Amy is completely annoyed that Raj is there until she reveals this to him, and then, being Mr. Romantic, he creates a phenomenal dinner experience for them. Wolowitz returns from space but doesn’t receive the praise and glory he expected from his friends and family. It starts when he comes through baggage claim at LAX, where Bernadette is waiting for him. People around start screaming, "Howie! Later, Wolowitz agrees to spend the night alone with Bernadette, but she comes down with a nasty cold, takes Benadryl, and passes out on him. He pays an early visit to his mother, who he finds in the midst of a tryst with his dentist, Dr. Schneider. After that, he visits Koothrappali and learns that Stuart has essentially taken his place as Koothrappali’s best friend. Meanwhile, Sheldon, Amy, Leonard, and Penny decide to have a group game night, which gets ultra-competitive when Sheldon starts losing at Pictionary. The foursome goes through a variety of games, including wrestling, Where’s Waldo, and more, before finishing with a pie eating contest. Bernadette confronts him about it and he gets dejected, feeling that everyone is belittling the greatest accomplishment of his life. If he stops talking about space, he's worried he'll just be plain old Howard Wolowitz. Bernadette tells him that regular Wolowitz is perfect for her. Meanwhile, Penny goes to visit Leonard at his lab and ultimately gets turned on by watching him work, resulting in them having sex almost every time he starts talking about science around her.

Later, it's revealed that Sheldon uses the 20 minutes to mentally decompress by playing hackey sack. Leonard gets jealous when Penny starts texting a British guy in her class, so he tries to scare the guy off. Penny eventually tells him she loves him, which calms him down, but then Sheldon's assistant Alex starts flirting with him.

Sheldon gets upset when his unused parking spot in a prime location at the university is reassigned to Wolowitz. He simply can’t swallow the idea that someone feels Wolowitz is more important than he is, and Wolowitz sees no reason that the spot shouldn’t be his, given that Sheldon doesn’t drive. What follows is a war of escalation between Sheldon and Wolowitz, where they each "steal” things the other holds dear because they "weren’t using it at the time.” As the girls talk over the issues between their significant others, Amy and Bernadette wind up getting drawn into the fight by proxy and become accomplices to the men. Eventually, their feud escalates to a point where Sheldon and Wolowitz start to realize how stupid it is, and Sheldon agrees to let Wolowitz use his spot, provided the space still has Sheldon’s name on it. Despite the guys reaching an agreement, Bernadette and Amy have not, and the episode ends with them staring daggers at one another over dinner.

Meanwhile, Howard is forced to go over to his in-laws for dinner, where Bernadette volunteers him to go on a fishing trip with her macho father. Leonard tries to get Sheldon to warm up to the idea of Christmas by playing a Christmas-themed Dungeons & Dragons game. As the game progresses, Sheldon has an opportunity to save Christmas by saving the (fictional) life of Santa Claus, but he chooses not to because he holds a grudge against the bearded Christmas icon. In doing so, he reveals that he’s hated Santa Claus ever since he was 8 years old, when he asked Santa Claus to bring his father back to him and Santa failed. In the end, the revelation (and fictional death of Santa) gives Sheldon some closure. Meanwhile, Koothrappali’s character gets killed off in the D&D game early on, so he goes out with the girls on a girls’ night and bonds with them. He reveals that he had a crush on both Penny and Bernadette, but not on Amy, so she spends all night flirting with him only to let him down at the end.

Episode 12: The Egg Salad Equivalency
Sheldon’s assistant, Alex, flirts with Leonard a little more openly, and he finally picks up on it. Leonard is intrigued by the prospect of being liked by two women at the same time, but he has no feelings for Alex whatsoever; he just likes the attention. When he discusses how to handle this issue with the guys, Sheldon immediately voices his displeasure with the scenario, feeling that Alex should focus on his work alone. Sheldon covertly tries to get advice from Penny, Amy, and Bernadette about what to do, but Penny figures out that he’s referring to Leonard and Alex and gets irritated. Sheldon tries to talk to Alex about it directly, but his suggestions come across as completely inappropriate and wind up getting him sent to Human Resources. While there, he dishes out dirt on some of the inappropriate things the other guys have done in the past, and they all get in trouble. In the end, Sheldon is forced to take an online sexual harassment course, and Leonard smoothes things over with Penny.

