Blake Lively: 'Green Lantern is unique'

Blake Lively has praised Green Lantern for being "unique" in its settings.

It was revealed earlier this year that the Gossip Girl actress had landed the role of Carol Ferris alongside Ryan Reynold's Hal Jordan in the movie.

Lively told MTV News that she was excited about the film's setting changing from Earth to space.

"That's what's so nice about it," she said.

"Superhero movies, [you're] either in a specific city on planet Earth, or in space. But the fact that you get to go back and forth [in Green Lantern] is a unique thing that you haven't seen in many movies."

The 20-year-old also teased her character's on-screen dynamic with Reynolds.

"She's [Jordan's] boss and she's also a fighter pilot," she said. "She's only second to him. They're the [top] two pilots in the world."

She added: "So she's also his rival, and so it creates a really interesting dynamic and a cool tension."

Script delaying 'Gears Of War' movie

Work on the Gears Of War movie has been delayed due to changes in budget and theme.

Series designer Cliff Bleszinksi explained that the original script chosen by director Len Wiseman would have cost $100 million to make, would have been rated-R and contained no love story, according to Cinema Blend.

Since Wiseman left the project in April, the aim is to create something “more like District 9” than 2012 and with a tighter budget before pursuing a director to take on the film.

Gears Of War 3 will be released on April 8, 2011.

Producers "panicked" about Bond future

James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are reportedly "panicked" about the future of their spy series.

The 23rd 007 outing has been put on hold indefinitely due to the financial uncertainty surrounding MGM, the studio that owns the rights to the Bond franchise and is up for sale with £4 billion worth of debt.

An MGM insider told The Hollywood Reporter: "They're completely panicked that if they go five, six years without a Bond movie, it'll be over. They don't want to kill the golden goose."

Broccoli allegedly wants Sony or Time Warner to buy MGM, but is concerned about a potential Lionsgate takeover because the studio's entire 12-month production budget is less than the cost of a Bond movie.

Star Daniel Craig has insisted that he will return to play Bond a third time when the studio's financial woes have been resolved, with the MGM source adding that executives admired Broccoli and Wilson for making the "bold strokes" move of casting him.

"Barbara said, 'I really like this guy, Daniel Craig'," the source commented. "We were horrified. We liked Eric Bana, Hugh Jackman. To her credit, she thought Craig was a great actor, had this magnetism. We wanted to do one more with Pierce Brosnan... [the producers] are generally cautious, but they are capable of doing bold strokes."

Former Bond screenwriter Bruce Feirstein, who penned the latest 007 video game Blood Stone, said that he is certain the character will be back for more movies.

"I'm not worried about 007," he said. "There's a line at the end of every movie which we used in the video game: It's that James Bond will return... It's been true for 50 years. A hiccup like what's going on at MGM is not going to change that."

Duncan Jones 'turned down Judge Dredd'

Moon director Duncan Jones has revealed that he turned down the chance to helm the Judge Dredd movie.

The British filmmaker, who is a fan of the 2000AD comic book character, revealed to Man Made Movies that he was sent the script for Alex Garland's adaptation before Vantage Point's Pete Travis was named as director.

Jones admitted that he didn't want to make Garland's script because it didn't match his specific vision for the character.

"I would have loved to do the Judge Dredd movie that is under way," he said. "I was in fact sent the script to look at. It's a great script, and I hope I will not rue the decision of passing on it. Thing was, I had such a strong idea of what I wanted to do with a Dredd movie, I could not bring myself to take it on and not do it my way!"

He continued: "My Dredd would have been really weird, and dark and funny, but not your traditional introduction to a hero character. I don't even know if I could have made my version of the film pitch-able. It was maybe too off the wall."

Karl Urban will lead the cast of the new Judge Dredd project, which is scheduled to begin production in the autumn.

Jones's next movie, sci-fi thriller Source Code starring Jake Gyllenhaal, will be released next year

Evans "nervous" about 'Captain America'

Chris Evans has admitted that he had reservations about taking on the lead role in Captain America.

Talking with MTV News, the actor said that he is "nervous" about the high-profile project as it means accepting a higher level of fame.

"No, it wasn't an easy yes. I get nervous. I get nervous in things like this (interviews and public appearances). Captain America means a lot of this," he explained.

However, he added that his anxiety about the role has not kept him from enjoying his involvement with the film.

"There's nothing wrong with the project. I love the people involved, the character, the script, Hugo [Weaving]. There was nothing wrong there, it was just about the lifestyle change and whether or not I was willing to do it," he said.

Del Toro helming 'Mountains Of Madness'

Guillermo del Toro will next make a 3D adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's tale At The Mountains Of Madness.

The Hellboy director has teamed up with producer James Cameron to steer the big budget horror movie for Universal.

Lovecraft's serialised story centres on a scientific expedition to Antarctica where a geologist discovers a chain of mountains that leads to the remains of uncharted life forms.

Del Toro has spent several years attempting to get the project made and has often cited budget requirements as a reason why the project has been long in-development.

He recently told Coming Soon: "What Mountains Of Madness is is a throwback to something nobody does anymore, it's tentpole horror. Everybody now understands horror as minimum investment, maximum return... The studio sees horror movies as something they will not invest more than $30-40 million [in]. Mountains Of Madness needs to be tentpole in the way that the tentpole movies of the past were, about $130 million."

At The Mountains Of Madness is being scheduled for production next summer.

Del Toro is also working on a remake of Disney's The Haunted Mansion.
