The Dark Knight has finished top of a poll to find the year's best movie experience.
Christopher Nolan's film, starring Christian Bale and Heath Ledger, beat off competition from Mamma Mia! and No Country For Old Men to claim the Love Film accolade.
"There's no doubt that 2008 has been a hugely eventful year for film," said Love Film editor Helen Cowley. "Performances like Heath Ledger's have clearly set the bar higher, so it'll be interesting to see if 2009's crop of new releases can make the grade."
Eagle Eye was named the year's worst film, followed by Pineapple Express and Fool's Gold. Author: spratt89 Time: 12-31-2008 17:36 Subject: Mamma Mia!' is biggest DVD of all time

Superhero sequel The Dark Knight was the second most purchased disc of 2008, selling 1.5 million copies.

A third sequel to the successful American Pie franchise is reportedly in development.
American Pie 4 will likely focus on the characters of Jim and Michelle following on from their wedding, according to Moviehole.
The original American Pie was released in 1999 and grossed around $235 million (£162.4 million) worldwide. It was followed by American Pie 2 and American Wedding, which each grossed over $200 million (£138.1 million) at the box office.
A trio of straight-to-DVD spinoffs - American Pie Presents: Band Camp, American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile and American Pie Presents: Beta House - have also been released.
Producers Universal Pictures were reportedly impressed by the success of the spinoff movies and believe that a fourth cinematic feature could be a profitable venture.
The original films starred Jason Biggs, Sean William Scott and Alyson Hannigan, but no cast members have yet been announced for the latest project. Author: spratt89 Time: 1-1-2009 13:21 Subject: Laugier: 'New 'Hellraiser' will be epic'
Director Pascal Laugier has revealed that his remake of cult horror movie Hellraiser will be "more epic" than the original.
However, the French filmmaker has promised fans that he will stay true to Clive Barker's original screenplay, which was based on his critically acclaimed novella The Hellbound Heart.
"I won't betray Clive Barker's work. I want to do a fresh film filled with a lot of unexpected and surprising things," he told Ain't It Cool. "At the same time, I want it to be connected to the real, original material.
"We'll get the chance to have much more money than even Clive had in the first film, so it will be of course more epic, it will be bigger, and I hope that it won't be softer."
Laugier admitted that he jumped at the chance to remake the movie because of the effect watching it as a child had on him.
"Hellraiser is a child's dream coming true," he said. "I saw the first when I was 13, I remember precisely the shock it had on me because it was so new, so fresh, so it's very hard to resist the temptation to do [it].
"I felt it was a good idea to do a new Hellraiser... the franchise has been killed by really, really cheap and bad direct-to-DVD sequels... and the franchise deserves something more ambitious, you know, and more serious, so for me it's a huge chance to be allowed to handle it." "Wearing coloured contact lenses... It was like I constantly had sand in my eyes," he told OK!. "I was wearing them for three months constantly and my eyes never ever accepted them!"
The 22-year-old also confessed that he is not looking forward to filming sequel New Moon because he will have to wear the lenses again.

"It was frustrating as well because normally your eyes are saying something, but if you've got two orange blobs in your face it's so annoying!

Tom Cruise's new movie Valkyrie is reportedly being threatened with a lawsuit after a Nazi prop was used without permission.
The 46-year-old actor stars as Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, one of the key plotters in an attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler during the Second World War.
Several scenes in the movie involve a replica of the Nazi leader's famous Fuhrer Globe, which he used to plot his military strategies.
Hitler is thought to have commissioned two limited editions of the original globe from a Berlin factory in the 1930s. An American soldier claimed to have found one in May 1945 among the ruins of a former Nazi command base.
That globe was later sold at auction to art collector Robert Pritikin, who paid $100,000 (£68,483) for the item and copyrighted its likeness to prevent its use by neo-Nazi groups.
"Pritikin believes the globe should be used as a teaching tool so the lessons of Hitler's nightmare can keep history from repeating itself," said Paul Barresi, who is investigating the alleged copyright infringement.
"Tom Cruise's use of the globe's likeness without our client's permission was likely just an oversight. We're confident this will all be quickly resolved out of court." Author: spratt89 Time: 1-3-2009 01:19 Subject: Smith named biggest box office draw

David Frost has called the movie adaption of hit play Frost/Nixon "fiction".
The Ron Howard film, based on a series of interviews US president Richard Nixon gave to the talkshow host in 1977, has changed some details of what really happened.
"I voluntarily gave up my rights to editorial control of it. I'm not complaining but it does mean that 10 to 15% of the film is fiction," he said.
He added that actual events were slightly inaccurate in the original production, which he puts down to the writer attempting to create a more audience-friendly narrative.