The guys decide to go to the Bakersfield ComicCon, but on the way, they opt to stop for some photos at the Vasquez Rocks, which is where many of the most famous episodes of Star Trek were filmed. Once there, they get distracted taking photos in their Star Trek costumes and someone steals their car, along with all their cell phones and everything inside it. They are forced to walk to the nearest diner, where they can call the police and a ride home. On the walk, they discuss the fact that they’re all grown men now, and that it might be time to move past their fixation on comic books and fantasy lore. Meanwhile, Penny, Amy, and Bernadette discuss their boyfriends’ fixation on comic books over dinner, and they decide that they should read one to see what all the fuss is about. They go to see Stuart at the comic book store, who is absolutely stunned to have women in his shop, and they eventually decide to read a comic about Thor because "he’s hot.” After reading it, the girls decide they don’t like it, but wind up getting in an argument over Thor’s hammer. To solve it, they start researching other comic book lore and wind up getting sucked into the fantasy world their boyfriend’s love so dearly. Fortunately, Kripke thinks Sheldon's work is suffering because he is constantly having sex with Amy, and Sheldon decides to go along with the lie to save face. Later, when Penny and Leonard confront Sheldon about it, he admits that he might actually sleep with Amy... one day. Meanwhile, Koothrappali and Wolowitz order personalized action figures in their likeness, but the figures they get look nothing like them at all. Determined to get their action figures, they decide to split the cost of a very expensive 3D printer to make their own figures. The printer works like a charm, but Bernadette gets upset when she learns how much Wolowitz spent and makes him get a refund.

Leonard gets upset with Sheldon when he spoils the ending of one of the Harry Potter books for him, so he storms over to Penny’s place to cool off. While there, he broaches the subject of moving in with Penny, which she isn’t ready for and can’t articulate properly. Unable to properly convey her feelings to Leonard, he plans on moving in, which gives Amy the opportunity to move in with Sheldon. Penny and Sheldon talk the apartment situation over and discover they're both against having their significant others move in, so decide they have to be honest about their feelings. When Sheldon talks to Amy, he winds up selling Penny out, saying that it’s all her fault because she doesn’t want Leonard to move in. Amy confronts Penny and Leonard overhears it, forcing Penny to tell him she's not ready to take that step with him yet. Meanwhile, Wolowitz is going to Vegas with Bernadette, so he asks Koothrappali to keep an eye on his mother, since she’s dealing with a break-up with her lover, the dentist. Thinking quickly, Leonard tries to propose to Penny, but she doesn't want to hear it. After arguing with Leonard and leaving the restaurant, they make up when Leonard vows to never to propose again, instead letting Penny be the once to propose if and when the time is right. Meanwhile, Amy tells Sheldon that she wants to celebrate Valentine's Day, and that she's found the perfect gift for him. Distressed and annoyed at being forced to celebrate a holiday he hates, Sheldon tells his assistant, Alex, to find the perfect gift for Amy. When Alex's suggestions don't satisfy him, he winds up making Amy his emergency contact at work, which she loves. Amy, in return, gives Sheldon nothing, which is exactly what he wanted, as well. Since Koothrappalli and Stuart are without Valentines, they throw a singles' party at the comic book store and it turns out to be a success.

After much debating, Wolowitz opts to not read the letter and burns it instead. Later, Bernadette, Amy, and Penny want to hear what the letter said, so they try to convince Sheldon to recite it to them, since he read it as he was cleaning. Leonard is away on the research vessel in the North Sea, and Penny and Sheldon are missing him. Sheldon doesn’t really come out and say it – but he clearly is clinging to Penny for comfort. In the meantime Koothrapoli is now able to talk to women without booze, but he remains heartbroken over Lucy. He runs into Ms. Davis at a University event, and they learn that they are both heartbroken, as her husband just left her. Bernadette and Amy are at a conference out of town together, and they decide to visit the hotel bar, where some guys try to buy them drinks. Later, they chat about the type of guys they like – and they end up weirdly describing Sheldon and Howard – but Amy describes Howard as her type, and Bernadette describes Sheldon.

