Mendes not returning for 'Ghost Rider 2'

Eva Mendes has revealed that she will not be returning for the upcoming Ghost Rider sequel alongside Nicolas Cage.

Superhero Hype confirmed the news at a press junket yesterday for Mendes's new film The Other Guys.

"No, unfortunately," was Mendes's response to whether she would be reprising her role as Cage's love interest Roxanne Simpson in the tentatively titled Ghost Rider:Spirit of Vengeance, due to begin filming this November.

It is unknown at this stage whether the part of Roxanne will be recast or if the studio will instead use another female character from Marvel's Ghost Rider comic book series.

Cage confirmed in July that he will reprise his role as Johnny Blaze aka Ghost Rider in the update, which Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor are reportedly in negotiations to direct.

Stallone: 'Batman changed action movies'

Sylvester Stallone has claimed that the casting of Michael Keaton in Batman changed action movies.

Stallone, who can next be seen in ensemble blockbuster The Expendables, said that the genre "changed radically" when Tim Burton put Keaton in a muscle suit for the superhero role.

"It was that first Batman movie," he told the Los Angeles Times. "The action movies changed radically when it became possible to Velcro your muscles on.

"It was the beginning of a new era. The visual took over. The special effects became more important than the single person. That was the beginning of the end."

He continued: "I wish I had thought of Velcro muscles myself. I didn't have to go to the gym for all those years, all the hours wedded to the iron game, as we call it."

The Expendables, co-starring Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger, opens in cinemas next month.

Five compete for 'Dragon Tattoo' lead

Five actresses are in the running for the role of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, reports IndieWire.

Director David Fincher screen-tested five finalists this week for the coveted part, all of them relatively unknown or up-and-coming stars. Australians Emily Browning, Sophie Lowe, Sarah Snook, American Rooney Mara and an unnamed French actress are said to be the five competing to play bisexual hacker Salander.

Browning is the most established actress of the group, having had roles in Lemony Snicket, horror The Uninvited and the upcoming Sucker Punch, while Mara has a role in Fincher's Facebook movie The Social Network.

Carey Mulligan and Kristen Stewart have previously expressed an interest in starring in the Dragon Tattoo movies.

Fincher has reportedly told the five actresses to work on their Swedish accents, suggesting that Salander and the story's location won't be Americanised. The movies are based on Stieg Larsson's best-selling Millennium Trilogy, which have already been adapted for the screen in Sweden.

Daniel Craig is the frontrunner to play journalist Mikael Blomkvist, although scheduling problems with the James Bond series and a potential Cowboys & Aliens franchise could take him out of the running.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo will open in cinemas on December 21, 2011.

Captain America' film won't be "jingoistic"

Captain America director Joe Johnston has said that his big screen portrayal of the Marvel superhero won't be jingoistic.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Johnston insisted that Chris Evans's Steve Rogers will bring a "different spin" to the character traditionally seen as overly patriotic.

"He wants to serve his country, but he's not this sort of jingoistic American flag-waver," the director said. "He's just a good person. We make a point of that in the script: Don't change who you are once you go from Steve Rogers to this super-soldier, you have to stay who you are inside, that's really what's important more than your strength and everything.

"It'll be interesting and fun to put a different spin on the character and one that the fans are really going to appreciate."

Evans will be joined by Hayley Atwell, Dominic Cooper, Sebastian Stan, Hugo Weaving, Stanley Tucci and Tommy Lee Jones in the cast for Captain America, which opens in cinemas next summer.

Guillermo del Toro to make 'Haunted Mansion'

Guillermo del Toro will develop and produce a 3D remake of The Haunted Mansion.

The filmmaker, who recently dropped out of helming The Hobbit, announced at Comic-Con that he is making a "scary and fun" movie based on the Disney theme park attraction.

"We are not returning Eddie Murphy's calls," del Toro quipped, referring to the 2003 film based on the ride. "We are not making it a comedy... We are making it scary and fun, but the scary will be scary."

Del Toro added in a Disney press release: “Dark imagery is an integral part of the Walt Disney legacy. After all, Disney himself was the father of some really chilling moments and characters - think Chernabog from Fantasia or Maleficent as the Dragon or the Evil Queen in Snow White.

“I couldn't be more excited to be a part of my own adaptation of the original theme park attraction Walt envisioned and that remains - for me - the most desirable piece of real estate in the whole world!"

Tina Fey regrets not doing 'Mean Girls 2'

Tina Fey has admitted that she regrets turning down the opportunity to make Mean Girls 2.

The 30 Rock star, who wrote and starred in the 2004 original, told Movieline that she declined offers from Paramount to make the sequel, which started filming this month as a straight-to-DVD production.

“It’s funny, because now it’s shooting and I don’t really have anything to do with it,” said Fey. "I haven’t read it or anything like that. Paramount was very generous and solicitous with me for several years, saying, 'Would you like to do it?' And at the time, I was like, 'They should just let it be what it is!'"

She continued: “Now, its like, why not just do it? I should have done it, because now it’s happening anyway!”

Desperate Housewives star Maiara Walsh, Nicole Gale Anderson, Jennifer Stone and Meaghan Jette Martin are among the cast for the new Mean Girls, which centres on two girls facing off against popular high-schoolers 'The Plastics'.

Koules told USA Today that the long-running franchise will come to a close with the release of Saw 3D later this year.

He said: "It's time to stop. We have told the story we wanted to tell, and this is going to be a great farewell."
