Chris Evans signs to play Captain America
Chris Evans has signed to play Captain America, says The Hollywood Reporter.
The Push star was reportedly offered the role last week, but negotiations were delayed until today.
Marvel Studios has apparently contracted the 28-year-old to star in the upcoming The First Avenger: Captain America and to feature in several more Marvel movies, including The Avengers.
Marvel and the actor's representatives have yet to confirm this development.
Evans played Human Torch/Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four movies and will next be seen in The Losers, arriving in US cinemas on April 23, and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, slated for an August 13 release.
Captain America is expected to begin production this summer.
The casting of Evans ends the month-long speculation about who would take on the superhero role. John Krasinski, Chace Crawford, Mike Vogel, Michael Cassidy, Scott Porter and Ryan Phillipe were among the actors reported to be up for the part.