Episode 2: The Deception Verification
Leonard surprises Penny by coming back from his research expedition early, but he wants to keep it secret from everyone else to spend some alone time with her. Sheldon figures out that Leonard came back without telling him, however, and gets very upset. Meanwhile, Howard has been acting snippy and sensitive lately, and Bernadette eventually figures out that it's due to the estrogen cream he's been rubbing on his mother.

Episode 3: The Scavenger Vortex
The gang decides to plan an epic scavenger hunt in the vein of the old college scavenger hunts at Princeton and M.I.T. Koothrappali acts as the game master and plans the event, while the rest of the group pairs off into teams: Amy with Wolowitz, Leonard with Bernadette, and Penny with Sheldon. As they go through the various challenges, Wolowitz and Amy bond over their mutual love of Neil Diamond, Penny and Sheldon work surprisingly well as a team, and Bernadette reveals her insanely competitive nature.

Episode 4: The Raiders Minimization
Sheldon is crushed when Amy manages to point out a major plot hole in Raiders Of The Lost Ark, one of his favorite films, so he tries to get back at her by ruining one of her favorite childhood shows. Meanwhile, Leonard takes advantage of Penny's sympathy for his mommy issues in order to get her to do the things he wants to do, and Koothrappali and Stuart decide to try out online dating.

Episode 5: The Workplace Proximity
When Amy is asked to work on an experiment at Caltech, she asks Sheldon if he has a problem if they work in proximity to each other. He tells her he does not take issue with it, but after he speaks to the guys about it, they convince him that working near her will be a recipe for trouble. Sheldon interrupts girls’ night at Penny’s to tell Amy that he has reconsidered and does not want her to accept the job, but Amy tells him it is too late to renege. After Amy shows up at Caltech, Sheldon realizes that he has overreacted and tries to make conversation with her colleagues, only to inadvertently embarrass her with his inappropriate comments. Working in proximity to each other thus becomes a problem for Amy rather than Sheldon. He ends up apologizing to Amy with a heartfelt speech about the difficulty of being in a relationship with someone who has trouble with everyday social situations. When she assures him that he isn’t a weirdo, Sheldon explains that he was referring to her as the socially awkward one in the relationship. Meanwhile, Bernadette is annoyed at Howard for warning Sheldon about the woes of working with a significant other and makes him stay at Koothrappali’s place. Howard and Koothrappali have fun living together like an old married couple. Bernadette and Amy both complain to Penny about their relationship problems and Penny assures them that she will have Leonard set the guys straight. Instead of working through their issues, the guys use lasers to shoot balloons out of the air.

Episode 6: The Romance Resonance
Wolowitz recruits the gang to help him perform a special song he wrote, called, "If I Didn't Have You (Bernadette's Song)," to commemorate the anniversary of his first date with Bernadette. His announcement is so romantic it prompts Leonard to mention to Penny that she doesn’t really do romantic stuff for him (which is different from sex stuff). She’s disappointed with herself when she’s unable to come up with any romantic ideas and apologizes to him by showing him her mementoes of all the romantic things he’s done for her. Leonard finds it very romantic that she’s kept all those things. Later, Wolowitz’s plan goes awry when Bernadette ends up being put in quarantine for the night, but he ends up serenading her in quarantine anyway. Meanwhile, Sheldon discovers a way to synthesize a new element, which is a tremendous scientific accomplishment. Sheldon is thrilled but when he and Amy are in the process of cataloguing all the implements he used to make his discovery to send to the Smithsonian, he realizes he miscalculated in his work and stumbled upon the discovery by accident. Sheldon feels like a total fraud because even though he got the right result, he didn’t get there the right way, and he eschews all of the positive praise that comes his way for the discovery.

Episode 7: The Proton Displacement
Sheldon gets offended when Arthur Jefferies (Professor Proton) asks Leonard to read his latest scientific paper. After being repeatedly hounded by Sheldon, Arthur finally relents and asks Sheldon to read the paper, only to learn that Sheldon hacked into Leonard's email and read it already. Meanwhile, Koothrappali joins Penny, Amy, and Bernadette for a girls night where they make homemade jewelry. He gets upset when Wolowitz comes and steals his thunder by teaching the girls how to use his engineering tools to make even fancier pieces of jewelry.

