Amy Adams cast as 'Superman's Lois Lane

Academy Award-nominated actress Amy Adams has been cast to play Lois Lane in Warner's upcoming reboot of the Superman franchise.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Adams was given the news earlier today by the film's director Zack Snyder.

"There was a big, giant search for Lois," Snyder explained. "For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role."

Over the past few months, several actresses had been rumoured to be in contention for the part, including Anne Hathaway, Kristen Stewart, Dianna Agron and Rachel McAdams.

"We did a lot of auditioning, but we had this meeting with Amy Adams, and after that I just felt she was perfect for it," Snyder added.

It is currently unknown as to how much screen time Lane will have in the reboot, due to rumours suggesting that Lane won't be the film's female lead. However, Snyder himself described Lane's role as the "linchpin" that holds the story together.

Adams is probably best known for playing the lead role in Disney's live-action fantasy film Enchanted, but also received Academy Award nods for both the indie film Junebug and last year's The Fighter.

The actress will join previously-announced cast members Henry Cavill as Superman, Kevin Costner as Pa Kent and Diane Lane as Ma Kent when the film begins shooting later this year.

Superman: The Man of Steel is expected to be released in December 2012.

Vin Diesel confirms sixth, seventh 'Fast and Furious' sequels

Vin Diesel has confirmed two further sequels for the Fast and Furious franchise.

The sixth movie will be split into two separate films, bringing the running total to seven.

"With the success of this last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six, we didn't have enough space," the Fast and Furious star and producer told The Hollywood Reporter.

"We have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages. The studio said, 'You can't fit all that story in one damn movie!'"

Fast & Furious 5 saw the franchise move from the racing to action-adventure heist genre.

The closing scene of the film teased the return of Eva Mendes and Michelle Rodriguez to the franchise.

Universal Pictures had been said to be considering filming the sixth and seventh sequels back-to-back.

Director Tony Scott Commits Suicide

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - British-born filmmaker Tony Scott, director of such Hollywood blockbusters as "Top Gun" and "Crimson Tide," jumped to his death on Sunday from a bridge over Los Angeles Harbour, the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office said.

Onlookers saw Scott, who was 68, parking his car on the Vincent Thomas Bridge and leaping into the water below at about 12:30 p.m. local time (1930 GMT), according to Lieutenant Joe Bale, a watch commander for the coroner's office.

Bale said the body was recovered by law enforcement from the harbour shortly before 3 p.m. and was subsequently identified as being that of the filmmaker and younger brother of fellow movie director Ridley Scott.

A note was found in Scott's car that Bale said he believed would turn out to be a suicide note, though he was not familiar with its contents. "Typically, when they find a note in cases like this, it's not a shopping list," he said.

The bridge, the surface of which clears the harbour's navigation channel by a height of about 185 feet (56 meters), connects the port district of San Pedro at the southern tip of Los Angeles to Terminal Island in the harbour.

A spokeswoman for the filmmaker, Katherine Rowe, said in a brief statement, "I can confirm that Tony Scott has indeed passed away," adding only, "The family asks that their privacy be respected at this time."