Hollyoaks star Sarah Jayne Dunn has revealed that she would be willing to strip off for a film role.
The 27-year-old actress, who plays Mandy Richardson on the Channel 4 soap, confirmed that she would have to be satisfied that the nude scene was crucial to the plot before agreeing to bare all.
"I would go nude in a film as long as the part was right," Dunn told the Daily Star. "I wouldn't do it if they just threw in a nude shot just for the hell of it. It would have to be vital to the character and the story. But I'm not a prude about my body so it wouldn't bother me being filmed with no clothes on.
"It might be a bit weird for my dad watching the film later, though. I think I would probably ban him from seeing it!"
The star also rubbished suggestions that there is rivalry between Hollyoaks' female cast members as they strive to look good on the soap.

Brolin added that he tried to get into the mind of White, who assassinated San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and gay supervisor Harvey Milk in 1978.
"You go, 'What led him to the moment to make the decisions he made? What led him to that moment where he put the bullets in his vest and decided to go out and kill four people?' Danny Boyle has admitted that he cast Dev Patel in Slumdog Millionaire on the advice of his daughter.
The British director said that he struggled to find an actor to portray the film's lead character Jamal Malik, a young man who enters the Indian version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, because all the candidates were too muscular.
"I thought, 'That doesn't look right for the film, he's meant to be an underdog.' You're meant to think, 'What's this guy got? Nothing apparently,'" Boyle said.
Boyle, the director of Trainspotting and 28 Days Later, revealed that his daughter recommended he cast Patel, who at the time was starring in E4's Skins.
"My daughter said, 'You should watch him in Skins', because I couldn't find someone and I thought, he's the right guy."
However, the filmmaker insisted that Patel's mother kept away from the set.
"We had to get rid of his mum because he was only 17 when we met him and his mum was kind of looking after him and making sure he didn't come to any harm," he explained. "I thought, we can't have a romantic lead with his mum in attendance, so we had to get rid of his mum - not literally obviously, she's lovely."

Director Frank Miller has revealed that he struggled to cast the lead role in The Spirit because of the lack of macho leading men in Hollywood.
The Sin City co-director eventually chose Gabriel Macht to play the eponymous hero, noting that he did not want a recognisable star leading the movie.
"It was a very long process but I demanded at the beginning that the Spirit be someone you'd never seen before," Miller said. "I didn't want you to think of this as another role for Val Kilmer.
"We interviewed dozens and dozens of people. It was very difficult because we were interviewing them in Hollywood. There's a bit of a problem in that Hollywood breeds many a good male actor but it breeds very, very few men.
"We had to find someone who could play not only a man but a hero. And not only a hero, but one who could stumble from time to time and one who could look a bit foolish - especially when beautiful women are around, which they are in abundance. Gabriel walked away with the part."

A film based on the adventures of comic book hero Captain Marvel has been shelved, according to the project's writer.
John August revealed that he returned from holiday to find that plans to make Shazam had been axed by Warner Bros.
"By 'dead,' I mean that it won’t be happening. I don’t think it’s on the studio’s radar at all," he wrote on his blog. "It may come back in another incarnation, with another writer, but I can say with considerable certainty that it won’t be the version I developed."
The Charlie And The Chocolate Factory scribe admitted that bosses were unhappy with his original action/comedy script and wanted a darker approach following the success of last year's The Dark Knight.
Shazam! centred on teenager Billy Batson, who is selected by the wizard Shazam to have powers that can help save the earth.

