Press Tour Scoop: 'Three Rivers' axed, 'Numb3rs' not dead

Greetings from the first day of Winter Press Tour, where CBS president Nina Tassler just tossed a few scoopbits our way during the network’s exec session. Here are the highlights…

* There are 18 episodes of Flashpoint in the can that “will make it to air at some point.”

* Charlie Sheen’s personal drama has had no impact on Two and a Half Men. Yet.

* Three Rivers is officially canceled. “We all know that when something is ‘on hiatus’ it’s code for something else,” Tassler cracked.

* Regarding CSI’s Laurence Fishburne problem, Tassler says he’s “finding his character… you can’t deny that [he] is a powerful actor. He has assimilated more into the ensemble. Audiences have found that as he is more comfortable with the team, the team is more comfortable with him.” She adds that research is showing that viewers now feel “he has arrived, he is settled, and he is part of the team,

* Numb3rs is “absolutely still in consideration” for next year. The show’s order was cut this season simply to make way for new midseason drama Miami Medical.

ABC to develop comedy with Matthew Perry

ABC announced today that it will develop a sitcom pilot called Mr. Sunshine that will star Matthew Perry. Written by Perry, Alex Barnow, and Marc Firek through Sony, the comedy focuses on a man (Perry) who realizes that, at 40, he can no longer fall back on his charm and sense of humor. His character also manages a local sports stadium in San Diego. Tommy Schlamme (The West Wing) will direct the pilot, which will be executive produced by Perry and Jamie Tarses, the former ABC entertainment president who now operates her own production shingle, Fan Fare. Perry told EW.com about the project in October. “We’re trying to do a show that’s really, really funny and can slow down and play some heartfelt moments” Perry said. “All of this stuff originally came from watching a lot of Alan Partridge and the British Office, and just wanting to go be funny again.”

CBS greenlights new 'Hawaii Five-O'

CBS has greenlit an update of classic cop show Hawaii Five-O.

The new version is produced by Star Trek screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci along with CSI executive producer Peter Lenkov, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The series will follow an elite team of Hawaii State Police investigators headed by Steve McGarret, played by Jack Lord in the original.

The first programme aired on CBS from 1968 to 1980.

The network attempted to revive the show last season with Criminal Minds producer Ed Bernero at the helm.

TNT picks up three new series, including Spielberg's alien-invasion show

TNT has given the greenlight to three new original series, the network announced Thursday. The three pick-ups are an untitled alien-invasion show from executive producer Steven Spielberg, in which Noah Wyle stars as the leader of a group of soldiers and civilians struggling against an occupying alien force; Delta Blues, produced by George Clooney and starring Jason Lee as a Memphis police officer who lives with his mother; and Rizzoli & Isles, a crime drama starring Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander. TNT has ordered 10 episodes of each show, with plans to have Delta Blues and Rizzoli & Isles premiere this year. Spielberg’s alien-invasion series is scheduled to debut in 2011.
