Don Cheadle's War Machine in 'Avengers'?
Don Cheadle has confirmed that he is signed up to play Iron Man character Colonel James Rhodes, aka War Machine, in multiple sequels.
With Iron Man 2 currently in cinemas, Robert Downey Jr has said that a third Iron Man movie is likely to come after The Avengers, which is currently expected to arrive in May, 2012. This has led to speculation that Cheadle's character may join the cast of the team-up, already known to include Captain America, the Hulk, Thor and Iron Man.
When asked if he had been signed for multiple films, Cheadle told Newsarama: "Yeah, there are more. I don’t want to say the exact number but there are multiple ones.
“Quite honestly we wrapped the movie so long ago and if the next one were to happen, it’s going to happen after Thor, Captain America, and Robert is going to do another Sherlock Holmes so it’s going to be a minute.
He added: "It’s its own train on its own track so you just let that happen and go about your life until they come back and say let’s do another one."
Cheadle has previously said that there are no plans for a War Machine solo movie, though the character's co-creator Bob Layton said that Jim Rhodes has the potential to replace Tony Stark in the the Avengers line-up.
Currently in the pipeline for The Avengers franchise are The First Avenger: Captain America, Thor and The Avengers movie itself. Actor Samuel L Jackson signed to appear as the character Nick Fury in nine Marvel Entertainment films, though it is still unknown what several of these titles might be.