The Dark Knight and Slumdog Millionaire have been recognised by the Producers Guild of America.
The movies, along with Frost/Nixon, Milk and The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, have been nominated for best-produced feature film at the 2009 PGA Awards.
In the documentary category, Man On Wire faces competition from Standard Operating Procedure and Trouble The Water, while Kung Fu Panda, Bolt and WALL-E are nominated for best-produced animated movie.
The PGA Awards, which take place in Los Angeles on January 24, are often seen as an indicator for the Oscars. Last year's best picture winner No Country For Old Men walked away with the 2008 Guild award.
In addition to film, the PGA also honours US TV - Boston Legal, Damages, Dexter, Lost and Mad Men were recognised for drama, with 30 Rock, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage, The Office and Weeds securing nominations in the comedy category. Author: spratt89 Time: 1-6-2009 14:01 Subject: Torrance's 'Shining' book published
The novel written by Jack Torrance in Stanley Kubrick's The Shining has been published as a spoof book.
The 1980 horror film, based on the book by Stephen King, starred Jack Nicholson as a frustrated writer who retreats to a secluded hotel to complete his work. As he slowly descends into madness, his wife Wendy discovers that his manuscript consists only of the words "All Work And No Play Makes Jack A Dull Boy".
New York artist Phil Buehler has now published a book credited to Torrance, which repeats the words for 80 pages with adjusted formatting on each.
A review of the work, titled All Work And No Play Makes Jack A Dull Boy, said: "One is forced to consider the author, heroically pitting himself against the Sisyphusean sentence. It's that metatextual struggle of Man vs. Typewriter that gives this book its spellbinding power.
"Some will dismiss it as simplistic; that's like dismissing a Pollack canvas as mere splatters of paint." Author: spratt89 Time: 1-6-2009 15:23 Subject: Fields: 'SATC sequel will happen'
Sex And The City stylist Patricia Fields has revealed that a sequel to last year's Sex And The City: The Movie will happen.
However, she warned fans that they would have to be patient because the project is at a "really early" stage.
"I do believe it will happen because [creator] Michael Patrick King himself told me it's gonna happen," she told MTV. "But I haven't received any official information yet.
"King has to write a new script. It's a long process. I don't think it will happen in 2009. But you never know. Maybe the end [of the year]. That's unofficial. I have really no idea. I don't think there's a set date anyway. It's in the really early process."
Kim Cattrall fuelled rumours of a sequel in November when she told The Paul O'Grady Show that it is happening. However, co-stars Cynthia Nixon and Sarah Jessica Parker have both warned that a follow-up is not a done deal. Author: spratt89 Time: 1-7-2009 01:16 Subject: Pegg urges 'Lose Friends' DVD boycott
Simon Pegg has urged fans not to buy the US DVD release of his film How To Lose Friends And Alienate People.
Pegg and the comedy's director Robert Weide have both blasted US distributor MGM/Fox for omitting deleted scenes from the disc's extra features.
"I was very disappointed when I heard about the lack of extra features on the US DVD, particularly when Bob and I went to great lengths to ensure they were available," Pegg said.
He continued: "On projects where my responsibility was solely as an actor, I have strived to suggest content and have always been slightly ashamed of the discs that offer little. With Bob Weide, a man at pains to collaborate and achieve the very best he possibly can, I was adamant that we work together to produce a DVD that offered a completist's overview of the finished piece."
In a separate statement, Weide said that he had compromised the final cut of the film on the understanding that deleted scenes would be available on all DVD releases.
"It boils down to sloppiness and apathy," he remarked. "All of the material was absolutely cleared for all territories. There were just too many cooks in the kitchen and the left hand failed to communicate with the right hand. The ball was gently placed in those hands, and they dropped it."
The Region 2 (UK) release of How To Lose Friends... will include the deleted scenes. Author: spratt89 Time: 1-7-2009 01:17 Subject: Scorsese endorses Italian crime film
Martin Scorsese has offered his backing to an Italian crime film ahead of its release in the US next month.
Gomorrah, which focuses on organised crime in Naples, will now open with the credit "Martin Scorsese presents" when it makes its American debut on February 13.
In a statement, the Oscar-winning director described Matteo Garrone's movie as "a tough, forceful look at the Neapolitan underworld".
He added: "I admire the bluntness of this picture and the devotion of Garrone and his actors in their pursuit of a terrible truth."
Meanwhile, Garrone revealed that he is touched by the news as Scorsese has been a key figure in his "development as a filmmaker".
"I am therefore extremely proud that the film has found such a prestigious adoptive father, and I will certainly cherish this memory for all time," he continued.

