Timing out, Invalid Errors Loading, Communicating & Buffering, Losing Points and other Easy Real Player Tips!

Most Real Player problems, are simple and can be fixed with in this thread

First follow these three rules:

1. Make sure you are watching in Real Player or Theater mode.

2. Make sure this isn't the show you are watching, try to watch other shows, using the Free Shows on the VIP Channel (so you don't lose points) if it is the show you are watching click HERE and report your problem.

3. Refresh your browser (try again), close your browser (try again), shut off computer (try again).

~To play in RP or RP Theater mode~
after you click on hyperlink (episode), and the player pop-up window pops up (with the program in it), click on the in the lower right hand corner (some people have to right-click), then choose 'Play in Real Player' or 'Play in Real Player Theater Mode'.

You should ALL know, you should be using Internet Explorer and Google Chrome  as your browser or Safari for Mac. Firefox has some compatible problem with Realplayer, please don't use it to visit vip.tv-video.net.

If you are having problems, with Real Player 11, do a " clean uninstall" and go to Real Player version 10.5 and reinstall this version. Most members have few problems and, a better picture with this version.

Vista Users- If you are having difficulty, with Real Player 11 & 10.5. Do a "clean uninstall" and try downloading Real Player Alternative You can also download K-lite Mega Codec Pack. Click here for info on this package. Or go to K-lite Mega Codec Pack to download directly. K-lite Mega codec pack includes Real Alternative codecs, along with many other A/V codecs (including Quick Time Alternative)

Clean uninstall..... After you uninstall RP, you will see a pop-up after you uninstall RP, that it was unable to remove some of the RP files. If all of the files are not removed it can cause many problems, some very small, some very bothersome. So it's best, to do a "clean uninstall". To do that, first go to Start> go to Control Panel> go to Add & Remove Programs> scroll to Real player> then uninstall Real Player, close Control Panel
Go to Start> to My Computer> to C-Drive> to Program Files> to "Real" & (R-click on "Real" and delete the file).
Then while you are still in Program Files double click on Common Files> to "Real" & (R-click on the "Real" file and delete the file). Then reinstall a fresh RP.

Time Outs Invalid Errors
Make sure you are playing in RP, and have followed the other rules, these will help decrease the Timing out and Invalid errors (gray screen). Also, if you are getting Error messages (gray screen) you can just hit the stop button and click on play to re-start the program, this will keep you from losing points.

Parameter Setting Error: Most times, you just need to close the pop-up box and refresh your page for this.
If this doesn't solve the issue, open the Real player program (from your pc) then click on File> click Open> then type in "http://vip.tv-video.net/" and click OK. You should be able to, view and play shows, through the Real Player web browser.

***With some errors (that you get in first pop-up window), you can still click on the icon (lower right) and play in Real Player or Real Player theater mode, without any difficulties.***

For further help see, Changing Real Player Settings (at the bottom)

Point Deduction: You have 30x (clicks on the hyperlink) per episode, in 24hrs: Before point's will be deducted again.

Losing Points Due to Error's or Malfunction
If you have lost points in error or due to any malfunction, you can send a copy of your viewing history to lbjedward (one of our Admins),via PM and he will be happy to help you, get back all the points you lost and with any other questions you might have. Just got to the home page of vip.-tv-video.net, in the upper right corner you will find the "Members Center" and in the members center you will find your "Viewing History" 5th down, in the left hand column, click on it and it will display your entire viewing history.

Communicating.....Buffering.......
Again, Make sure you're in a RP mode, when it starts to load, hit the pause button and let it load for 15mins or so, till it's about 50% loaded. You will be able to tell it's loading by the green or blue, "clip position" bar at the bottom of screen. This should make it so you can view your program.

Tips for all of the above and more.....

If you had more than a few programs open, during or just before the problem started, follow rule #4.
If it's not and this continues to happen, try watching during different times of the day, congestion of the site can cause several problems, from Timing out, Invalid Errors, to loading and communicating & buffering problems.

However, there will always be a very few people, that unfortunately will not be able to fix there problems as easy as this. You may have to, change your Real Player Settings.

