I'm actually excited about this show

However i have a feeling this is going to be a water-down vampire show for teens it has feeling of Roswell for some reason.

Yes it was good episode unfortunately sappy love songs in background became annoying. if you go past that the good thing about this episode you can predict what going happen this season i already have some idea what going to happen which is bad if you predict what's going happen based on first episode the show in trouble however let see how long it last   

i liked the explanation about rings that how they are able be in sunlight. i liked they told us that in the first episode which showed writer give credit audience to explain things i can't wait to see what's going happen.

How will Elena react to find out he's Vampire ?

No i don't because it was a risk i was willing to take at least i know next week i don't download new episode melrose place and this show . The good thing with download you can watch full screen picture without it being stretched.

Good first episode. It has a sort of Kane and Abel vibe to it too with the Good v Bad brother theme.

I think it's been made very well but it all depends on the storyline on whether or not this show will make it. With the success of True Blood it might just get the interest it needs, but it has to be as good as True Blood for it to last.

i completely agree True blood is good show that has complex but this shows more aimed for young teenager than adults however adults can watch them i think you just find hard relate because they are in high school. With true blood the character are all adult who have job so it's easier to enjoy that show.

Vampire Diairies drew an impressive 4.84 million viewers in its debut last night, making it The CW’s most-watched premiere ever (even beating 90210 last year). Among females 18-34 (a.k.a. The CW’s sweet spot), it notched a strong 3.1 rating.

Preliminary ratings suggest the fifth season premiere of Supernatural didn’t fare as well, drawing (a still decent) 3.4 million viewers.

I don't know... I'll have to watch a few more episodes before I make a decision.
I don't think True Blood and The Vampire Diaries have much in common (except for vampires, of course).
About the ring... I think Angel had a ring like that, didn't he?

It was so funny I watched with my husband and seeing the previews In walks evil brother and I told my husband wow he has to be really evil. My husband said why and I said cause he is the really good looking one, The eviler they are the better looking they get in most Vampire lore.

I loved the books as a teen, it will be interesting to see if they can make it work.  I am still worried they will completely ruin it.  The first episode was a good introduction.  I had some issue because I can't seem to get past some of the casting.  Oddly it is Damon, pictured him a bit older and colder.  I am looking forward to the next few episodes to see what they do, it is a bit Dark Shadows like.

Side note, there was a ring that Angel could wear into the sun as it made vampires invincible.  He destroyed it to prevent himself from living the prospects of pure joy- to save his soul.  And the Smith books were out before Angel, as I always wanted Whedon to try a show based on the Forbidden Game series she wrote.

I think this episode was setting us up for an all out war between the brothers. Damon doesn't want Stefan to know he still has feelings for Elena/Katherine and so now Stefan thinks he needs to be stopped. Should be an interesting couple of episodes coming up.

It's getting interesting now.....good theory Tina, I think you might be right about the people in the Church. Obviously the group of people, at the end of the episode are the descendants of the people who burned those in the Church. Or do you think they could be the originals?? Hard to know.

I really thought this was a great episode. We finally got to see some background and as obvious as it was (and it really was) we now know that Catherine turned the boys. I wonder how Elena will react to finding out she's identical to Catherine!!

When Damon snapped Vicki's neck I was totally shocked. Ok it was softened by the fact that he was turning her into a vampire, but it did make me jump.

And now we have a third vampire in Mystic falls. It's going to get interesting having a new fledgling female vampire running amuck !

I think it was telling that Damon saved Stefan. As much as he protests, he still loves his brother.

I really liked the interaction between Elena and Damon on their road trip. I like how he has a softer/nicer side around Elena, but he's still inherently bad/evil which gives him the edge.

I dunno Tina, I kinda like them both (I'm greedy !!)

Great episode. I hadn't suspected Jeremy's Library buddy up until this episode but I didn't suspect Ben at all!

So Mr Saltzman's wife is Elena's mystery Isabella? She seemed a bit too young to be her mother, but then again she was only 16 when she had her so it's plausible. I doubt Mr Saltzman is the father, obviously Isabella had some history before she met her husband.

Have to say this is definitely up there as one of my favourite episodes.

When Elena said that to Damon, there's definitely more of a connection than an "understanding" - Damon left the tomb only when Elena asked him to

Poor Damon finding out that Katherine was alive and well and not giving a damn about him. Obviously he'll still go looking for her and I've been thinking that when Katherine comes back to Mystic Falls she's not going to take too kindly to Elena. I bet Damon some how has to save Elena over Katherine, something like that.

It was a great episode to start the hiatus on even though I really wish there wasn't a fecking hiatus !!!

Roll on March 25th then!

Well not exactly a great plan was it the rescue was risky i mean rescue Stephan was good but didn't they think he would need blood now he's a proper vampire and i don't know the look Damon face was a surprise i would of thought he would happy but the look kind of suggest he was actually surprised.

The Uncle has given it a nice twist to the story as it was getting a bit boring lately.

He seems to know everything which is a lot more than anyone could possibly know.

Initially I thought he was a vampire but him having the same ring as the teacher and that he gave his ring to Elena's mum was unexpected.

I'm really looking forward to next weeks episode

Well Bonnie is back and it seems like she pick up few tricks from her grandma. .  

Damon and Elana did make a good couple when Stephan went on bringer but he did a nice thing that ending kind of show he cares for her. I kind of knew she was trank him (Highlight if you seen it/Spoilers)

Ok, on further investigation, if you watch it in Realplayer mode the issue doesn't happen. If you watch it from the first screen, it does.

Great episode this week. We saw the really bad side of Stefan. Elena and Damon have to take extreme measures to control him. I guess they are going to ween him of the stuff!
