Do we compromise on speed for money Author: bala Time: 2-28-2009 08:06 Subject: Reply 1#1 codebreaker's post
it depends what country you are?
in UK maximum 50mb but in japan or korea they can get up to 150MB broadband.
they have best speed Author: codebreaker Time: 2-28-2009 08:11 Subject: Reply 2#2 bala's post
Would you pay more for fast broadband or settle for the cheapest with a limit or the cheapest with unlimited download Author: bala Time: 2-28-2009 08:20 Subject: Reply 3#3 codebreaker's post
That would depend on the limit -my one is free but limit 40GB monthly usage- based on consumption i use 30GB in a month so i always have 10GB spares extra stuff.
i would prefer cheapest with unlimited as long speed is reasonable 5-8 mb speed . Author: codebreaker Time: 2-28-2009 08:30 Subject: Reply 4#4 bala's post
My provider would charge £5 for 40GB but that would be no good for me
Mine isn't bad - especially considering I live in a really small town. It says 150 miles from Toronto, that might be as the crow flies (or wherever the towers are), because last time I checked it was nearer to 380 miles. It's not cheap up here, but the other option is dial-up, and I'd pay even more to avoid that again.

Looking at the others mine is rubbish so i did a search and the one i have says no limit were the rest say unlimited* (*fair use) Author: cshapiro Time: 2-28-2009 21:04
I have unlimited use and I an sometimes using two or three computers on the same connection through my home network and have never had a problem. My provider, Sympatico, offers a premium service that gives 19-20 Mb/s but I don't seem to need it. I find most sites aren't fast enough to take advantage of the higher speeds anyhow.

Yeh, mine service provider is the same. The next speed up from what I have is 7mb and then it's 24mb.
My service is unlimited also and includes, my telephone line rental, free local and national calls and free mobile calls to the meteor network. Author: bala Time: 3-1-2009 03:02 Subject: Reply 13#13 dognxtdoor's post
That very good speed must cost you Author: joe200101 Time: 3-1-2009 04:42
This is at Uni, you get 2mb for free, i paid £70 for up to 10mb for the year, and £30 for an iptv, online storage and gaming package.
This is in Birmingham. At home in hereford i pay £26 a month for BTs top unlimited package, which rarely gets above 3mb, and is awful for gaming, particulary on consoles.

I am also in Birmingham and i use Sky top package so i did a search on my post code and the best i can expect on ADSL is 4MB but as you can see from previous post the best i do get is 1MB Author: waterlilybarb Time: 3-1-2009 12:31 Subject: Reply 19#19 bala's post
It sounds like Joe likes the extra MB for gaming. Author: joe200101 Time: 3-2-2009 03:50 Subject: Reply 19#19 bala's post
I think you misunderstood. It's £100 one off payment for 12 months. For just the broadband it I'd £70, then for basic 2 mb it is free.
Also, codebreaker, I live just off broad street, which is why I think it is so fast Author: codebreaker Time: 3-2-2009 04:09 Subject: Reply 22#22 joe200101's post
The only way for me to get faster broadband is a cable company Author: codebreaker Time: 7-12-2009 01:23 Subject: Broadband
I started this back in February and i am still with Sky but they sent me a letter saying that they are increasing the speed up to 20 MB which annoyed me because i was only getting 1 MB. So i tried the router in every phone socket to see if i could improve the speed with no luck so i rang Sky and he tested the line and found no fault but he said that the exchange had been upgraded recently and after a few more test he informed me it was caped at 1024 KB which is 1 MB and he would report it to another team and they should ring me back within 72 hours. Two hours after the phone call i noticed my downloads were quicker so i did another speed test and was surprised at the new speed

Here is a log of the last few tests

Does anyone think Sky owe me a refund of some sort form capping my speed when i have been paying for max for two years Author: bala Time: 7-12-2009 01:33 Subject: Reply 24#24 codebreaker's post

What is 150 GB a month between friends unlimited should be unlimited. I cant believe the difference the speed makes what would take 2 hours now only takes 20 min Author: bala Time: 7-12-2009 01:53 Subject: Reply 26#26 codebreaker's post
Well since your paying for it you should ask about that. Author: spratt89 Time: 7-12-2009 03:41

Broadband is now waning here in Japan... Fiber Optic internet is now rising fast and more faster in speed than broadband but more economical.... that's why people are shifting fast to fiber optic. Dial Up however is still an option if someone opt to use it..... Bala was right. Broadband here goes up to 50 mbps. But your actual speed will depend on your distance from the server location... I not sure of the cost but I know that it uses quite a bit of the 50mb when I download things on occasion. Author: codebreaker Time: 7-12-2009 06:24 Subject: Reply 32#32 spratt89's post

I had a reply from Sky apologizing for the poor download speed and are looking in to why it was so slow but because i received the unlimited usage part of the package are only offering a £10. 00 good will gesture but i feel insulted because i was only receiving about 25% of what the download speed should of been and with it being so slow if i was downloading 24 hours a day then what i could of downloaded was only 25%

you should be but we all know they knew about it and wanted to cheat the customer - it happens all time with broadband in UK. Watchdog investigated this last year and found majority of broadband customer are not getting speed they were promised. Author: bala Time: 6-7-2010 12:23

That's a good speed and I'm guessing they still used the phone line but that's were I get frustrated when they call it fibre optic and they are using the existing copper phone wire to the exchange Author: bala Time: 8-20-2015 09:28 Subject: Reply 49#49 codebreaker's post
Yes i was surprised as well because i thought BT guy would come to our house and fix it but was told that simple switch it over at the exchange .

Yes that only reason why we were forced to upgrade i don't really need that much speed as i been used to
I have survived with that speed since 2010.

Standard as I wount pay the increased price. Even if they do a offer you know will end at some time Author: bala Time: 8-20-2015 12:23 Subject: Reply 54#54 codebreaker's post
Yes your right but i just glad everything went smoothly for us .
i heard horror stories on internet about people upgrading to fiber not getting either speed or connection that was my main worry.
I agree standard is ok if it's just you and your wife and no kids. Author: bala Time: 8-20-2015 22:39
