Haley to play 'Green Lantern' villain?

Watchmen actor Jackie Earle Haley could be in line to play Green Lantern villain Sinestro, it has been reported.

In an interview with MTV, the Oscar nominee revealed that he would jump at the chance to star opposite Ryan Reynolds in the comic book adaptation.

"I just heard about this, literally," he said. "I know the guys that are doing it. It's exciting to me. It makes me want to go get the Green Lantern comics and start reading up.

"I heard about [Ryan Reynolds being in it], I'd love to work with him."

Haley - who is also due to star as Freddy Kruger in next year's Nightmare On Elm Street reboot - admitted that he is unfamiliar with the Green Lantern source material.

"I don't know much about it. I'm a comics fan, but I haven't gotten into that one yet. I guess I'd better do my homework," he said.

Green Lantern is slated for release in 2011.

Bill Murray: 'McG deserves to die'

Bill Murray has blasted his Charlie's Angels director McG for claiming that he headbutted him on the movie's set.

The filmmaker made the allegation while promoting Terminator Salvation over the summer. However, Murray has now hit back at the director, accusing him of fabricating the story.

"That's bulls**t! That's complete crap!" said Murray in an interview with The Times. "I don't know why he made that story up. He has a very active imagination."

The actor continued: "No! He deserves to die. He should be pierced with a lance, not headbutted."

Murray's next film Fantastic Mr Fox, in which he voices the character Badger, is out in UK cinemas on October 23.

'Deadpool' spinoff 'to ignore Wolverine'

X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner has revealed that the  Deadpool movie will be a reboot.

20th Century Fox announced plans in May to feature the character played by Ryan Reynolds in X-Men Origins: Wolverine in a spinoff film, with the actor reprising his role.

Donner said that the version of the character seen in the latest instalment of the franchise will be ignored for the upcoming project.

She told Empire: "I want to ignore the version of Deadpool that we saw in Wolverine and just start over again. Reboot it. Because this guy talks, obviously, and to muzzle him would be insane."

The 60-year-old admitted that coming up with a Deadpool plot will be a challenge because there is "no clear-cut villain".

She added: "It's going to be a dark, snarky, very funny movie. It's the hardest story to tell, I think. There's no clear-cut villain - though you do have great baddies from the comic books like Black Tom, Slayback, Blind Al and the Weasel."

Donner earlier revealed that a film based on X-Men character Magneto may never be made.

Lucas: 'Avatar' can top 'Star Wars'

George Lucas has said that James Cameron's Avatar has the potential to top Star Wars.

Lucas, who created the popular space franchise in 1977, admitted that Cameron's first feature film in 12 years can push storytelling and technological boundaries.

"Creating a universe is daunting," Lucas told The New Yorker in its profile of Cameron. "I'm glad Jim is doing it - there are only a few people in the world who are nuts enough to. I did it with Star Wars, and now he's trying to challenge that. It's a lot of work. I do believe Jim will take this further out than anyone's ever conceived of."

Speaking about the inspiration behind Avatar, Cameron said: "I thought, 'Forget all these chick flicks and do a classic guys' adventure movie'. Something in the Edgar Rice Burroughs mould, like John Carter Of Mars - a soldier goes to Mars."

Avatar opens in IMAX 3D and conventional cinemas on December 18.

Judge refuses ban on Chris Rock film

Chris Rock's new documentary Good Hair will be given a full US release after a judge refused to grant an injunction blocking the film from cinemas.

The Everybody Hates Chris comedian was recently hit by a lawsuit from Regina Kimbell, who alleged that he stole ideas from her TV show My Nappy Roots in 2007.

Kimbell subsequently moved to have the movie banned, although it was later handed a limited release on October 9. However, after watching both productions, a judge has now given Rock the green light to distribute his picture nationwide, Contactmusic reports.

US District Judge Dale Fischer concluded that the two documentaries "don't seem to be made for the same audience", adding that portions of them "are not similar at all".

In response to the ruling, Kimbell vowed to press on with her lawsuit, in which she accuses Rock of copyright infringement and unfair competition. She is seeking $5m (£3.3m) in damages.

Her attorney Reginald K. Brown added: "We always knew that it would be tough getting the judge to grant a request for a preliminary injunction. We are looking forward to going to trial."

A trial date has yet to be set. Meanwhile, Good Hair will open across the US on October 23.

Matt Damon: 'Directing is my next step'

Matt Damon has revealed that he is determined to become a director.

The actor, who has starred in numerous box office hits during his 12-year career, said that he has been picking up tips from the likes of Martin Scorsese and Steven Soderbergh.

Contactmusic quotes him as saying: "I can't wait to direct. I choose my movies based on the director and so I've been treating the last 12 years like a film school. All the directors I've worked with have been very tolerant of my questions. The next step is for me to try it myself."