Change your Real Player Settings

- Sometimes, Real Player settings need to be configured, so they work with your computer......

.
If you need further assistance, go to Real Player Troubleshooting Tips or for MAC MAC OS X RealPlayer Troubleshooting Guide (Solutions &Tips), where there will be instructions, on configuring Real Player, to your computer.

If not, you can always come back and post a question here, or go to our Live CS for the most advanced help we offer. If they are off-line make sure you leave a message and someone will always get back to you.

Hi, please HELP! I have been trying to watch shows and I always get the parameter setting error, I have tried what you wrote above and nothing, also if you could explain what it means since I have tried to watch on different computers and nothing. The funny thing is that once I was able to watch a free show without signing in, but once I signed in to watch a VIP show I got the error again, I have points but I haven't been able to use them because of this problem. Please tell me what to do, I really want to watch my series. Thanks

Try this open Realplayer itself then menu then open then type in "http://viptv.net/index/" and click ok afterwards navigate the site via Realplayer's Media Browser and try opening one of the free shows and see if that will work for you.

Hi lucas, sorry to hear you are having trouble.

If you are leaving the page idle (inactive) for a while, make sure to hit he Refresh button before loading a new show as the speed can sometimes change. If that doesn't work, make sure Realplayer connection speed is set to what your Bandwidth is allowing at that time. To do that, follow these easy steps in Realplayer:

1. In RealPlayer, click the Tools menu, and then select Preferences. The Preferences box opens.
2. In the Category pane, click Connection.
3. Click the Test Connection button, then the Perform Test button to determine your current connection speed.
4. Click the Update button to set your minimum bandwidth preference.
5. Click OK.
6. Try to play the clip again.

Hi Lucas, I'm afraid at this stage it's a process of elimination. The link Magic provided above is a list of things you can go through, one by one, to figure out the issue. Try the things Roca mentioned also. If none of the above works, try reinstalling Realplayer and Firefox. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Hi What causes the screen to go green? I have this problem when watching either the US or EU versions and normally this rectifies itself. However I have now been trying to watch episode five of The Shield season 7 for the past 10 minutes and versions keep colouring over and you only get the sound. Also, is there any way whilst watching the standard tv video channel of enlarging the screen past the teeny tiny one?! The largest I can get it to is really small! Thanks for your help LOVE THE SITE! Hi.. I currently live in china and of course I want to be able to follow all the shows I have become adicted to.. However, when I try to enter the vip channel all i get is this message written with yellow letters on black background: "Sorry, the site is under an important maintenance, please visit us later." I would like to know if this is because I am in China or if there is some way this problem can be solved Regards, Jake

Jake, no that shouldn't be the case at all. This is an international site, in fact this site originated from China (most of our admin team are based there). I wonder was there some maintenance going on when you tried to access. I just tried to view some shows there and they worked fine for me. Can you try again and let us know how you get on?

Have you uninstalled it a couple times? I found that you have to do a "clean" uninstall to make sure all of it got out of the system before you install again. If you want to know how to do a clean uninstall, go to the first post of this thread...RP now works for me and I can get on with life!

Author: slinky_whippet    Time: 1-15-2009 03:45     Subject: Best time to watch

Hey guys, Ive had no end of trouble watching Supernatural and 30 Rock with it getting stuck on 'Communicating xx%' and being stuck there when me and my husband went to watch them in the evening, but watched Eli Stone during the day with no problems. I am presuming this might be due to heavy usage around the world so I was wondering when the worst/best times are to watch stuff...I live in the UK but can convert times. Its just that we brought credits so we could watch stuff together and its getting really frustrating. Thanks, Rebecca
Author: bala    Time: 1-15-2009 04:02     Subject: Reply 36#36 slinky_whippet's post

That's very difficult tell you because at any time there could be a problem best way use free shows basis to test what best time for you . We can't tell you exactly when best time to watch none of can give accurate time. we assume in uk morning and afternoon will best time but anything after 5pm onwards can be busy time on here.
Author: minkeygirl    Time: 1-20-2009 11:54

