The Doctor Blake Mysteries Premiered on ABC1 on February 01, 2013

The Doctor Blake Mysteries is an original 10-part murder mystery series starring one of Australia’s favourite and most versatile actors, Craig McLachlan, as the maverick country town doctor Lucien Blake. A risk-taker, he’s impulsive and not afraid to upset the status quo.

It’s 1959. Dr Blake has returned to a place he once called home, to take over his deceased father’s medical practice. Everything seems peaceful on the surface, but seething underneath are the age-old passions of a regional town clashing head-on with the tensions and fears of the decade to come.

Haunted by the horrors of war, his own personal loss and changed by his experiences as a POW, the wry, dry, yet very human Dr Blake undertakes his other role as police surgeon with precision and gusto - yet many find his unpredictable and unconventional manner unnerving. Ahead of his time, Blake looks to the science of forensics and his own understanding of the human heart to help solve the mysteries that inevitably come his way.

Beside Blake, helping and at times hindering, are his housekeeper Jean (Nadine Garner), her nephew Danny (Rick Donald), a young constable, District Nurse Mattie O’Brien (Cate Wolfe) and Chief Superintendent Matthew Lawson (Joel Tobeck).

Change is seeping through the cracks of post-World War II values, and endless fears abound – fear of communism, nuclear testing, rock ‘n’ roll music, immigration and social breakdown. Dr Blake’s community turns to him for guidance in medical matters and so much more. They tell him everything. Everyone trusts the doctor and he has a damn good nose for things left unsaid.

It's a good job Dr Blake didn't pass the young woman’s body that was found floating in Lake as a drowning but digging deeper into the mystery was interesting and swallowing the pills was reckless but was a quick way to find out what they were, Rosemary killing her because she was pregnant with her sons baby was tragic

Jean threatening to leave was a surprise but Blake responding by wishing her well with her job interview was amusing and who would of thought after that Jean would save Blake from being strangled by the killer

Daniel was very lucky Lucien knew about snake bits after the travelling salesman died in a car accident from the same snake bit but being killed for the salesman contact book was a surprise as it was starting to look like he was killed for being gay

The delirious prisoner on death row telling Dr. Blake he is innocent of the police shooting was interesting as 13 months ago he came out the house bragging he killed a copper but who would of thought it was his brothers that were responsible one for the killing and the other who was a priest wanted him to die because the killing brother had a family

The head judge of the Begonia Festival being found incinerated was interesting but thinking the murder's were over their prize winning begonias was predictable until Blake discovered there was something more sinister going on

Finding out the dead foreman had been extorting money and sexually abusing the ladies was terrible and he deserved to die but tragic to think his killer who was given a sexually transmitted decease would of gone to jail when his death was self-defence if it wasn't for the second murder

The fatal stabbing of the nurse at Blackhill Asylum was tragic and seeing the psychiatric inmate, David dropping the knife would make you think he was responsible but the knife being taken two days earlier would make it pre-meditated which I didn't think was possible for his condition