The Informant! star went on to say that he is putting off a directorial career for now so that he can learn more about filmmaking.

He added: "I'm not in a rush. The jobs that I'm getting not only are really exciting for me as an actor but I'm still working with people that I have a great deal to learn from."

Wes Anderson: 'I always loved Mr Fox'

Wes Anderson has revealed that he loved the title character of Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr Fox when he was a child.

The director's big screen adaptation of the story opened the BFI London Film Festival on October 13 ahead of its UK release on Friday.

Anderson told The Daily Telegraph: "I always loved Fantastic Mr Fox - it was the first book I actually owned with my name written in the title page on a little sticker.

"As a child I loved the character of Mr Fox. The combination of his being heroic and also vain. That character was very appealing to me and my brothers, who I was reading the book with."

His illustrator brother Eric added: "I never questioned the book's importance to Wes, because I understood its importance to me.

"Mr Fox had a wit and urbanity and sophistication that made him seem unique among the heroes of kids' books."

Anderson has admitted to a difference of opinion with the film's crew over his decision to direct the stop-motion picture from his Paris home rather than its London set.

Fox: 'Transformers films are extraordinary'

Megan Fox has claimed that she finds the Transformers films "extraordinary".

During promotion for sequel Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen earlier this year, the 23-year-old said that the Michael Bay-helmed movies gave her limited acting opportunities.

Bay and Fox subsequently became involved in a war of words, with Bay claiming that the actress is prone to saying "ridiculous things" and Fox comparing the filmmaker to Adolf Hitler.

Members of the Transformers film crew later described Fox as "dumb-as-a-rock" in an open letter.

The star has now told the crowd at Spike TV's Scream Awards that she is "completely grateful" to be affiliated with the movies, Us Weekly reports.

"I don't usually do this, but I wanted to say something," she said on accepting her sci-fi actress award.

"There have been a lot of false reports about how I feel about this movie. I just want to be very clear that I've always felt I'm a very ordinary part of an extraordinary film."

She added: "The movie took me out of obscurity and gave me a career, and I'm completely grateful to everyone involved with this franchise."

Duchovny 'keen on X-Files 3 for 2012'

David Duchovny has revealed that he would like to see a third X-Files movie in cinemas by 2012.

The 49-year-old played Fox Mulder in the TV series from 1993 until 2002. He also reprised his role in two X-Files feature-length films; 1998's Fight The Future and 2008 sequel I Want To Believe.

The Californication star told The Daily Beast that he would like to see the plotline for the possible third instalment centre on an "alien-oriented conspiracy".

He said: "As far as the X-Files movie I'd like to do next, if we get a chance to do it, would be a return to the heart and soul of the mythology, which is the alien-oriented conspiracy."

He added: "I think it's natural for The X-Files to have another movie in 2012, so we'll see if we get to do it."

Co-star Gillian Anderson previously hinted that a third film is in the works and that she is on board to play Dana Scully.

Marvel: 'Batman & Robin was important film'

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has called Batman & Robin  "the most important comic book movie ever made".

The 1997 film, which was directed by Joel Schumacher and starred George Clooney as the Caped Crusader, was widely panned by critics and fans. The franchise went on an eight-year hiatus before director Christopher Nolan rebooted the series with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

However, the studio head has insisted that the film should be applauded for being "so bad", the Los Angeles Times reports.

He said: "That may be the most important comic book movie ever made. It was so bad that it demanded a new way of doing things.

"It created the opportunity to do X-Men and Spider-Man adaptations that respected the source material and adaptations that were not campy."

The film's writer Akiva Goldsman admitted that it was flawed, saying: "What got lost in Batman & Robin is the emotions aren't real. The worst thing to do with a serious comic book is to make it a cartoon. I'm still answering for that movie with some people."

Goldsman was recently confirmed to reboot Marvel's Fantastic Four series for 20th Century Fox.

Field discusses 'SATC 2' plotlines

Stylist Patricia Field has discussed plot details about the forthcoming sequel to  Sex And The City.

The costume designer, who worked on the characters' outfits in the HBO TV series and the first film, dropped hints about an '80s flashback sequence in the highly-anticipated update.

She told People: "It was in the beginning of the movie. Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) was waiting to meet her girlfriends and she was thinking about when she first moved to New York in the '80s and how she met Samantha (Kim Cattrall) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis).

"They're all, in real time, meeting to go shopping. And in her flashback time, she is thinking of when she first met each one of them."

Earlier this year, the United Arab Emirates reportedly banned the project from filming scenes in Dubai, though Field stated that the locale has now been switched to Morocco.

She added: "[We're shooting] there for about six weeks. You'll probably see belly dancers and Bedouins!"

The 68-year-old recently said that the fashion would be "more fun" for the sequel, which opens in cinemas on May 28, 2010.