I've been having loads of problems viewing from the UK too. In the last week House, BSG and Dexter have all been unwatchable, each stopping part-way through episodes with the message 'Communicating (x%)'. I've reinstalled Real v.11 and its made no difference. One Dexter episode (3x08) stopped at the same point each time I watched it (on different days). I've never had the problem before - Real v.11 was working fine for weeks with Firefox. This site used to be fantastic, but the speed / stopping issues are making it unusable - shame as I just bought loads of points! If anyone's got any possible fixes that I can try I'd be really grateful. Cheers
Author: gabsimom    Time: 1-20-2009 12:34     Subject: Reply 38#38 minkeygirl's post

The best thing to do is to left click the realplayer icon when the viewing window pops up and choosing to play in real player mode. When the show starts hit pause go make a snack get your drink and bathroom break out of the way then hit play and enjoy. If you need more help please ask.
Author: minkeygirl    Time: 1-21-2009 01:33

Thanks for the reply gabsimom. I do usually give it 10 mins before I start to view. This seems to be a site/real/firefox issue rather than connection speed, as I have had no problem streaming from other sites recently, and I've tested my broadband speed (which is higher than average). Last night I tried to watch the latest episode of House - I waited 10 mins before watching but the connection stopped about 12 mins in - I paused it for 30 mins but it didn't restart. Many thanks for the help though
Author: shinny    Time: 1-21-2009 02:23     Subject: Reply 40#40 minkeygirl's post

Just a quick question, are you watching it via Realplayer mode (by clicking the blue R at the bottom right of the screen) or just on the screen that initially opens up? When I watch it in realplayer mode and if it stalls, I generally drag the bar up about 10/15 seconds. This usually "kick starts" it into buffering again. The other thing is that if you have the patience, to let it actually fully load in Realplayer mode before you start watching it (so the bar turns blue all the way to the end which indicates it is fully loaded) Try both of these and let us know how you get on.
Author: minkeygirl    Time: 1-21-2009 11:12

Thanks again! I tried this today, and it was a great improvement. The play still stopped at one point (in the middle of the blue bar that had already been buffered), but I did your trick and skipped 30 secs or so and it started again. I'll try it again on a few of the 'problem' episodes and see how it goes. Cheers

Hi, I've recently bought a new laptop and have been trying to download my favorite shows so that I can watch them at my leisure. I did this with my old system and never had any issues. Hey there, the very fact that it works ok on your laptop suggests to me that it's something incorrectly set on your PC. Did you recheck all the settings on Realplayer after you reinstalled it? Like your connection speed etc? If you hadn't then have a read through this guide => RealPlayer Troubleshooting Guide (Solutions & Tips)

Also, I have seen this same issue, several times. When you uninstalled RP, did you do a "clean uninstall"?
If not go to first post, in this thread, and follow "clean uninstall" directions.
This could be the issue.

Hi. I recently got a brand new computer, and though everything else is better, I'm having problems watching shows. The main thing, and the thing I think would help the most if I could fix it, is that my blue loading bar is gone. This didn't seem to make any difference when watching old eps of Stargate, but I've been watching the free American Idol and it stops to communicate all the time and I have no idea if it's even loaded because the bar is not there. Has anyone had this problem? I read all of this thread and the troubleshooting thread and went through all the RealPlayer settings, but I can't find it mentioned anywhere. Oh, and it randomly DOES have the blue bar - I'd say once, maybe twice in twenty. If it matters, I have Vista 64 and RealPlayer 11. Also, just want to say I've been a monthly member for a loooong time now (I just think of it as my cable bill - don't even watch regular tv anymore ), and never had any real problems. I love this site and would really like to fix this. Please help! Thanks!
Author: waterlilybarb    Time: 3-9-2009 14:57     Subject: Reply 54#54 weezie's post

Try doing a clean uninstall. I had the same problem before and that took care of it. Here are the instructions:

Quote:
Clean uninstall..... After you uninstall RP, you will see a pop-up after you uninstall RP, that it was unable to remove some of the RP files. If all of the files are not removed it can cause many problems, some very small, some very bothersome. So it's best, to do a "clean uninstall".
To do that, first go to Start> go to Control Panel> go to Add & Remove Programs> scroll to Real player> then uninstall Real Player, close Control Panel.