Chris Pine has warned Star Trek fans that J.J. Abrams's forthcoming prequel will not please everyone.
The 28-year-old actor plays Captain Kirk in the big-budget sci-fi production, which marks the eleventh Star Trek movie to be released.
"I’m not well-versed in the Trek canon but we’re venturing into territory that’s only been covered in these paperback novels they sell," he told the Wall Street Journal. "It’s definitely not going to please everyone."
However, Pine revealed that he hopes Abrams's reimagining of the franchise will provide optimism for cinema-goers, despite the film's edgier take on the original characters.
"Unlike other genre movies, Star Trek has always represented an incredible amount of optimism. In the late ‘60s, in a time of unrest, it represented this Utopian world," he said. "As opposed to The Dark Knight, which I enjoyed, but was so bleak and didn’t speak kindly of humanity.
“Kirk is so iconic because he’s the head of this fantastical Utopian team. They aren’t superheroes, they’re men and women trying to achieve something good." Author: spratt89 Time: 1-7-2009 01:53 Subject: Pattinson pulls out of 'Parts Per Billion'
Twilight star Robert Pattinson has dropped out of the upcoming movie Parts Per Billion.
The 22-year-old was forced to pull out of the project because of a scheduling conflict with New Moon, the highly-anticipated second instalment in the vampire franchise.
"Unfortunately, the prep time and production schedule on New Moon haven't left enough time for Robert to work on Parts Per Billion in the first quarter of this year," his agent Nicholas Frenkel told MTV.
Parts Per Billion, which follows three couples coping with the same life-threatening event, is due to begin filming in Los Angeles later this month.
Rosario Dawson, who is starring in and producing the film, recently expressed her excitement at working with Pattinson. Author: spratt89 Time: 1-7-2009 01:54 Subject: 'Yes Man' retains UK box office No.1

She told Reveal: "I want to win, I'm not denying that. I don't want to be sitting there with a fixed grin on my face while someone else wins. But we all do that, don't we?"
Winslet has been tipped to pick up an Oscar for her roles in The Reader and Revolutionary Road. She has secured two Golden Globe nominations for those films.

The movie, based on the novel by Jules Verne, will follow the adventures of sea commander Captain Nemo as he builds his warship, the Nautilus.
The 1954 original marked the first live-action feature film made by Walt Disney. It became the second-highest grossing film of 1954 and won three Academy Awards.

Lex Luthor has reportedly been axed as the main villain in the potential sequel to Superman Returns.
Warner Bros has requested that writers pitch ideas for an alternative central baddie for the tentatively titled Man Of Steel, according to The Latino Review.
Luthor, most recently played by Kevin Spacey, is traditionally portrayed as the arch-nemesis to Superman but bosses are reportedly eager to take the sequel in a new direction.
However, insiders have revealed that the studio has not yet found a new villain that they are happy with.

The story concerns a photon called Dave (Pine) who lives in the sun and becomes involved in a battle between the Core (Shatner) and the Void (Hamill). It will combine animation with footage taken from NASA space missions.

"My ambition to direct has been fuelled over the last 15 years by working alongside great directors. It has also been my film education," she told Empire.
The 35-year-old will also star in the movie, scripted by Tom Bacon. She will play Sally, the daughter of a woman who kills her abusive husband and then founds an underground vigilante network dedicated to murdering the scum of society.
Headey described the film as "smart, articulate, compelling, sexy, fun, dark, deeply poignant and not afraid to laugh at itself. Above all it is a gripping and compelling journey, a study of humanity’s darkest flaws and purest innocence".

