Sheen 'wants to play John Lennon'

Michael Sheen has admitted that he would like to play John Lennon in a film about The Beatles.

The actor - who has portrayed a number of British icons on the big screen, including Tony Blair, David Frost and Brian Clough - said that although it is his desire to depict the late music icon, he is convinced that he would instead be cast as Lennon's bandmate Sir Paul McCartney.

He explained to Now: "I'd want to play Lennon, but I probably would be cast as McCartney!"

Sheen also revealed that he was too starstruck to strike up a proper conversation with McCartney when they met on a plane recently.

He added: "I met Paul McCartney on a flight not long ago. I was sitting there going, 'I can't go over there'. And then he came over to me. He said, 'You're famous, aren't you? I've seen you on the TV'. And I thought, 'Yeah, I've seen you on the TV a few times as well!'"

Will Ferrell has signed up to star in Dan Rush's independent comedy Everything Must Go, reports Variety.

Ackles 'denies Captain America rumour'

Jensen Ackles has dismissed reports that he will be cast in the title role for forthcoming movie Captain America.

The Supernatural star was asked about the rumours at exhibition Supernatural-Con in Vancouver, Canada.

He said: "It's been brought to my attention that it's online. I have not gotten a call from my agent, I have not gotten a script, I have not talked to anyone about it. I think it's all a rumour."

He added: "I'm sure [they'll cast] some big name film actor. They're not going to pull some dude off The CW and give him Captain America. I'm squashing it now, I know nothing about it."

Fillion 'wants Greatest American Hero role'

Nathan Fillion has admitted that he would like to star in a film remake of The Greatest American Hero.

The actor was previously rumoured to be up for the superhero role of Green Lantern, which ended up going to Ryan Reynolds.

The star of ABC series Castle revealed that he wants to headline an update of one of the network's previous shows.

He told IFC: "There are so many superheroes out there, I feel like there's none left. But there is one I think I could handle, and that's a redo of The Greatest American Hero."

He added: "I'd say it's largely the same idea, the same story. But the suit would be able to change and morph into whatever it is you needed him to do. So it could become armour, a scuba suit - you could do that stuff."

The Greatest American Hero, which ran from 1981 to 1983, starred William Katt as a high school teacher that receives a red suit from aliens that gave him super powers. However, his heroic attempts were hindered because he was not given the instruction manual for how to utilise the costume.

The programme's creator Stephen J. Cannell reportedly announced last year that a feature film was in development with director Stephen Herek.

'Green Lantern' no longer filming in Oz

Warner Bros Pictures has pulled out of plans to film Green Lantern in Australia, it has been reported.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio intended to shoot the superhero project at Sydney's Fox Studios but has reconsidered due to the strengthening Australian dollar.

"The current global economic situation, including fluctuations in currency valuation and overall costs. We have also had to reassess film projects in other countries as well. After working closely with our partners at the NSW Film and Television Office (Screen NSW) and examining every scenario, we have decided to move the production of Green Lantern," read a statement from Warners.

It is thought that the movie's production will switch to either Mexico or Canada, with filming due to commence next year.

Green Lantern stars Ryan Reynolds in the title role and will be directed by Martin Campbell. It is slated to arrive in theatres on June 17, 2011.

George Clooney praises goat co-star

George Clooney has called his animal co-star in The Men Who Stare At Goats "a great actor".

Clooney, who portrays a psychic spy with the ability to kill goats using telepathic powers in Grant Heslov's comedy, said at the movie's London Film Festival press conference that the goat he acted with was a more reliable castmate than Ewan McGregor.

"I was a fox and now I'm working with goats," said Clooney, referring to Fantastic Mr Fox, in which he voices the lead character. "This goat was a particularly nice goat, we spent a lot of time together. He wanted to go over dying around me so we worked on that for a while.

"The funny thing is the goat was a great actor. He walked in and you went, 'Stare at the camera', and he did it. If you could get Ewan to do that it would help!"

Clooney reveals weight-gain secrets

George Clooney turned to Renée Zellweger for help in piling on the pounds for a film role.

The Daily Express reported the actor found he needed advice when it came to gaining weight for the character of a CIA agent in Syriana.

Clooney said: "When I found out I had to pile on the pounds - no way was I going to wear a fat suit, that would have looked so fake - I rang up Renée, an old friend, and asked how she managed to put weight on for the Bridget Jones movies.

"She told me that a few pints of Guinness every night and a couple of plates of pasta with lashings of cream did the business for her. It did the trick for me too."

Thurman: 'I struggled to find myself'

Uma Thurman has said that she struggled to "find herself" after having her children.