Author: weezie    Time: 3-9-2009 17:06

Thank you for your advice, waterlilybarb. I followed your instructions exactly and I still have no loading bar. Some people have said that RealPlayer 10.5 is better for this site than 11, do you think this could be the problem?
Author: waterlilybarb    Time: 3-9-2009 19:42     Subject: Reply 56#56 weezie's post

It does work better for some people. Everyone's system configuration is different and it's just a matter of figuring out what works best for you.

I just realized you said you have a new computer, which most likely means you're running on Vista. For many Vista users Real Alternative works better than RealPlayer. If that's the case, once again make sure to do a clean uninstall before installing Real Alternative.

Hope that helps.

I did a bit of research and found, that Vista 64 bit users, have had good luck with Real Player 10.5. If you haven't tried this, I would suggest you do a "clean uninstall", clear your cache (Firefox Tools). and then install RP 10.5.

I'm ok now, thankfully. Some crazy computer weirdness. I had done all of those previously suggested things as well as read through the troubleshooting tips, but had some malware that was causing it to behave unfavorably.
Author: mssweet    Time: 5-7-2009 16:15     Subject: Why does this always happen =/

I have been using this site for awhile and I keep running into problems. My latest is one that has happened before. I have tried everything that has been suggested in this thread but nothing seems to work. I was watching Medium and was on my third episode of the day but everytime I try to watch it a black screen just loads and says done. I click the epi link, the window comes up, says its connecting, then just a black screen with 'done' at the bottom left. It wont even give me a chance to see the real player icon cause that is what I usually watch it in. So I try and paste the link into real player which has worked for other problems I have had but doesnt work for this. I was hoping this wouldnt come back again as I had left for awhile because of the problems I kept having on this site that dont seem to occur with others. I have watched plenty of shows on this site and then all of a sudden another problem. I have tried most everything and am really tired of trying things just to get it to work. Anyone else having this problem or that could offer some advice? Thank you, Lisa

Perhaps you need to do a clean uninstall and reinstall realplayer.

As of 1030 BST Realplayer is requiring an update to play content from this site, however Realplayer Autoupdate says that there's no update avaliable. Is this because I've messed up the settings on my end (and if so, how do I fix it)? Thanks Garbler

Make sure to use the EU server. Also, if you're on a Mac, make sure that Real Player is your default player. If you need to play with some of the settings, do it with a free show. If you post which show & episode you're trying to watch I'll check it to make sure the episode itself isn't having trouble. Thanks.

Sorry, US server works now.
For MAC users: If Quicktime pops up instead of Realplayer,
Please go to Realplayer page: Help---Reset Realplayer---click on "Next" to the end.
It will solve the problem.

Thanks LBJ. I'm sure our Mac users will be happy to have such a simple solution.

I have this exact problem. Even tried reset realplayer but it worked the first round, then completely died again. Now it's always either "contacting" then eventually time out error or "failed to connect to the server"....

Hello, After the VIP site upgrade, it now takes at least 7 to 10 minutes for the any show to load. I have tried all of the above and a lot more from advice taken from various websites to do with real player problems but nothing seems to work. If you are kind enough to respond, please do not ask if i have done any of the above because i have done it all. And even when the show loads, every 5 minutes or so, it has to load again and takes another 5 minutes each time. It is extremely difficult to watch a show. I have tried the above not only in my country, but two other countries as well and it is the same problem. I am using both macbook pro and imac with the same results. Oh, and for movieonline.cc, i have to load it with real player 10 as it wont work with realplayer 11. This is normal you may say but the thing is, i can only load viptv.net shows on realplayer 11 and that takes forever. So, to break it down, If i want to watch a series on vip, i have to use realplayer 11 and it takes forever. If i want to watch a movie on movieonline, i have to remove realplayer 11 and download and install realplayer 10. quite ridiculous, what did you guys do when you upgraded?

Have you checked out this thread? It is specific to Mac users since the upgrade. Please let me know if there are any suggsestions there that are helpful to you. Don't bother tying the ones you've already tried - but we had help from some members, so hopefully there will be something useful there for you.

