Great Expectations Premieres on BBC One on December 27, 2011

Ray Winstone, Gillian Anderson, David Suchet and Douglas Booth star in Sarah Phelps’s bold new adaptation of Great Expectations, which forms the centrepiece of the BBC’s celebration of Charles Dickens as we approach the bicentenary of his birth, in 2012.

The convict, Magwitch was a mean old sod but what Pip did for him was nice considering the scary tale he told him but at least he took the blame for the file and the piece of pie and Miss Havisham looked more like a ghost and the lawyer from London informing the now adult Pip that he is a young man of great expectations and will inherit a fortune when he turns 21 should be interesting

Small world Pip sharing his lodgings with Herbert the spoilt brat he punched all those years ago but what he did for him with his future inheritance behind his back was nice and Pip kissing Estella in the lake did go down well but he is not the only one who has his eye on her and nice way to end this episode with the revelation of his benefactor

So it was that piece of pie that Pip gave to Magwitch when he was in shackles all those years ago that made him decide to be his benefactor but you can understand why Pip is horrified when he thought it was Miss Havisham and what she did just after Pip left was a surprise, Estella being Magwitch's daughter was another surprise and Estella thanking the horse was amusing but the ending was nice