Twilight star Taylor Lautner will find out this week if he will keep his role in the hit movie's forthcoming sequel.
The 16-year-old played Jacob Black in the first instalment of the vampire franchise, but executives at Summit Entertainment are reportedly split over whether he can carry off the physical requirements of the character in New Moon.
Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg told Entertainment Weekly that while Jacob appeared as a supporting character in Twilight, his role in New Moon is vastly expanded.
"Jacob is a totally different character in New Moon. He's a foot taller and huge - and he's supposed to look 25. It's really a question of whether or not the same actor can play the role," she said, adding that "everyone would love to keep him. We all think he's the loveliest person ever".
Last month, Lautner denied that he had been dropped from the movie, telling MTV that he has been hitting the gym in a bid to achieve the necessary physique. Author: spratt89 Time: 1-8-2009 01:54 Subject: Craig laughs off Gallagher role
Daniel Craig has joked that Noel Gallagher is "full of s**t" after he asked the Bond star to play him in a movie of his life.
The Oasis guitarist is said to have chosen Craig as the most suitable person to depict his story.
"Noel Gallagher wants me to play him in a movie about his life. He's full of s**t - that is ridiculous, he must have been in a very good mood to say that," said Craig at a screening of new movie Defiance.
"I'm way older than him anyway so I couldn't play him, but I love the idea - it's fantastic. I can play the guitar better than him."
The actor added: "I haven't had a call from Liam yet so I'll wait for that one."

Michael Bay has revealed that villain Megatron will not be a part of Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen.
The director denied that the character makes an appearance in the movie sequel, due out this summer, insisting that a recent toy of the Decepticon is not related to the film.
"He's not in this movie. That's not misinformation. The tank design you may have seen is just Hasbro coming up with a new toy," he told Empire.
Instead, new villain The Fallen will oppose the Autobots in the summer blockbuster, while new Decepticon Devastator will appear in the Pyramid sequence.
"Imagine six or seven or eight massive earth-moving vehicles, with tires as big as [a] tree. It's going to be gigantic," Bay said of the latter. Author: spratt89 Time: 1-8-2009 01:55 Subject: Westwood wants to pen 'SATC' sequel

The British fashion designer wrote to the show's producers and volunteered to pen a script for the forthcoming film, according to The Telegraph.
"We haven't had any news about it yet," said a representative for Westwood. "So we don't know what's happening."
Westwood, who designed the wedding dress which Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) wore in the movie, publicly criticised stylist Patricia Fields on its release last year.
"I thought Sex And The City was supposed to be about cutting-edge fashion," she said. "There was nothing remotely memorable or interesting about what I saw. I went to the premiere and left after ten minutes." Author: spratt89 Time: 1-8-2009 01:55 Subject: Rourke recalls brutal 'Wrestler' training
Mickey Rourke has revealed the tough training routine he underwent while preparing for his role in The Wrestler.
The 52-year-old said that he endured a regime of bodybuilding and a strict diet to play Randy 'The Ram' Robinson.
"It was physically brutal. I had to do seven and a half months of extensive weightlifting, and eating six or seven meals a day, to put on 27 pounds of muscle," he told The Sun.
"That's not a lot of time, so I had this ex-soldier who was very strict with me about my training regime and my diet. This guy took it personally if I didn't show up.
"I was staying in a hotel and I had a late night and I wasn't answering a phone call from him and he actually came up to the room and I tried to get up in a little ball and put the covers over me in hopes that he would go away. The jerk went down and got the key."
Rourke added: "He got paid well, but it wasn't that with him. It was the principle and I really respected him. Then there was four and a half months of wrestling training. By the time the movie started I thought it was over!" Author: spratt89 Time: 1-8-2009 01:55 Subject: Pegg, Frost confirmed for 'Tintin'

"No, absolutely cannot. I absolutely can't. I can't do Brummie. I really can't do Scottish," she said.
Winslet stars alongside 18-year-old David Kross in the movie and admitted that she took the lead in a nude scene with him. "Having been in that position myself when I was younger and being absolutely terrified I was able to share that experience with him," she said.

Frost/Nixon star Rockwell, who was an early candidate to play Iron Man, would take the role of multi-billionaire businessman Justin Hammer, a rival industrialist of Tony Stark, the hero's alter ego.