Author: candyk    Time: 7-21-2009 12:31     Subject: realplayer does not work

i have been having a lot of issues with realplayer. i have the lastest version, but there seems to be a problem with it when you have vista 64x. i have spoken to the tech help on real.com and no one has been able to help me. I used to use this site all the time and now that i got a new computer i cant watch anything without it having to "connecting" every few minutes and the videos wont load (it does not matter how long you wait nothing happens no blue lines to show you how far you can watch) once the streaming stops there is basically nothing to do but start from the beginning of the episode and then pray that it works. I am using 512 DSL line so that is not the problem, and i dont have firewalls up. If there is anyone who can help me with this i would appreciate it. Supposedly realplayer is not compatible with the 64x but some people can still use it. If anyone has a new computer with Vista 64x i would love some help. Thanks, a very frustrated customer

I had to reinstall version 10.5 because 11 doesn't work for me at all. Once I put 10.5 back on, everything was fine. Give it a go and let us know how you get on.
Author: Heartfang    Time: 8-5-2009 18:21     Subject: Dual display cause my realplayer to freeze

I had subscribed for unlimited viewing and had no problems watching my old tv shows for a week. That is until I hook up another lcd monitor to my graphics card to try out its dual support function. It was pretty neat to have two screens. But later my realplayer could not load my shows to 100%. It always got stuck up to 50 or 66% I did what is told in the forums. Reinstall real player, restart pc etc. Nothing works. I wasn't able to watch any shows. Finally I decided to use single monitor again and finally I was able to watch the shows normal again. Anybody had any problems watching tv shows on real player using dual screen? Just thought I share my experience with this problem.
Author: dognxtdoor    Time: 8-6-2009 16:11     Subject: Reply 93#93 Heartfang's post

It seems odd that the dual screen should cause any issue with RealPlayer. Are you clicking on the real player logo and choosing to play in realplayer mode? Or are you using the first player that opens when you click on a show?

Here is an alternative way in case the initial pop up window seemed broken or the connecting message hanged (like it is still connecting in about half an hour)... first, leave the initial pop up window open... then open your Real Player and click the File... in the drop down menu, point your mice to New then select the New Web Browser... a new window will open... go back to the initial pop up window and copy the link and paste it to the New Web Browser window.. ... then hit the enter key...you will be prompted to log in your account... log in then and wait for about 5 seconds to load and then follow the usual way if you want to watch it in Real Player mode... Hope this will help... Goodluck!

Author: thetillmans    Time: 8-26-2009 01:57     Subject: Getting stuck loading

Hi, Been using both free and vip for a while now. Past few weeks the VIP (not free) has been getting stuck while loading. Gets to various %'s (most frustrating is 99%!) and then does nothing. Tried lots of tricks... I typically login, play, wait for it to begin playing, then click play in realplayer, then wait for it to load in RP (pause, wait for caching, leave it overnight to complete with record on, etc), always leave the initial play window open in the background. I have tried with both IE and Firefox and the result is the same for both servers (EU and US) on Windows. I'm located in New Zealand. Seems to be worst in my evenings (server maintenance??). Downloads overnight or in the morning seem to work more often. I have better than dialup, but not much. I've extended all the RP settings for caching, etc to the max. Tried recording while playing and also "download to"... both left overnight, both same results. Mostly trying with "The Tudors". This all used to work like a charm... within the past month it has gotten to the point where it is barely usable. Takes like 10 attempts to get a full show. Seriously. Any advice, suggestions, etc would be greatly appreciated!!! This is our only connection to the make-believe world of TV!

If you been using it , it for a while with no problem but have recently experience problem may i asked did you update firefox browser recently because it seem on occasion the new firefox version 3.5.2 has some sort problem loading episodes. it does load however you might need to retry few times. This why you should disable auto-update on firefox. i notice keep old version (3.0) and you had no problems might i suggest re-install the old version and try again on free shows. i hope that should sort out the problems. please check what version you are running Secondly you are not suppose to download any episode you see on here-this is streaming website host episode not meant as download
