The 'Silliest' Excuses Used By Benefit Cheats

  • "I had no idea my wife was working! I never noticed her leaving the house twice a day in a fluorescent jacket and a Stop Children sign."
  •   "My wallet was stolen so someone must have been using my identity, I haven't been working".
  •   "I didn't know I was still on benefit."
  •   "I didn't declare my savings because I didn't save them, they were given to me."

I hate benefits cheats. Why should I work my bum off and miss out having time with my family, while those lazy people get to lie in bed till mid afternoon, smoke, drink and then winge that they are not getting enough off the government. GET A JOB....... Rant over.

Well i couldn't agree more but some people realise they get more money on benefit than working for minimum wage. your telling me if government paid more than you earn you wouldn't be tempted to be on benefits?

But by those lazy SOB's the rest are paying for, not the government, and it is hurting the economy, at least in the US

Actually that's not true. There is a perception that they get more on benefits but actually you get more on the minimum wage. I watched a channel 4 documentary on this and when they worked out what benefits they got versus working full time on minimum wage, they came out with a lot more working full time. Plus a sense of worth that you can't put a value on.

I'm with you Craig, lazy sods. But sure you think the UK is bad, it's worse here! We seem to indirectly encourage people not to work here and our minimum wage is better than the UK. It's €8.65 an hour here in Ireland.

I have to tell you this is something that drives me mad. When I see able bodied people not working when they can

Yeah thanks for that. I agree with everyone on here about see able bodied people not working but again as some who has actively looking for a job the main reason i don't get selected is that i haven't been working 6 months when i tell interview that they politely smile and say we will get back to you. As someone who's not on benefit and actively looking for a job what am i suppose to do?. .

Well you have to be clever with what you state on your CV. You're right that people don't like to see gaps in CV's, but is there something you could fill that gap with? e.g. (you did freelance blogging for TV shows) or something like this. You have to be creative. Everyone embellishes a little on their CV, it's almost expected!

You also need to tailor your CV to a specific job you are going for. It doesn't work just to send a bog standard CV out each time. Look at the job you are going for, find out a lot about the company and expectations and in your covering letter (which you should keep brief) state what attributes you have that will make you the ideal candidate for this job.

As someone who has read a lot of CV's I always appreciate the person who put in a bit more effort and made my job easier by not having to read through pages of CV details to find what might be relevant to the role. Plus, in an interview, always bring out things that make you the ideal person that are relevant to the job, company. It shows you are interested in their company and not just getting a job.

Yes that's the general advice i get but one important rule Don't lie on your CV at what point does embellishment become a lie, i am honest person i believe if your honest with your interviewer they appreciate your honestly and consider you for the job as it demonstrate integrity and honesty these important qualities that i think are important any job . That's just my opinion..

I never said to lie. Don't you write blogs on TV shows? Where's the lie in that? Be truthful, but everyone embellishes and bigs themself up. Or you could keep doing what your doing and not get any interviews

At the end of the day you'll still need to be able to live up to what you say you can do because, during your probation period they'll find out.

Fyi, embellish just means to make something more interesting by adding detail.

What shinny has said is so true.  Having actively looked for work for the last 5 years (am working right now, just not what i want to be doing) sometimes putting down non-paying jobs and hobbies is the best.  Also, though it is hard, taking a job that doesn't pay well or you won't be happy in, is much better than not working, and it keeps the gaps filled.  I am fairly lucky, I have run my own business on the side for so long that I never have gaps.  But did have one employer tell me, "Self-employment is just another word for unemployment."  Might have to Incorporate

City fan gets the needle after losing bet

Manchester City may have broken their 35-year trophy drought this season and reached the Champions League but the season had a bitter end for supporter Rodney Ward.

The 24-year-old has had a tattoo of Manchester United's badge etched on his chest after losing a bet.

Ward and United fan Paul Madden decided to bet each other over which club would finish highest in the Premier League last August - with the loser getting the other club's crest tattooed on his chest.

The heating engineer told the Daily Mail: "I'm embarrassed as anything but it could have been worse if United had won the Champions League too.

"As it is I'll just have to grin and bear the fact I've got a United logo on my chest."

Ward is the latest City fan to have a questionable tattoo on his body.

I missed this comment first time around but i realise one thing there are number of factors that affect whether you get selected and no one can teach you how to get a job it's up to you figure it out. The hardest thing you might have consider is to lower your salary expectation to level where they might consider hiring you. It hard to imagine going back to minimum wage when you been use getting paid above minimum wage in the past.

It is hard in this day and age with the economy like it is. It has become a real competetive market out there with employers able to pick and choose more, thus employees are willing to take less for doing more.
One thing thats griping me at the moment is the price of petrol. It seems like a right postcode lottery. At my local Tesco's it's £1.34 a litre of unleaded. This is the best price its been in months, down from about a £1.38 average. Still around where my parents live 300 miles away unleaded from their Tesco garage is £1.29 a litre. Same petrol, same company but different area. The reason is we dont have a Asda around here to compete with. Where as there is an Tesco, Asda and Sainsburtys within 2 miles where my parents live promoting competetiveness.

What do you think about the teacher striking because of pension cuts, you kind feel bad for older ones the ones teaching for over 25 years but younger teacher at least can save up.

In today's world, with the pay scale like it is, an average person, unless they live really frugally, has a very hard time to save enough to live off after retirement.  At least in the US it is.  That is why we have more and more retirerees in the US, who end up getting menial jobs at retail(WalMart) and fast food (McDonalds)

    What a great wife

A Mexican woman has been arrested for trying to sneak her husband out of prison in a suitcase following a conjugal visit.

Maria del Mar Arjona, 19, was stopped as she left the prison in Chetumal, the capital of the Caribbean state Quintana Roo.

Staff became suspicious as the young woman seemed nervous and was struggling with a black, wheeled suitcase which looked particularly bulky.

Police spokesman Gerardo Campos said prison guards checked the bag and found inmate Juan Ramirez Tijerina curled up inside.

Convicted in 2007, Ramirez is serving a 20-year sentence for illegal weapons possession.

He is thought to be a member of the Sinaloa drugs cartel.

Arjona has been arrested and charges are pending.