"It's fallen apart," he told Empire. "Frank Cotrell Boyce and I were going to do it for DreamWorks but sadly no longer. Sorry about that - wonderful novel[s]."
On the prospect of working on a new Judge Dredd film, Boyle said reports linking him to the 2000 AD sci-fi franchise were not accurate.

Three British actors are among the nominees for this year's Orange Rising Star Award at the BAFTAs.
Doctor Who's Noel Clarke, Frost/Nixon actress Rebecca Hall and RocknRolla star Toby Kebbell make up the British contingent.
Arrested Development's Michael Cera and Irish actor Michael Fassbender, who appeared in Steve McQueen's award-winning Hunger, complete the shortlist.
Previous winners of the title include Eva Green, James McAvoy and Shia LaBeouf.
LaBeouf, who announced the names earlier today, commented: "I was delighted to win the Orange Rising Star Award last year, especially as it is an award voted for by members of the British public.
"Since then I've had a really busy year working on a number of projects that I'm really proud of and 2009 looks like it's going to be just as hectic!"
A jury, which featured BAFTA producer and chair David Parfitt, casting director Fiona Weir, James McAvoy and Kelly Macdonald, selected the nominees from a long list of recommendations from BAFTA members.
The winner will be voted for by the public and announced at the BAFTA ceremony on Sunday, February 8. Author: spratt89 Time: 1-8-2009 09:00 Subject: Warner 'puts all DC movies on hold'
David Goyer has revealed that Warner Brothers have halted work on all upcoming movies based on DC Comics.
The Dark Knight co-writer confirmed that development on forthcoming features such as Supermax and Justice League has been stopped indefinitely.
"A lot of the DC movies at Warner Brothers are all on hold while they figure out, they're going to come up with some new plan, methodology, things like that so everything has just been pressed pause on at the moment," he told IESB.
Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and the sequel to 2006's Superman Returns have also been affected.
"It was the double header of both Iron Man and The Dark Knight coming out," he added. "I think DC was responsible for 15% of Warner Brother's revenue this year, something crazy like that, so they realised that comic books, it's become a new genre, one of the most successful genres." Twilight star Taylor Lautner will return for the film's forthcoming sequel, it has been confirmed.
Lautner, who played Jacob Black in the first instalment, had been a doubt for New Moon after executives at Summit Entertainment were reportedly concerned that the 16-year-old might not be able to carry off the new physical requirements of the character.
However, New Moon director Chris Weitz has ended speculation of Lautner being replaced by revealing that the actor will definitely return for the highly-anticipated follow-up.
"It was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part," he said.
"I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I'm looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realising the film."
Lautner recently revealed that he had been hitting the gym in a bid to bulk up for the movie, which is scheduled to start shooting early this year. Author: spratt89 Time: 1-8-2009 13:54 Subject: Stars turn out for 'Notorious' premiere

The couple joined Sean 'Diddy' Combs on the red carpet in New York yesterday (Wednesday) to pay respect to the late rapper.
The biopic tells the story of Wallace's life from his humble New York beginnings up until his assassination in 1997.
Diddy, who attended the screening with the late star's mother Voletta, praised the movie's message.
"It's a great day for my man Biggie," he said. "People finally get to meet Christopher Wallace when they see the movie. This movie makes you dance, it makes you laugh, it makes you cry and it makes you respect life and appreciate what you have in front of you."

The Mean Girls star insisted that she worked just as hard as her contemporaries but claimed that people found it hard to separate her media persona from her professional side.