Episode 8: The Itchy Brain Stimulation
Sheldon discovers a DVD that Leonard was supposed to return to the video store seven years ago. Leonard tries to talk Sheldon down and tells him to not freak out, but Sheldon explains when things like this happen it’s like an itch in his brain he can’t scratch. As penance, Leonard agrees to wear an itchy sweater until he rectifies the situation, thinking it's an easy fix and he can prove Sheldon wrong. Unfortunately, the video store has long since closed and the owner has passed away, and the itching gets unbearable for Leonard. Sheldon finally confesses to Leonard that when he learned the DVD hadn’t been returned, he paid for it and waited for the day that he could use it as a "teaching moment” for Leonard. Meanwhile, Penny sees Lucy at the Cheesecake Factory and mentions to her that Raj was really upset when Lucy broke up with him. Raj gets angry with Penny for making him look bad, but when Lucy emails him and asks him out for coffee, he quickly changes his tune. Lucy tells him that she is seeing someone else now, so Penny offers to set him up with one of her work friends, but that date goes terribly.

Episode 9: The Thanksgiving Decoupling
Wolowitz invites the gang over to his mother's house for Thanksgiving because his father-in-law, Mr. Rostenkowski, is coming and he's looking for a buffer. Sheldon resists because he likes routine of Leonard cooking a bad turkey every year, but he eventually relents and ends up bonding with Mr. Rostenkowski over beers and a football game. Meanwhile, Leonard and Penny get into an argument after she shares a story about a Thanksgiving she spent in Las Vegas with her old boyfriend Zack, whom she accidentally married there without realizing it. Chaos ensues when Zack arrives at the dinner to sign annulment papers, and Mrs. Wolowitz is too sick to cook.

Episode 10: The Discovery Dissipation
Sheldon goes on Ira Flatow's 'Science Friday' show on NPR to talk about his accidental discovery of a new element, but continues to convey his bad attitude for the undue recognition he's received. To help, Amy decides to bring in Wil Wheaton to talk to Sheldon about coping with notoriety. Wil tells Sheldon how difficult his life was because of all the negative feedback and backlash he got for being on Star Trek and how he got past it. Leonard also tries to help Sheldon by proving that his theory was wrong, which results in Sheldon getting upset with him and longing for the spotlight again. Meanwhile, Koothrapalli stays with Bernadette and Wolowitz, but he ends up getting kicked out because he's the perfect houseguest and makes both Wolowitz and Bernadette feel inadequate about their contribution to the household.

Episode 11: The Cooper Extraction
Sheldon has to go back to Texas when he learns that his sister is going into labor, leaving the rest of the gang to prepare for Christmas without him. As they gather to begin decorating the apartment tree, they begin to wonder what their lives would have been like if none of them had ever met Sheldon, imagining various scenarios from that alternate reality. Wolowitz postulates that he'd still be living with his mother, though he'd have killed her long ago, ala Psycho. Bernadette argues that she probably never would have married Wolowitz, given that he and Koothrappali can act like a gay couple from time to time. Amy states that Penny wouldn't have been able to resist Sheldon's raw sexuality and would've tried to sleep with him long ago. Throughout the various fantasy sequences, Sheldon calls them via Facetime to complain about the messy, disgusting delivery process, but Amy convinces him to stay the course and be there for his sister. The gang then comments on how much of a positive impact Amy has had on Sheldon, and Leonard proves it to her by showing her that Sheldon made a picture of her his desktop screensaver.

Episode 12: The Hesitation Ramification
Penny gets excited when she learns that she’s been cast in an upcoming episode of NCIS and plans a big viewing part for the gang to watch her episode. However, when the episode airs, she learns that her scene was cut and gets very depressed. Leonard tries to cheer her up, but she counters that she’s been trying to work as an actress for ten years and has nothing to show for it. When Leonard reminds her that she has him and their relationship, she proposes to him on the spot, acknowledging that he’s the one good thing in her life she doesn’t want to lose. Leonard knows the proposal is coming out of desperation and hesitates to say yes, so Penny rescinds her offer and leaves things very cold between them. Meanwhile, Koothrappali and Stuart try to strike up conversations with strangers at the local mall, and Sheldon endeavors to become a comedic genius by studying all forms of comedy for a few days.