The Motherhood star, who plays an internet blogger and mother-of-two in her new film, has said that she related to the role because she understood the difficulty of finding yourself after becoming a parent.

Thurman told OK! magazine: "Well, her circumstances are different, but her concerns are the same as mine. Trying to be true to yourself as an individual and as a woman and be a loving mother and grow and find yourself - that's the kind of thing we all deal with. I thought that was really universal."

The 39-year-old actress, who has two children from a previous marriage with actor Ethan Hawke, has insisted that motherhood has allowed her to grow as a person.

She added: "The most rewarding thing about motherhood is the incredible opportunity to love and expand your heart, and to learn, and to discover yourself in many different ways."

Motherhood is on limited release in US cinemas on October 23. As of yet, no UK release date has been announced.

Clooney: 'Filming 'Fox' was like camp'

George Clooney has reportedly said that filming the movie Fantastic Mr Fox was like "going to camp".

The 48-year-old actor, who voices the lead character in Wes Anderson's film adaptation, has said that the director made him act out very physical scenes despite the film being an animated feature.

Clooney told BANG Showbiz: "It was like going to camp. We were out in the middle of nowhere on people's farms, doing sound effects and rolling around in the fields."

Co-star Jason Schwartzman, who voices Mr Fox's son Ash, said: "George and Bill Murray and I all went into the countryside together and we just acted out these scenes and it was like shooting a movie but with no cameras.

"We all had microphones on us and when you see me digging in the dirt, I'm really digging in the dirt, when you see me eating food I'm eating food. It's all real."

Fantastic Mr Fox is to be released in UK cinemas on October 23 and in the US on November 25.

Ain’t It Cool reports that a "pretty reliable" source passed on the information, along with news that Jackie Earle Haley is to play the part of villain Sinestro in the Warner Bros-produced film.

Green Lantern, directed by Martin Campbell and starring Ryan Reynolds in the title role, is slated to arrive in cinemas on June 17, 2011.

'Magneto' movie 'may never be made'

X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner has revealed that a film based on Magneto may never be made.

When quizzed about the future of the X-Men franchise Donner also admitted that, should the movie ever go ahead, Sir Ian McKellen would not play the role of the villain throughout the origin story.

She told Empire: "David Goyer has written a brilliant script. It starts in the concentration camps and has Magneto coming out of there. But you know, I'm not sure that film is going to be made.

"The studio has a wealth of potential stories, and they have to stand back and decide which ones to make. And Magneto, I think, is at the back of the queue. Maybe it'll get made in five years - who knows?"

Discussing Deadpool, starring Ryan Reynolds, Donner said that she hoped to announce a writer for the project by November.

She teased the X-Men: First Class film, being written by Josh Schwartz, is to be similar in tone to the recent, "darker" Harry Potter movies but revealed the project furthest along was Wolverine 2.

"This movie will really focus on the relationship between Wolverine and Mariko, the daughter of a Japanese crime lord, and what happens to him in Japan," she said of the Chris McQuarrie-penned film.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is out on DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow.

Clooney: 'I've been fired a few times'

George Clooney has claimed that he used to be fired a lot.

The actor explained that he can relate to his character in Up In The Air, a corporate downsizing expert who has to travel across the United States sacking people.

"There are a lot of things about this guy I understand," Clooney told Access Hollywood. "Part of it is - and a good portion of it is - that you can spend a large part of your time literally up in the air, you can spend it working and missing part of your life.

"I spent a long time unemployed and when you are broke and unemployed, when you finally start working you don't want to stop.

"Sometimes when you do that you'll end up missing your family, your friends, people that you care about.

"I've been fired from a good many jobs. I have some understanding of it... I did not have a family to support so I did not have the same sort of pressure that other people have."

However, he added: "It's been a while since I've been fired."

Whitaker put on belly for 'Wild Things'

Forest Whitaker has revealed that he put on a "belly" while working on Where The Wild Things Are.

The actor, who provides the voice of Ira in the film, explained that he wanted to get into character.

"I put on a belly," he told Parade. "It was like a really soft fat suit. Ira's stomach is so big that I wanted to feel what it was like to put my hands on it. It changed the way people dealt with me on the set and it almost helped me change my voice to become Ira."

Whitaker added that he knew how to make the "grunts" in the film because he read the book to his children.

"It's sort of been handed down in my family because it was read to me when I was a kid," he explained. "I read it to all my kids, and now they read it on their own. They loved the scary parts."

He continued: "The book operates on primal fears. The one thing about the movie that I was surprised about is it's really frightening.

"It's really intense. But I think kids can handle it. They get to face some of the stuff that they're dealing with, even if it's in their imagination."
