Vaughn: 'I want to make 'Sandman' movie'

Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn has revealed that he would "love" to make a film based on Neil Gaiman's Sandman comic.

Vaughn was discussing his approach to making Kick-Ass - a film based on Mark Millar and John Romita Jr's popular comic - when he was quizzed about his dream project.

He told CBR: "You know what, I would love to do Sandman, but I think it's stuck in development hell. But that could be, like, a Lord of the Rings, just a huge movie."

Vaughn, who came close to directing the third X-Men film, admitted that he currently struggles to read more conventional superhero comics.

He said: "It's funny, my taste in comics, I was talking to Mark about it, I sort of go in and out about what I like and don't like. At the moment, I can't read Spider-Man. Maybe I've just gotten too old for it. I don't know what it is."

Kick-Ass is scheduled to be released by Lionsgate on April 16, 2010.

Damon: 'New Bourne could be a prequel'

Matt Damon has suggested that the next Jason Bourne outing could be a prequel to his three movies.

The Invictus star, who previously stated that he would not return to the series unless Paul Greengrass came back to the director's chair, admitted that a sequel to The Bourne Ultimatum could be "five years away".

"There'll probably be a prequel of some kind with another actor and another director before we do another one just because I think we're probably another five years away from doing it - we've got to get a script..." he told Empire.

Damon will reteam with Greengrass for next month's Iraq-set thriller Green Zone, about a soldier who uncovers a government conspiracy in Baghdad.

'Judge Dredd' reboot 'closer to comics'

The creator of Judge Dredd has claimed that the upcoming film reboot will be closer to the original comics than the 1995 Sylvester Stallone effort.

In an interview with 2000AD Review, John Wagner said that Alex Garland's script for the new film, and its accompanying concept art by comics illustrator Jock, are true to the source material.

"I have read the script and seen Jock's visuals. While I can't go into detail about the content I can say that it's high-octane, edge-of-the-seat stuff, and gives a far truer representation of Dredd than the first movie," he said.

"I hated that plot. It was Dredd pressed through the Hollywood cliché mill, a dynastic power struggle that had little connection with the character we know from the comic."

Video game developer Rebellion currently holds the rights to the property. A big screen reboot was announced in December 2008 when the studio teamed up with DNA Films.

Judge Dredd is one of the UK's best known comic book characters, having first appeared in the 2000AD science fiction anthology in 1977. The law enforcer has since featured in novels, video games and other media.

'Transformers 3' coming in 3D?

Paramount is considering making the next Transformers in 3D.

According to Variety, the studio, director Michael Bay and visual effects firm Industrial Light & Magic have held discussion about producing the next robot blockbuster using the latest digital techniques.

The ongoing talks are to decide if Transformers 3 should be filmed with 3D cameras or converted to the format after production is completed.

Bay last year said that he was resistant to directing a 3D movie, claiming that the technology might be "a fad".

"The way I shoot is too aggressive for 3D cameras. It's a time-consuming thing," he said. "Who knows... it might be a fad. I'm kind of old school. I'm old school because I like to shoot on film. I like anamorphic lenses, and that is old school."

The follow-up to Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen is scheduled to open on July 1, 2011.

Hamilton admits 'Terminator 4' disappointment

Linda Hamilton has admitted that Terminator Salvation failed to live up to her expectations.

The actress, who appeared as Sarah Connor in the first two James Cameron-helmed action films, told DS that she also had reservations about Arnold Schwarzenegger's digital cameo in the franchise's fourth instalment.

"It was strange. I'm not sure that it was 100% successful, either," she said referring to director McG's CGI recreation of Schwarzenegger. "The film was not nearly as exciting as I thought it should be, which is funny because it had all those elements and good actors. You can take everything, throw everything and the kitchen sink in and it still was not a James Cameron film."

Discussing Lena Headey, who replaced her as Connor for the short-lived Sarah Connor Chronicles TV series, Hamilton said that the Brit actress had a "difficult" job taking over the part.

"She was very good, very good. I know how difficult it is to step into someone's shoes, or to fill someone's shoes," Hamilton commented. "I would never want to be the standard. I guess it's great that I'm the standard, but each one of us has our own special gifts that we can bring to a part. She wasn't trying to be Linda Hamilton, she was trying to play Sarah Connor. Her version if just as valid as mine."

Johnston also confirmed plans to shoot the blockbuster in Britain, saying: "We're getting ready to go to the UK, it looks like."

Sam Worthington and Jensen Ackles have been linked to the role of the Marvel hero, a man who undergoes experimental treatment and becomes a supersoldier in World War II.

Universal has claimed that it hasn't yet decided on a storyline for the next Jason Bourne movie.

Franchise star Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass walked out on the fourth film last year, and Damon speculated earlier this week that the studio may be considering rebooting the franchise with a younger actor.

"Bourne is one of our best and most important franchises. Whatever we do, we're going to make sure we get it right," a Universal source told Entertainment Weekly.

Further insiders have indicated that several ideas are being explored for the new Bourne, including hiring an up-and-coming director to tempt Damon back into the role.

"He has to drive past my Union flag every day? I saw him one day - I think he's got an old green Rover - and I gave him a little wave," Jones told The Sun.

"I just missed out on his film Inglourious Basterds. It was between me and one other bloke for a part.

"He knows where I am, Quentin. He said some great things after [I filmed] Snatch, which I've never forgotten."

Carrie Underwood lands debut movie role
