Final 'Harry Potters' to be released in 3D

Warner Bros has confirmed that it will release the next Harry Potter films in 3D.

The two Deathly Hallows movies, which are based on JK Rowling's final book in the wizard series, will cost $5 million a piece to convert to the 3D format, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The news comes in the week that James Cameron's 3D space epic Avatar smashed the $1.843 billion all-time box office record held by Titanic.

Last year's Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince included 3D footage for its IMAX screenings.

Warner has also firmed up plans to bring out its Clash Of The Titans remake in 3D and has pushed back its release until April 2 in order to complete the conversion.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part I will open on November 19 this year, with Part II following on July 15, 2011.

Ritchie leaves 'Lobo' to make 'Holmes 2'

Guy Ritchie has dropped out of directing DC Comics adaptation Lobo to concentrate on making a sequel to Sherlock Holmes.

Producer Joel Silver told the Los Angeles Times that Warner Bros has shifted attention away from the comic book movie in order to move forward with the Holmes follow-up.

"I don't think he's going to do [Lobo] now," Silver said. "The studio wants us and Guy to focus on making another Sherlock Holmes. So I think we're going to be doing that. But we're seeing what happens with this."

Silver added that stars Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law are keen to reprise their roles as the Baker Street sleuth and his sidekick Watson, but Brad Pitt is not confirmed as the pair's nemesis Professor Moriarty.

"Well, I mean, we talked about [casting Pitt] at one point, but you know as of right now we're not sure what we're going to do. We'll see what happens," he explained.

Brosnan 'has never seen Craig's 007'

Pierce Brosnan has revealed that he is yet to see either of Daniel Craig's James Bond films.

The former 007 star admitted during an interview this week that he feels fate is obstructing him from watching his successor, Contactmusic reports.

"I haven't seen Daniel in the role," he said. "I tried watching [Casino Royale] on an airplane, I thought 37,000 feet was a good distance to watch it from and it broke down right at the beginning. The attendant came and changed it and it broke down a second time, so I figured 'OK. The Gods must be saying something.'

"So I never went near it!" Brosnan explained. "I just thought, 'let sleeping dogs lie'. I got the Academy screener for the last one [Quantum of Solace] and I turned it on for my boys and I left them to it. I didn’t go near it."

Orlando Bloom confirms 'Pirates' exit

Orlando Bloom has confirmed that he will not be reprising his role in the next Pirates Of The Caribbean movie, but insisted that he is looking forward to watching it.

The actor, who starred as Will Turner in the first three movies in the Disney franchise, told MTV News that he will "definitely" not be joining Johnny Depp for the fourth instalment.

"No, definitely not. I think Will is sort of swimming around with the fish at the bottom of the ocean," he explained.

"I had a great time making those movies. I just really also wanted to do different things, but I think it's going to be great. Whatever Johnny does, it's always fantastic."

When asked about the addition of Chicago director Rob Marshall to the series, he replied: "I think he's an amazing director. I think it will be a very interesting fit, because Johnny is musical anyway and I'm sure that something really beautiful will come out of it."

Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 is scheduled to begin filming in Hawaii this summer with an expected release date of 2011.

Gervais: 'Lying has $3 million DVD extra'

Ricky Gervais has revealed that the Invention Of Lying DVD and Blu-ray may contain the most expensive extra feature of all time.

Speaking to DS, the comic star explained that he had filmed a pre-credit sequence, featuring his podcast contributor Karl Pilkington, which explained human evolution. However, Gervais and co-director Matt Robinson eventually decided to cut the scene.

"I didn't cut [Karl Pilkington] to annoy him, although that was a funny bonus that everything he did was pointless. I dressed him up as a little caveman and gave him a little bald wig, he was the first bald caveman!" Gervais said.

"We think it might be the most expensive DVD extra of all time, it cost about $3 million. It was originally going to be a pre-credit sequence explaining the evolution of man but then I thought we didn't need it so we cut it. It's like a short film on the DVD. Nothing's wasted."

The 48-year-old added that he would regularly incite nerf gun battles on set, with Rob Lowe being his primary target.

"[He's] way too handsome," Gervais remarked. "I got him right between the eyes."

Feige makes Marvel movie predictions

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has listed movie adaptations that could follow 2012's Avengers film.

Feige told SFX Magazine which characters he would like to see in future Marvel films.

"I love Doctor Strange," he said. "Ant-Man is like [Iron Man 2 villain] Whiplash - one of those characters where you're like, 'Really?' that we've got a fun story with.

"I've always wanted to do something with Black Panther. I think what Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction have done with Iron Fist lately is great, and the Iron Fist mythology opens up a whole other part to us."

Feige also said that he would like to explore Marvel's cosmic titles in the future.

"I want to do a big space epic," he said. "And we've got them in Marvel."

No 3D for next 'Scream' instalment?

Scream 4 screenwriter Kevin Williamson has revealed that the horror sequel won't film in 3D.

Despite the popularity of the trend, especially in franchise films, Williamson said that he doesn't think 3D is an option for Scream 4.

"I don't think Scream lends itself to a 3D film. 3D films are all about things being thrown at you," he told IESB.

Williamson added: "One of the things that Scream does is that it talks about those movies and sends them up, so actually putting in that device probably wouldn't work.

"I don't think it's an option. We're the movie that makes fun of it. I can imagine Stab being done in 3D, but not Scream."

Williamson again confirmed that the film will star original trilogy actors Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette.

Matt Damon confesses 'Invictus' doubt

Matt Damon has admitted that he had concerns playing a rugby player in his new film Invictus.

The Hollywood actor, who portrays 6ft 4in former South African captain Francois Pienaar, has revealed that he worried his 5ft 10in frame wasn't enough to authenticate the role, STV reports.

The Oscar winner said: "He's quite a physical specimen. He's 6ft 4in and about 230lbs and I'm 5ft 10in. It was a lot of work to capture Francois physically, but then I spent time talking to him and understanding the stakes of this movie."

The 39-year-old also said that although director Clint Eastwood assisted, he embarked on a rigorous training regime in an attempt to morph his body.

He added: "Clint used tricks and camera angles to make me look taller than I actually am, but, before we started filming, I spent six months doing rigorous physical training trying to change my body."

Invictus is currently playing in US cinemas and is released in the UK on February 5.

Joe Johnston gives 'Cap America' update

Director Joe Johnston has given fans an update on the progress of Marvel Studios' The First Avenger: Captain America.

He revealed the current plan was to begin the film during World War II and jump forward to see the superhero in the present day - avoiding comic book material from the 1960s and 70s.

Johnston told Film Journal: "We're in prep. Rick Heinrichs is production-designing and we're set up down in Manhattan Beach [California].

"It's the part of the process that I love the most. We have eight or ten really talented artists, and we all just sit around all day and draw pictures and say, 'Hey, wouldn't it be cool if we could do this?'

"It's that phase of the production where money doesn't matter, 'Let's put all the greatest stuff up on the wall and [then later] see what we can afford'."

The First Avenger: Captain America is due for release on July 22, 2011.
