Eva Mendes: 'People find me funny'
Eva Mendes has revealed that she is happiest as an actress when performing in comedic films.
In an interview with W, the star said that she was grateful for her role in upcoming movie The Other Guys as it gave her a chance to portray a humorous character.
The story revolves around Mendes's dancer-turned-doctor Sheila Gamble, whose police officer husband (played by Will Ferrell) is completely unaware of how attractive she is.
"It's very hard for me to be seen as funny, and the truth is, that's where I'm most comfortable," she explained.
"These are the two comments I get from people when they meet me. 'You seem a lot taller on film', and, 'You're funny'. If people hang out with me, they see I'm a ham."
Mendes added that she found the project "completely liberating" as it allowed her to delve into different sides of herself than she is usually able to as an actress.
"Never have I had so much fun with a character and felt so natural at it. Had I done this movie three years ago, I wouldn't have had the confidence to throw it back at Will, and now, if anything, I was overly confident. I didn't know when to stop!"
The Other Guys opens in the US on August 6.
