Rodriguez: 'Sin City 2 is not my next film'

Director Robert Rodriguez has said that Sin City 2 will not be his next film.

Despite reports that production on the movie adaptation of Dark Horse comic Sin City - written and illustrated by Frank Miller - will begin in the second half of 2010, Rodriguez indicated that the status of the sequel to his 2005 film is less certain.

"I can't say no, because I don't know it's no," Rodriguez told Coming Soon. "I know Frank wants to do it. I know I want to do it. It's always sort of a 'time permitting' kind of thing.

"But it's not like I can tell you definitely we're starting. It's not my next picture, I know that. It doesn't mean that it's not the picture right after because that's still a possibility."

Rodriguez recently announced that he is working on a reboot of the Spy Kids franchise.

'Sherlock Holmes' was pitched as comic

Sherlock Holmes producer Lionel Wigram has revealed that he pitched the movie to Warner Bros in the form of a comic.

Wigram said that he had a comic-style pamphlet made in order to convince the studio to make the film.

"Basically, I saw a quite different version [of Sherlock Holmes] in my head than I had ever seen in any movie," he told CBR.

"I thought, how do I convey that to Warner Bros in a way that they'll get it, and understand that Holmes isn't that stuffy guy with a deerstalker [hat] and a pipe? If you go back to the original Conan Doyle stories, he's a much more modern, interesting and contemporary character than he is in a lot of the later movies.

"I thought the best way to do that was to put it in a presentation, which I sort of called a comic book. I wrote the story, and then I had this amazing artist called John Watkiss - draw these panels - and he did about 30 panels.

"[I] put it together in a beautiful pamphlet, I gave it to Warner Bros and that's sort of what sold them on it. [Holmes] had stubble, a gun in one hand, a sword in the other. They said, 'OK, we get it - that's the Sherlock Holmes we want to see'."

Sherlock Holmes is released in cinemas on Christmas Day.

Wahlberg: 'I cried filming Lovely Bones'

Mark Wahlberg has revealed that he kept bursting into tears off set while making new movie The Lovely Bones.

The film, which also stars Rachel Weisz and Susan Sarandon, tells the story of a murdered girl looking down on her family.

Wahlberg told Movies Online: "I would just grab my daughter and hold her, and I would start crying. She'd be like, 'Daddy, what's wrong?' She just wanted to play.

"I would try to talk to her about taking care of herself and not talking to strangers. She was three at the time. But, thankfully, I had another movie to go to that helped me get out of that."

Wahlberg added that co-star Weisz impressed him with her ability to "just snap into it and have these floods of emotion coming out and then turn it all off".

Jude Law proud of 'edgy' Watson

Jude Law has spoken about his reinvention of Dr Watson in the new Sherlock Holmes movie.

The English actor, 36, stars as Holmes's sidekick alongside Robert Downey Jr. in Guy Ritchie's detective thriller.

"When I was asked to get involved, Robert was already set as Sherlock and Guy was directing and I knew from then that it was going to be a different take on the older films of Sherlock Holmes," Law told PA.

"They weren't asking me to put on two stone and fool around and put my foot in waste paper baskets, they were asking me to play Watson with a bit more edge.

"I hadn't read the books as a boy, so what was intriguing was to see how much of this new 'rediscovery' was already in the source material.

"It was a happy juggle between going back to Conan Doyle and relishing in all the accuracy that had perhaps been overlooked in the past, and also looking to the future and adding a new energy for an audience that we hope will discover Sherlock Holmes for the first time."

Sherlock Homes is released in cinemas on December 26.

Dunst to leave 'Spider-Man' films?

Actress Kirsten Dunst is to be written out of the Spider-Man movie franchise and replaced as leading lady by Anne Hathaway, according to reports.

It is believed that Spider-Man 4 could be the last outing for her character, Mary Jane Watson, who featured as Peter Parker's love interest in the first three films.

A source told Star magazine: "The plan is for her character to be written out, probably by dying.

"Anne will take over as Peter Parker's new love interest for this project and for Spider-Man 5 and Spider-Man 6 which are being written now.

"Anne's in L.A. doing a lot of meetings on the movie because filming is right around the corner."

Hathaway is rumoured to be playing the part of Felicia Hardy, known as Black Cat in the Marvel comic series but thought to go by the name Vultress in the film adaptation.

Filming on Spider-Man 4, directed by Sam Raimi and starring Tobey Maguire, is still expected to begin early next year for a May 5, 2011 release date.

Downey Jr 'should do romcoms with Law'

Robert Downey Jr has praised his Sherlock Holmes co-star Jude Law.

In an interview with Parade, Downey Jr joked that he and Law should appear in romantic comedies together.

"It's so funny to me because usually I'm just saying about a female co-star, 'We had this great chemistry'," he explained. "And now I'm saying the same thing about Jude. It's like we should be doing romantic comedies together or something.

"This film is a love affair of sorts and the two of us knew when to ying and when to yang. We were definitely good together."

Downey Jr added that he enjoyed working on a film version of the iconic books.

"The most exciting part for me was that we presented Watson as he actually was in the books by Conan Doyle," he revealed. "He was not, as he's been portrayed, some bumbling guy with his foot stuck in a wastebasket who's dumb compared to his brilliant roommate. These are two guys who make this fantastic team."