Michael Sheen has confessed that he secretly tailed Sir David Frost as preparation for his role in the forthcoming Frost/Nixon.
Sheen, who portrays Frost in the movie adaptation of the hit play, revealed that he was determined to nail the veteran journalist's mannerisms.
"I just followed him. That sounds a bit creepy, doesn't it? I took photographs of the back of his head. I wanted to watch how he walked and then I took a picture to get his stance. It is a bit weird," he told WENN.
Frost/Nixon, which is directed by Ron Howard, details the dramatic post-Watergate television interviews between Frost and former US President Richard Nixon (Frank Langella) in 1977.
Earlier this week Frost branded aspects of the film as "fiction", claiming that the screenwriter adapted actual events to make a more audience-friendly movie. Author: spratt89 Time: 1-8-2009 15:09 Subject: Warners urges quick 'Watchmen' decision
Warner Bros has asked the judge in the Watchmen copyright case to bring forward his decision regarding a potential release date delay.
Judge Gary Allen Feess recently ruled that 20th Century Fox still owns copyright interest in the movie, which is based on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons's comic book, and has the right to distribute the first feature film based on the work. He set a January 20 hearing date to determine whether or not to delay the movie while all rights issues are settled.
However, Warner Bros has urged Feess to bring forward the court date, claiming that "time is critical" because they do not want to invest further millions in a film that they may be unable to release.
Arguing against an injunction to postpone the film's release, Warners said that Fox "abandoned" the movie in 1994 and that they have spent more than $150 million to make and market the film, using a "carefully choreographed" plan to debut it on March 6 in the US. They added that a release delay would damage their finances and those of third party exhibitors.
Feess recommended that both studios settle the dispute, but neither party could agree on a compensation deal. Author: spratt89 Time: 1-9-2009 02:42 Subject: Farrell lined up for Weir's 'Way Back'

Following the release of the blockbuster last summer, speculation has been mounting about a possible follow-up. However, Roven revealed that he is unaware that any concrete decisions have been taken yet.
"I know that Chris [Nolan] and [writer] David Goyer are talking and thinking. We're hoping, of course, that they find and rest on something that they'll find is worthy to do, but we don't know anything more than you do right now," he told MTV.

Jamie Bell has revealed that Daniel Craig saved him from getting hypothermia.
The actor admitted that without Craig's "Hollywood power" he could have fallen seriously ill.
The pair were shooting outdoor scenes in Lithuania for their new movie Defiance when the Billy Elliot actor grew colder and colder.
"The conditions were ripe for a bout of, 'I'm not f**king doing this!' but the closest we got was Daniel standing up for me one day in the rain at the end of October, it was absolutely freezing," Contactmusic quotes him as saying.
"My body started to lose control, going into hypothermic shock, I think. He said, 'We have to stop, he's starting to freak out and he's going to die'. He used his Hollywood power for good."
Bell added that Craig's on-screen 'manly' demeanour similar to his real-life personality.
"It's daft, because you do have to be butch in the presence of Bond, but Daniel has a really good heart and said, 'You need to take a second and then come back'. He's very much the leader that he portrays in this film."

Sacha Baron Cohen has offended viewers of his new movie by featuring a black character called Jesus who wears a loincloth and crown of thorns.
The actor, who rose to fame as Ali G, upset 'more religious' viewers at a test screening of his new feature film Bruno: Delicious Journeys Through America For The Purpose Of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable In The Presence Of A Gay Foreigner In A Mesh T-Shirt.
"Sacha has really gone for the shock tactics this time," a source told The Sun.
"The characters were created deliberately to wind certain sections of society up and Jesus is one of them.
"It won’t be the first time Sacha has landed himself in hot water. The water might be a little hotter this time round though. Religion isn’t always the best place to poke fun."
The movie also mocks Madonna's adoption of Malawian David Bacnda in a plot that sees gay Austrian fashion correspondent Bruno and his boyfriend deciding to adopt an African baby, also named David.

Nicole Kidman reportedly "squirmed" in her seat when she attended the world premiere of Australia.
The 41-year-old actress told a Sydney radio station that she was too nervous to watch her performance in the Baz Luhrmann epic.
"I can't look at this movie and be proud of what I've done," she told 2dayFM. "I sat there and looked at [husband] Keith [Urban] and went 'Am I any good in this movie?'
"I don't usually see my films, but because of Baz I had to see it. I saw Moulin Rouge. I've really only seen that and this in my whole career. It gets worse as I get older."
Kidman also revealed that she was so unnerved by seeing Australia that she fled the country after the premiere.

