LaBeouf: 'Transformers 3 will be best yet'

Shia LaBeouf has claimed that the third Transformers movie will be the best of the series.

Speaking to The AP, the actor revealed that the film's script will restore the human relationship elements that he believes were lost in the second movie.

"When I saw the second movie, I wasn't impressed with what we did. There were some really wild stunts in it, but the heart was gone," the 23-year-old said.

He added: "We tried to get bigger… [The director] Mike [Bay] went so big that it became too big, and I think you lost the anchor of the movie.

"You lost a bit of the relationships. Unless you have those relationships, then the movie doesn't matter. Then it's just a bunch of robots fighting each other."

LaBeouf also explained that the third instalment will feature many human casualties.

He continued: "It's going to be the craziest action movie ever made, or we failed."

Transformers 3 is scheduled to open in the US on July 1, 2011.

Stone: 'Time had come for Wall Street 2'

Oliver Stone has confirmed that he would not have been interested in filming a follow-up to Wall Street were it not for the financial crisis.

Speaking to reporters after the Cannes screening of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, the director said that he had rejected initial plans for a sequel.

Stone said: "Michael Douglas and [producer] Ed Pressman approached me in 2006 and I didn't want to celebrate that culture of wealth.

"It was ongoing and it just seemed to be getting worse and worse and there seemed no reason to make a movie. After the crash all bets were off because really it was a major heart attack."

He added: "It was a triple bypass - I think they put a stent in but I'm not sure if they've solved it. So this is serious. It puts the whole world into a new perspective. It's time to come back and get Gordon Gekko.

"Mike and Ed were right - they came back to me in 2008 with a second script, which was better - much better - which became the basis of this movie... It had to be done, its time had come."

Stone also admitted that he had "some doubts" about making a follow-up to his 1987 original, adding that star Michael Douglas had first approached him about directing Money Never Sleeps.

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps is currently screening at the Cannes Film Festival.

Hamill confirmed to direct 'Black Pearl'

Mark Hamill will direct a feature adaptation of his comic book The Black Pearl through his newly-formed Berkeley Square Films company, it has been confirmed.

The Star Wars actor's Dark Horse Comics story, first published in 1996, centres on Luther Drake, a loner who is brought up on a diet of violent films, tabloid TV and comics. When a young neighbour is kidnapped, he takes justice into his own hands and becomes a vigilante.

"It's a dark and raw suspense thriller, a prowling de-glamorisation of the usual mega-budget Hollywood revenge fantasy with an edgy, real world documentary style that deconstructs the familiar comic book conventions, stands them on their head and leaves the audience with a Sixth Sense or The Usual Suspects-type twist ending," Hamill said.

Berkeley Square Films partner Paul Tamasy and his writing collaborator Eric Johnson (the upcoming Mark Walhberg boxing drama The Fighter) have co-written the screenplay with Hamill. The Dark Knight's Michael Uslan is serving as producer.

The project, to be budgeted at around the $7 million mark, has been described as "more Fargo and Taxi Driver than Batman".
