into."

The Expendables opens in US cinemas on August 13 and August 19 in the UK.

Stallone: 'I was rejected for Han Solo'

Sylvester Stallone has revealed that he was rejected for the role of Han Solo in the original Star Wars trilogy.

Answering a fan Q&A on Ain't It Cool News, The Expendables star said that he knew during the audition that he was not the right actor for the part, which eventually went to director George Lucas's American Graffiti star Harrison Ford.

Stallone said: "As a matter of fact I did [audition for Star Wars] and it didn’t meet with much approval since when I stood in front of George Lucas he didn't look at me once, obviously being very shy. Then I said, 'Well obviously I'm not the right type' but it all worked out for the best since I don’t look good in spandex holding a ray gun."

Other actors who tried out for the Han Solo role include Kurt Russell, Nick Nolte and Christopher Walken.

The Expendables, which sees Stallone lead a group of mercenaries on a deadly mission in South America, opens in the US on Friday and August 19 in the UK.

'Avatar' sequels to film back-to-back?

James Cameron has revealed that he may shoot two Avatar sequels back-to-back.

The filmmaker told MTV that, although no contracts have been confirmed for a return to Pandora, he has already started to think about storylines for the follow-up to his record-breaking blockbuster.

He said: "Avatar 2... we're still working on deals. We don't start the movie until we get the deals worked out. I'm making notes. I'm not sitting idle."

On whether or not the sequels will film concurrently, Cameron said: "We're actually talking about that. That's not a decision yet. That is something that makes a lot of sense, given the nature of these productions, because we can bank all the [motion] capture and then go back and do cameras over a period of time."

The director added that live-action movies that shoot back-to-back suffered towards the latter stages due to a tired cast and crew.

"The way these back-to-back productions fall apart is that you're trying to do two live-action films back to back, and you're working on it for a year and a half, shooting," he explained. "Everyone is dead. It's not humanly possible. This type of film, it absolutely would work."

"The good news is that Don is working on the film script and has a big-time Hollywood producer who wants to do it," said Bakula. "It's about time."

Watson 'cut hair for Dragon Tattoo role'

Emma Watson cut her hair in an attempt to land the lead female role in the US remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, it has been claimed.

The 20-year-old, who showed off her new cropped hairstyle last week, has auditioned for the part of Lisbeth Salander in the Hollywood adaptation of Stieg Larsson's novel, reports The Sun.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is the first book in Larsson's Millennium Trilogy, and follows journalist Mikael Blomkvist's investigation into the 40-year-old disappearance of a teenage girl.
