Ritchie confirmed for 'King Arthur' project

Guy Ritchie has attached himself to direct Warner Bros's retelling of King Arthur, reports Variety.

The director was earlier linked to a separate Arthur project scripted by Warren Ellis, but has instead chosen to reteam with the Sherlock Holmes studio to helm John Hodge's (Trainspotting) script.

The movie will rework Arthurian legend to show how the sixth century British ruler defeated Saxon invaders. It will take inspiration from Thomas Mallory's Le Morte d'Arthur, a compilation of French and English tales from 1485.

Ritchie is also at work on a Holmes sequel, rumoured to be shooting this year.

Kathryn Bigelow 'turned down Spider-Man'

Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow reportedly turned down the chance to direct Sony's Spider-Man reboot.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the Hurt Locker director was initially sounded out to make the latest Marvel webslinger film but snubbed the studio's offer.

The job eventually went to (500) Days Of Summer's Marc Webb.

Bigelow, who became the first woman to pick up a 'Best Director' Academy Award on Sunday, will likely make action project Triple Frontier her next movie.

"[It] takes place in South America in a region called the Triple Frontier, it's where Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil meet. It's a fairly lawless area of America. Potentially a very rich environment for much drama," she told DS of the film last year.

Bridges wanted Gyllenhaal for 'Crazy Heart'

Jeff Bridges has revealed that he always wanted Maggie Gyllenhaal to play his love interest in Crazy Heart.

The 60-year-old actor, who won an Oscar last Sunday for his performance in the film, said that he "admired her acting".

"I've been following her, she's a great actress, she disappears into the role and becomes that person. She was on the top of my list of actresses that I kind of imagined in that role," he said.

Gyllenhaal had previously appeared in Donnie Darko in 2001 before making her breakthrough role the year after in Secretary.

Bridges later told DS: "I thought about having a more 'age appropriate' relationship, but the story didn't lend itself to that somehow. It felt better to do it this way.

"As far as how it felt doing it; I mean, I still think of myself as 25! I can't believe I'm 60 years old. I mean, come on! You know?"

Nolan plays down Batman, Superman crossover

Christopher Nolan has said that the revamped Superman series will not cross over with his Batman films.

Nolan, who is guiding the new Man Of Steel project with his Batman collaborators Emma Thomas and David Goyer, told the Los Angeles Times that the superheroes will not appear in each other's movies.

"Each serves to the internal logic of the story. They have nothing to do with each other," he said.

The British filmmaker added that it was Goyer who first approached him about reviving the dormant Superman franchise: "He basically told me, 'I have this thought about how you would approach Superman'. I immediately got it, loved it and thought: That is a way of approaching the story I've never seen before that makes it incredibly exciting.

"I wanted to get Emma and I involved in shepherding the project right away and getting it to the studio and getting it going in an exciting way."

Nolan also suggested that the follow-up to his third Batman project The Dark Knight will be his last.

"Without getting into specifics, the key thing that makes the third film a great possibility for us is that we want to finish our story, and in viewing it as the finishing of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story," he explained.

"We have a great ensemble, that's one of the attractions of doing another film, since we've been having a great time for years."

Nolan to cast 'Superman' with A-list stars

Christopher Nolan has revealed that he will cast his Superman reboot with big name stars.

The Dark Knight director, who is shepherding a new Man Of Steel project to the screen with writer David Goyer, said that he is taking inspiration from the A-list cast of the original Superman, which featured Gene Hackman, Marlon Brando and Terence Stamp in supporting roles.

"I went [in] with the analogy of, 'I want to cast the way they did in 1978 with Superman'. They had Brando and Glenn Ford and Ned Beatty and all these fantastic actors in even small parts, which was an exotic idea for a superhero movie at the time. It really paid off too," Nolan told the Los Angeles Times.

"As a kid watching Superman it seemed enormous and I realised later by looking at it that a lot of that was actually the casting, just having these incredibly talented people and these characterisations. And Marlon Brando is the first guy up playing Superman's dad. It's incredible."

Nolan outlines 'Superman' approach

Christopher Nolan has revealed further details of his approach towards the next Superman film.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the Dark Knight director outlined his and writer David Goyer's ideas for the movie.

"We're approaching it in a not dissimilar way in terms of trying to find an incredible story in a way that audiences can engage with it, the way they engage with contemporary action films," he told the newspaper. "I think David’s approach is a very good way of doing just that.

"A lot of people have approached Superman in a lot of different ways. I only know the way that has worked for us, that’s what I know how to do. Each serves to the internal logic of the story. They have nothing to do with each other."

However, Nolan refused to comment on speculation that the reboot will be titled The Man Of Steel, and downplayed reports that Superman will battle Lex Luthor and Brainiac in the film.

A director for the movie is yet to be announced, but rumour has suggested that Nolan's brother Jonathan could make his directorial debut on the project.

Quentin Tarantino 'wants to make rom-com'

Quentin Tarantino has revealed that he would love to work on a romantic comedy.

The Inglorious Basterds director explained that he has incorporated love stories into his other films.

"I'd love to make a romantic comedy and take it out of the ghetto it's been exiled to," he told Film.com. "I have done love stories, they've just been in my other movies.

"True Romance's title was not ironic. Sure, James Gandolfini almost beats Patricia Arquette to death and she has to blow him away with a shotgun, but that doesn't mean it's not romantic.

"It just has to be done my way and I think people want me to do it my way."

Tarantino has also recently expressed an interest in making a Western set in the time of slavery.