Episode 13: The Occupation Recalibration
Leonard is relieved to learn that Penny doesn’t want to break up with him after he rejected her marriage proposal, but is surprised to hear that she quit her job at the Cheesecake Factory to pursue acting full time. She gets upset with him when he seems less than enthused about the idea, but receives unlikely support from Sheldon, who spends the day with her after being forced to use his vacation days by the university. Sheldon believes that the only way to truly succeed at something is to devote one hundred percent of one’s efforts toward a goal, and Penny desperately needed to hear that. Meanwhile, Wolowitz and Koothrappali try to help Amy fend off the romantic advances of her awkward coworker, and Stuart accompanies Bernadette to a rival comic shop to find a replacement comic book for Wolowitz after she accidentally destroyed his copy.

Episode 14: The Convention Conundrum
When the guys are unable to get tickets to this year's Comic-Con, Leonard, Wolowitz, and Koothrappali decide to buy scalped tickets from a stranger, but they worry about getting caught with fake tickets and arrested. Sheldon refuses to buy scalped tickets and instead opts to start his own convention, leading him to search for a suitable star to appear on one of the panel discussions. After a lot of rejections, Sheldon tracks down James Earl Jones at his favorite sushi restaurant in LA and miraculously winds up bonding with the iconic actor. The two share a night full of adventures and James invites Sheldon and the guys to attend Comic-Con as his personal guests. Meanwhile, the ladies try to have fun like mature adults by going to a new tea place at a popular local hotel, but they all wind up feeling that growing up is overrated.

Episode 15: The Locomotive Manipulation
Amy convinces Sheldon to take a romantic trip to Napa for Valentine’s Day aboard a classic train, and Wolowitz and Bernadette go with them. It seems like a perfect plan until Sheldon meets another passenger on the train, Eric, who is an equally passionate train enthusiast, and focuses most of his attention there. Amy confronts him about ruining their romantic night, and Sheldon launches into a tirade about romantic gestures. Sheldon kisses Amy out of spite, but in the kiss, we see him soften and enjoy it. Meanwhile, Leonard and Penny are home alone for Valentine’s Day, so they volunteer to watch Cinnamon for Koothrappali, who has booked some alone time up at the big telescope. Cinnamon manages to eat a box of chocolates while Leonard and Penny aren’t looking and they have to take her to the vet. Koothrappali rushes back to be with Cinnamon and winds up finding a little romantic connection with the vet, Yvette.

Episode 16: The Table Polarization
Leonard decides to get a dining table for the apartment, but Sheldon doesn't like the notion of this big change and resists at every turn. Through some clever manipulation, Penny and Amy convince their boyfriends to come to an agreement and they keep the table -- though the gang still decides to eat around the couch and on the floor anyway. Wolowitz is asked to go back to the space station sometime in the near future and he leaps at the opportunity. Bernadette and Koothrappali try to gently remind him that he was an absolute mess up there and it terrified him, but Wolowitz won't hear it. They are forced to stage an intervention, bringing in Bernadette's father and Mike Massimino via Skype later to tell Wolowitz that he has the wrong stuff. Wolowitz eventually comes around, but now he has to figure out how to get out of the mission while saving face. Ultimately, he goes to a doctor and has his blood pressure taken while on the phone with his mother, and he's declared medically unfit to go back to space.

Meanwhile, Penny’s car breaks down and she fears she’ll have to go back to waitressing, so Leonard surprises her and buys her a used car so she can still go to auditions. Koothrappali also gets upset with Amy when she tries to help him woo a woman on an online dating site and she winds up having more in common with her than he does.

Episode 18: The Mommy Observation
Sheldon and Wolowitz are still in Houston and Sheldon decides to surprise his mother with a visit. When they get there, Sheldon looks in the window, sees his mother having sex, and leaves before she sees him. Wolowitz convinces Sheldon to go back and talk to his mother but Sheldon only ends up insulting her. Wolowitz then tells Sheldon how he faced a similar situation with his mother in the past, and that Sheldon shouldn’t stand in the way of his mother’s happiness. In the end, Sheldon goes to talk to his mother and ends up giving her a lecture about safe sex. Meanwhile, the group is back at the apartment eating Thai food when Stuart collapses and seems to die. It turns out to be the set up for another one of Koothrappali’s murder mystery games that everyone dislikes.
