About the Show:
Emmy nominee Anne Heche ("Hung") stars as Beth Harper in NBC's new comedy about a not-so-ordinary Midwestern family. After choking on a hero sandwich in her kitchen and suffering a dramatic near-death experience, Beth - an absentee wife and mother - is revived and claims she can now talk to God. Her teenage daughter, Emily (Madison Davenport, "Shameless"), is horrified and her husband, Tom (Michael Landes, "Final Destination 2"), is skeptical. To make matters worse, Tom's ex-mistress, Carly McKenna (Alexandra Breckenridge, "American Horror Story"), is in a coma after a close encounter with lightning in the Harper's front yard.

As Beth warms up to her new life, she strives to make amends to the people she has alienated over the years, including friends and neighbors Jenna Dennings (Heather Burns, "Bored to Death") and Maggie Tompkins (Joy Osmanski, "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"). Season 1



Episode 1: The Book of Beth (Pilot) (May/23/2013)
Beth Harper, an absentee wife and mother who suffers a dramatic near-death experience and is revived only to discover that she now receives messages from God. As she warms up to her powers and begins dispensing advice that is astonishingly accurate, her husband Tom is skeptical and their teenage daughter Emily is horrified. Complicating matters even more, Tom's mistress Carly shows up to confront Beth about the affair and quickly gets a shocking surprise.

Episode 2: Take It Back (May/23/2013)
Beth begins a new life on the straight and narrow and wants to make amends with old friends she has offended. Her efforts to return a long-ago stolen espresso machine to next door neighbor Maggie are rebuffed. Meanwhile, Tom learns to adjust to his wife's newfound ability to communicate with God and they both try to re-establish some sense of normality with their old friends and their daughter Emily.

Episode 3: WWJD (May/30/2013)
When Beth receives a message to be a Good Samaritan, she decides to help an elderly but extremely irascible neighbor. She finds that her friends and family are resistant because they were hoping to oust the woman from the neighborhood once and for all. Beth continues in her quest, however, and makes a new friend in the process.

Episode 4: Heal Thee (May/30/2013)
Beth and Tom visit a comatose Carly in the hospital. When they hit a squirrel on the way home, Beth becomes obsessed with saving it, going to great lengths to help the animal despite the objections of her husband and friends. Later - it becomes clear to all that the squirrel is a symbol of something much more important in Beth's life.

Episode 5: Whatever The Weather (Jun/06/2013)
When Beth receives a message to "Honor thy Father and thy Mother," she decides she must earn her daughter Emily's respect and make some positive changes in her life. Her journey brings her back to her old job at the TV station, where the drunken antics of her past have not remotely been forgotten!

Episode 6: Heavenly Hostess (Jun/06/2013)
When Tom reveals that he's up for a big promotion, Beth decides to host a dinner party for his boss Stephanie (Debra Wilson) and her officious assistant Randall (Michael McDonald) but she becomes distracted by a garage sale she thought she had cancelled. To make matters worse, she receives a divine message to get rid of many of their worldly possessions at the sale, so by the time everyone arrives, there is not much left of the family dining room. Luckily for Beth, Tom's boss is a woman who also knows a thing or two about speaking with the Lord.

Episode 7: Holier Than Thou (Jun/13/2013)
When Beth learns that the hospital where Emily was born is being shut down, she decides she must try to raise funds to save it. Unfortunately for her, her friends are busy, distracted or not at all interested. Beth's overzealousness soon becomes a big problem, but when she receives a divine visit from the Almighty herself, she realizes that she really can make a difference without making everyone do things her way.
