Well this was an interesting show but one annoyance i have is amount of smoking on the show-i realise they are trying show culture back in 1930's but it really annoys me. on the whole concept of the show is very good but on series it's very boring but not boring in sense no story-line it fact that it take time for you get close to the characters it ain't one of those show you can say yep he's my favourite character more show to see what happens during the episode.

Mad Men is set in the 60's, not the 30's.  I don't mean to be a pedant, but the era is, in many ways, the principal subject of the show.  That's one of the reasons it's not very engaging, at first; we invest in a show when we invest in its characters.  In other words, I agree with much of what you've said (though I'm not bothered by smoke I can't smell).  But I'm trying hard to warm up to the show, as I admire the complexity of its vision.  It's a satire of the 60's that's also a little bit in love with the era, which I find intriguing.

I'm not bothered by the smoking, it's just so weird to see people smoking everywhere, but that's how it used to be. Can you imagine?  Also the kids rolling all around the car as there mother is driving, pregnant women drinking, etc... we've come along way since the 60's.  I think that's what i like about the show, it shows how much has changed since then.

the show is set in the very beginning of the 60's so it feels more like the 50's.  I can't wait until the actual 60's emerges from this show, then it will become more and more interesting, although I feel like it's one of  the most well written shows on tv today.
you have to keep watching it gets better and better

Don and Betty's friends have important roles this week: Don's shows intense loyalty, while Betty's horseback riding friend, Sara Beth, shares some inner wishes.

Pete continues to be on the lookout for opportunities to move himself to another level at the office while Freddy may be sliding back down.

This isn't the type of show i normally watched but i just love how character inter-act with each other-it's  nice to see  women in a tv show more traditional role .

It would've been nice if the kid belonged to the other guy she slept with.

I hope her fling is revealed to Don....and it doesn't remain a secret between the audience & Betty

Don finding out his work collogue being gay was a surprise i liked how he used it as part of advertising campaign . did anyone understand start of this episode with that women in his dreams ?
Author: Milks26    Time: 8-18-2009 23:27     Subject: Reply 6#6 bala's post

He was just having a re-call of the mid-wife bringing his brother Dick home. (so Dick was not his brother by blood)

But, the main point of the dream was that his step-mom had a miscarriage. It might be a fear that he has now that Betty is pregnant.

Overall, the premiere was boring. Poor Sal, he's first fling and he gets caught. Where was Duck throughout this episode?

I am wondering if anyone else is finding that only seasons 1 to 4 are listed?  I've talked to other members and they have season 5 on their program.

I've started watching and it's CRAZY the amount of smoking and drinking.  Throughout the day. These are some seriously high functioning alcoholics!  Lol.

I'm enjoying the story plot!
Author: Milks26    Time: 8-28-2014 19:25     Subject: Reply 8#8 arksongbird80's post

I started watching the show a few years back because I was curious as to why it was winning so many awards.....in the end I still have can't figure it out. I think I made it to season 3 but then I got bored...the show can have the effect on someone.

Like you said there's a lot of drinking and smoking, plus sexual harassment going on, but it depicts social 60s well. Oddly enough such behaviors would crush someone's career today.

I've finished season 1.  I'm not sure where Betty is headed now, knowing the husband was calling the doctor.  I'm sure she's setting someone up but I'm not really sure if it's either, or both.  Sorry about her modeling.

At least Peggy's career is moving forward and now we know why she got so Fat!  LOL

Peter is a total blech!
Author: arksongbird80    Time: 9-2-2014 08:20

I'm finding that Betty is beyond selfish and self absorbed.  I can't even figure out if she likes her kids or not.  She's not very nice to them.  Never says please or thank you.

I like don a bit more now that he's not shagging everything in a skirt.

Peggy's hair is so much better and I like her ambition!