Toby Kebbell has admitted that he is disappointed to see his RocknRolla character compared to Pete Doherty.
The gangster movie's director Guy Ritchie has claimed that his rock star creation Johnny Quid is based on the troubled Babyshambles frontman.
However, Kebbell is keen to distance himself from those comparisons, telling Digital Spy: "No, I kind of got disappointed that that got mixed up into it because my whole aim was to really make him as disgusting as possible.
"I'm sure people out there will go, 'yeah, well [Doherty] is disgusting'. You can appreciate that from photographs when you see how bad he looks. But when you watch a film it's slightly different. In the film, all you can see is my abdominals. I was thin, beyond thin."
Kebbell, who has also starred in Dead Man's Shoes and Control, added of his character: "He's a crack addict and I wanted that to seem like it's disgusting that it's alright to waste time in drugs. He beats up a bouncer with a pencil, how foul is that? [The bouncer] slaps you and tells you you're not coming in so he stabs you to death with a pencil. That's a bit over the top isn't it?!
"To have Pete Doherty chucked into the mix with that makes it like I was trying to be like one of the cool, hip rockers of the moment and I wasn't at all. I was trying to say, isn't it disgusting that it's alright and you're capable, purely through talent, to waste your life?"

Prince Of Persia star Toby Kebbell has claimed that filming the video game adaptation was akin to an "epic journey".
Kebbell, one of the nominees for this year's Orange Rising Star BAFTA, described the experience of working on the Jake Gyllenhaal blockbuster as "phenomenal".
He said: "I never like to say phenomenal when you're wearing the same beard for nine months and you have to brush it out for nine hours. It's like pubes, always like that!
"[It was] 54 degrees centigrade on the edge of the Sahara in 18 kilos of armour on horseback. But they're like epic journeys in themselves. I'm blessed, I've got nothing to complain about."

Toby Kebbell has revealed that he won a part in Woody Allen's Match Point without having to audition.
The British actor, who appeared as a police officer in the 2005 movie, disclosed to Digital Spy that he wasn't made to audition by Allen because the legendary director was impressed by his performance in the violent drama Dead Man's Shoes.
"Woody Allen, [Match Point] was the second part I did after Dead Man Shoes," Kebbell commented. "He did see Dead Man's Shoes and I didn't even have to audition. It's a small mouse fart part, he gave me that just from seeing it."
Kebbell added that he is often given the freedom to utilise his improvisational skills by the directors he's worked with, who also include Oliver Stone, Guy Ritchie and Shane Meadows.
"When it came to filming [Match Point], Woody Allen said, 'I don't like the script, can you come up with something?'" he commented. "There's a line in Control where they say, 'how did you convince Tony?' and I said, 'I tied a laggy band around his c**k and balls.' That was just because we had nothing to say. I've been lucky, I've had some very well-written scripts as well."
Kebbell, along with Noel Clarke, Rebecca Hall, Michael Cera and Michael Fessbander, has been nominated for this year's Orange Rising Star BAFTA. Speaking to Digital Spy, Kebbell admitted that he is hoping to work again with Meadows and his Dead Man's co-star Paddy Considine on a film about late boxer Bartley Gorman.
He said: "I'd love that. I hope he does a film called King Of The Gypsies. I think it's tied up in some kind of legal problem. That's the one I hope he does, I would love to play Bartley Gorman as a younger man.
"You can see the documentary on YouTube, it's about a bare-knuckle boxing champion. He's a phenomenal character, he had the head the size of a barrel, an animal of a man. Hopefully I'll make that film and Paddy will play him older and I'll play him younger or I'll play one of his brothers, who were also fascinating bare-knuckle fighters.

Jaime King has explained the reason behind the delay in making the highly-anticipated sequel to 2005's Sin City.
The actress, who starred as twin sisters Goldie and Wendy, suggested that creative differences between the studio and the filmmakers had postponed production.
"I think when Sin City came out it was such a big hit for the studio but the studio is frustrating…sometimes studios are awesome because they have a great vision for something, but then they want to do weird things with the second one," she told Collider.
"[Director] Robert [Rodriguez] didn’t want to go down that route, so we’ve just been waiting till somebody knocked some sense into them, where we can do it the way we want to do it.
"None of the filmmakers or the actors were willing to sacrifice doing it any other way other than what we wanted to do it. I’m hoping we’ll do it sometime this year, but you know how movies are."
Earlier this month, Frank Miller announced that he had finished writing the script for Sin City 2 but said that casting had not yet started.
